Bad news from the US.
a) The WHO have at last recognised the Chinese findings that Covid-19 can be spread by aerosols, and that indoors they can travel 30 feet or more. We can expect to see mandatory face coverings in all public places being introduced in the near future.
b) The US military have found that the virus remains viable for up to four days on the skin of pets. I guess that means animals will need to ‘social distance’ from other humans, and that taking them into indoor public spaces is not a good idea
My new covid-19 street image is on my avatar. A cross between Telly Savalas (too long without a barber) and a permanently grinning Austin Powers face mask. Adults smile and laugh – small children run away screaming!
I had a stroll around my local town today – the Welsh Chief Constable who said booze and social distancing do not mix was spot on. Social distancing was out of the window and the cocktail-party effect was in full swing with people yelling in one another’s face. Luckily it probably does not matter here as we have had no new cases for the best part of a month.
He probably qualifies for the scheme, but money is the big issue. Apple do not normally dole out these things for free and Apple kit has a high entry fee, He also likes kit that he can use for both business and pleasure.
What he really wants to see is X-code on ARM, as he says that would enable him to rationalise his hardware and eliminate the need for a Mac Pro. (I have no idea how or why, this is the case, he just volunteered that particular tid-bit to me!). I guess it has something to do with his using the Apple platform for various AI-based apps as that is the area he is now pursuing.
Unlike the PfI Sector there are no obscene tax free profits (link). I gather that Covid has resulted in a loss of >25% of their income through deaths, higher ‘covid-secure’ costs, and a public reluctance to sentence granny to death by sticking her in a care home! I suspect a lot of care companies would welcome a government buy-out.
If interested search on line for “(Your County) COVID-19 Local Outbreak Control Plan”. Each English county has developed a plan based on a master document from Public Health England. You should be able to find quite a lot of interesting stats on your area.
Seriously thinking about taking a break in South West Ireland, never been there and the scenery looks stunning. The beer and the whiskey will compensate if the weather is carp.
Good luck Bob!
Your brew reminds me of the days that my wife and I were in a Village Home Brewing Club. About every three months one of the group would organise a BYO booze, bread and cheese party. Somehow bottles of raisin wine (abt 12% alcohol) became confused with bottles of brown beer and I do not ever remember getting quite so legless.
Check out if any such group exist in your neighbourhood, there is nothing better than learning brewing from those who have made all the mistakes before. (I’d guess a lack of sterilization of all your brewing equipment may have caused a problem, bad hops is another – always buy the best hops you can find)
I think the young people of HK did not have enough sense to stop when they were winning, when they did not do so the outcome was inevitable.
We are where we are. I agree with Dave, I’d be surprised if half a million came as they will have zero access to anything without paying for it until they gain citizenship. They do however have something we have lost, a very strong work ethic and a well educated technically literate population – they very rapidly rise to the top of any society in which they settle. (I’ve seen just that happen in Australasia and Canada.) I’d see it as our gain and China’s loss.
BoJo said we would have a ‘world beating’ Covid Tracker system. I’m not sure that description applies to the cobbled-together system that Dido Harding has hatched. It now emerges that we may need help from Germany to even get the Google/Apple system working!
Unfortunately Lee, this thread has by no means run its course.
The Guardian uses publicly available data to show that our Government of ditherers is failing to take decisive lock-down action on a number of areas that appear to be where Leicester was two weeks ago:
“The Medway in Kent, the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham and Ealing in London, and Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland saw a rise in infections in the week to 25 June, according to official data. Other areas seeing higher rates included Bedford, Barnsley and Flintshire.
It is unsurprising that the Government no longer wants to have a daily Corona Briefing to expose its failings.”
According to this Logitech link there is a problem with MacOS Mojave. Switch it on and off again seems to be the cure, but not very helpful for KVM units!
Apparently this ‘Government’ of incompetents and ditherers have known they had some sort of problem in Leicester for two weeks, yet have sat on their hands and even now do not know what they are doing!
“Mr Hancock said … exact details of which wards in Leicestershire are included in the new lockdown measures will be published “imminently”.
I’ll bet Leicester inhabitants are gutted to find out that the rest of England will be partying on Saturday and they have to face two more weeks of lock-down. I hope that the Government and authorities have the sense to realise that they may need to stop people trying to hop over to Rutland etc. as they could cause the dreaded second wave.
Unfortunately we & the EU are playing the loser is ‘who blinks first’ game. Not an ideal way to conduct negotiations and not a good basis for long term relationships. I suspect that nothing with move on Brexit before the next Covid wave in October.
Gyms I understand too much heavy breathing results in aerosoled particles – same logic applies to singing in churches which is also banned.
I would have thought that swimming pool changing rooms have very similar problems to pubs/restaurants with the additional requirement for clothing/wet towel bags. In my view these are problems capable of moderately easy solutions albeit at higher cost for the clean-up crew.
It was and is to be expected. Although the Government had to publicise the rules for relaxing the lock-down they made no attempt to explain why the public had to wait 10 days or so (expected decline in infected people), they also made no attempt to show what could happen in terms of increased numbers of cases if people did not wait.
It was crazy to keep swimming pools locked (especially the lidos). From what I can see there is zero science behind it, as all scientists agree that the virus does not survive in chlorinated water. Without some way of cooling off it was all very predictable.
As the link says Bob, most equipment will work, it is only if things go wrong that your ISP may refuse to give you support if your equipment has caused the problem. I think I would be tempted to drop a note to TPLink UK and ask them if your Archer V400 has received BT Openreach MCT approval, and if not, will they help in the event that your ISP jibes at the use of unapproved equipment? (I posted the question on Amazon whether the product has BT Openreach MCT approval).
