Covid-19 will save the Black Rhino, Tigers and Pangolins from extinction as China has just banned the sale and consumption of wild animals. Unlike earlier bans this one looks permanent as Covid-19 and the Wuhan wet market has caused too much economic damage to China. (In passing, it also puts another nail into the bio-weapon theory)
All we need now is to export covid-19 to Africa which will hopefully give rise to similar restrictions on Bush Meat. If this happens, David Attenborough and the WWF will become redundant.🙄
How do you know whether you have Winter Flu or SARS-Covid-19?
An analysis of 50000+ confirmed Covid cases gives the answer: link
91% of patients had a fever
71% had a cough
41% Had muscle aches or weaknesses
15% Had acute difficulty with breathing
A CT scan is the clincher as 96% had an abnormal scan
Bottom line, if you have a cough and fever then SARS-Covid-19 is the probable cause. (Make sure that you have a thermometer in the house)
Of the Covid cases, 21% were severe enough to require hospitalisation, and 5% of all cases died. Put differently, roughly 25% of people hospitalised subsequently died.
I guess one can also infer from the statistics that roughly 10% of people are symptomless Covid-19 carriers!
I think it petered out once it had infected >60% of the population. If anything that flu was a lot worse as it preferentially killed the under 25s by over-stimulating their immune system, old pharts only had a mild illness by comparison. Covid-19 knocks off the other end and preferentially kills old pharts.
The WHO site has all that you will need, just go to the latest report.
Just to add to the inanity of our Government’s head in the nether end, Imperial College London have just stated in their latest Report 6 that two thirds of exported Covid-19 cases have been undetected and will have resulted in multiple chains of infection that are still waiting to be identified.
Given the <28 day incubation period of covid-19 we still have a couple of weeks to go before we can say that we are over that particular hurdle, or looking on the pessimistic side we could get a huge rash of infections within the next few weeks.
The Beeb ‘medical/health’ correspondent is slowly unwinding his position as a Government shill, but we are still in the ‘lets not frighten the horses’ phase and he continues to downplay the risks.
I maintain that there is a lot this inept Government could do/have done to reduce risks e.g. gel stations, but it still seems to have its head up its nether end and is denying the reality of the situation.
In days gone by, during previous threats to the Nation, the Government of the day convened meetings of affected industries to ensure that they had a comprehensive Plan B. For example the major Supermarkets would have been asked to examine their distribution systems to ensure that they had backup plans if a depot was put into quarantine, and if that happened that Industry sharing plans could be put into effect without incurring the wrath of the Monopolies Commission. I fear that this inept bunch of *ankers have done nothing as that involves too much imagination, detail and information sharing.
As Bob said — We are doomed!
Although local officials have a well established track record of lying to Central Government, I think the fate of the Wuhan mayor has probably brought a strong measure of honesty to this particular party. I think that those unfamiliar with China are unaware of the barriers that the Chinese can and do place on freedom of movement, and the relative ease with which they can isolate regions, towns and even villages. I think we may be seeing localised burnout and that is slowing the overall rate of infection.
This article may shed a little light on how the Chinese ‘hukou’ system works when things were ‘easy’. I can well remember the difficulties my translator had to deal with to accompany me from Beijing to Urumqui in the far west despite that being a semi-official visit. Twenty years ago the Chinese could make travel ‘easy’ as they did into Shenzhen (the Silicon Valley of China), or extremely difficult as they did for visits into or out of sensitive Uyghur areas such as Urumqui. They could switch areas on and off seemingly at will.
Details of the scheme were apparently only released to the ‘Conservative’ press i.e. The Mail and Telegraph. (No others appeared on a Google search) Now I REALLY start to wonder if an ultra-right Cummings doctrine has been secretly put into force!
Joking aside, something is required. The latest report from China is that the covid-19 incubation period can be up to 27 days. This implies a whole lot of extra spreaders could already have been released in the UK following their self isolation, and makes any containment close to impossible. link
As far as I can see, the BBC have not even indexed anything similar for the (quite useless) BBC web site search. The article ‘never existed’!
I’m afraid Mushroom Matt Hancock still has his head up his nether-end and is failing to keep the UK public informed. It looks rather like he is trying to contain panic while he and his mates stock up their larders and med cabinets. There would have been much better low key measures to buy time and get the public used to an emergency situation.
Seriously, I think the Government’s strategy of denial is foolish. It would have been better to inform the public early, deal with any low level panic, and let them get bored, rather than suddenly announcing that similar measures to Italy will be sprung on a totally unprepared public.
Good luck Dan, just don’t pig-out too much on the local delicacy of Jammie Dodgers!
If you use DSL etc., then you normally MUST use their in-built browser with all its many quirks and lack of extensions.
If you are up to dismantling and fiddling around then old laptop screens can sometimes be repurposed as ‘magic mirrors‘ for a Raspberry Pi. If you have a local school who have a strong STEM group then they may appreciate a donation. Unfortunately this route depends far too much on having a young enthusiast teacher.
One reported problem is that the ‘all-clear’ test appears to be inaccurate.
People have been given the all-clear for as many as five tests only for the sixth to test positive. The reasons were unclear, one can only surmise that perhaps the method used to incubate/amplify the samples does not work very well for this particular virus. (doesn’t bode well for those released from quarantine, or those deemed as recovered from covid-19)
Thanks to May’s stupidity we probably have insufficient police to cope with things without a public insurrection. (for example many crimes are not investigated because of resources). However if there is a threatened break-down of Law & Order the Government always has the option of declaring martial law zones. I personally think that such an event is extremely small.
Cutting back to the huge leap in cases in Korea, most are mental health patients and probably in locked wards. It is believed that one or two nurses are super-spreaders.
Actually SARS cases were in the main due to super-spreaders, and one hope is that covid-19 is similar as this would make containment easier.
Unless the dredging takes the water straight out to sea it just passes the problem down the line. The better solutions are water meadows and flood plains in the higher reaches of water courses. Not only do they reduce the rate of run-off they provide wild life (farmer free) sanctuaries for pollinating insects.
In my youth the Somerset levels were just flood plains. They were great places for elvers and frogs.
…. Crikey, this virus is so damned infectious.
That being so, why haven’t we seen the same infection rates in this country? Many of those with covid-19 were wandering around in an infectious state for a number of days.
About the only real difference I know of between Asians and Caucasian/Africans is a much higher percentage of Blood Group B. The other thing is that public toilets in Asia are extremely dire places to visit.
Or dare I say it: the truth is once more being kept from us!
If you do buy Magnesium avoid the very cheap and virtually useless Magnesium Oxide tablets. This even has a low Mg++ bio-availability in healthy young people, the reduced gut function of old gits means that such pills are hardly absorbed at all.
By analogy to SARS and MERS the National Geographic article implied that the gut may play an important role in spreading the virus through the body. It will probably pay to minimise gut transit time by boosting fibre intake, +1 for prunes!
Maybe the Government knows what it is doing, but unfortunately it looks like they have their heads up their nether ends. I would be much happier if they produced an action plan of steps they will take when the brown stuff hits the fan in the UK.
A simple measure that I would like to see introduced asap by the Government is a requirement that certain locations install alcohol gel hand-wash facilities. I would choose the places where people tend to congregate e.g. Food Supermarkets, Pharmacies, General Stores e.g. Wilko. I’d add sporting venues except I can see them being closed pretty soon. The BBC Pandemic program showed that extra hand washing halved the rate of spread for diseases and smeared out hospital peaks to a manageable level..
However we have the far right views of Dominic Cummings and his ilk in charge so all non-productive groups are instead doomed!
The National Geographic has a blow by blow picture of the way SARS-Covid-19 can attack every organ in your body. A very scary breakdown. Even more scary is their contention that covid-19 kills 23 times more infected people than does flu. It puts the UK media/Government shills in their place, but unfortunately our media seems to be under a D notice!
Lots of human traffic official or otherwise between Iran and Qatar. I’ll take a large bet that there will be no reported cases in Qatar.
I managed to obtain some Avloclor, however not without some more discussion with the pharmacist. The first 30secs smelt like a cya as he restated that my proposed use was quite unsanctioned and against his specific recommendations. He then asked under what circumstances I would take the medication. I think this was of interest to him rather than an interrogation before handing it over.
I told him that before I took any, the local NHS would have to be in a melt-down, I would then take it at the prescribed medication rate, but only after three days of dry coughs plus chills, followed by the onset of a fever. All the time continuing to bug NHS 111.
