John, I’ll bet that most of the Sony wheel-spinning is due to its internal spyware making its own connection ‘home’. Link

Hurrah the Government is playing Poo-Sticks. link

All joking aside, I view this as a HUGE step forward as it will address the problem of the 80% asymptomatic people who have caught Covid and are potential sources of infection. If done at every sewage farm it could test 5000+ people at a time on a daily basis – this will be far more effective than Talk-Talk Harding’s efforts!

What is however worrying is that it has taken 5 months to get to this stage following the Chinese indicating that it was a plausible infection route. We must become less risk averse if we are to get on top of this virus in a timely fashion.

I doubt if it fits your needs but there is a vm guest for x86.

            Link

[edit] The isos can of course be used in both virtualbox and vmware. I’d be interested how you plan to use such an emulator. I have a copy installed, but to be honest I looked at it, shrugged my shoulders and forgot about it.

Have you used Task Manager to see what is consuming all the memory? It just may be an over-zealous AV software checking out every changed bit. Kaspersky went wild on my main mobo following 2004 and was eating 60% all on its own, it is now back down to around 4%.

If you live near the Rifle Brigade training school they may be playing around with GPS spoofing.  A couple of years ago my car GPS suddenly went loopy and inverted all the directions near a Fleet Air Arm base in Cornwall. I was told by the people I was visiting that this often occurred, and they blamed the FAA.

While what you wrote is completely accurate, I think that you would be hard-pressed to find a server that is Linux boiler-plated throughout. If you trawl the web every result that I found seems to start off with assuming hardware containing a M$ UEFI which you then modify to get your own set of Linux keys. Even Redhat goes that way, though it does use PXE boot servers too (very remotely like a Windows PE setup).

Good news for mask wearers, it isn’t just a selfless act it . New research shows that even simple masks also protect the wearer to a degree by reducing the number of virus particles they inhale, and apparently reduces any disease severity as a result.

Prominent CCTV signs are a useful addition in persuading the burglar to go elsewhere. You need one anyway if you accidentally capture images of people walking past (see link).

Setting up a PTZ auto-tracking camera is the bees-knees as it is always a bit disconcerting to have a piece of equipment ‘look’ at you. (Warning – the tracking motors only last a couple of years on cheaper systems.)

You may want to stick a dummy camera around the back somewhere. Unfortunately a hoodie+mask makes any identification fairly moot. A pea-shingle path is something burglars hate, as they do anti=climb wall spikes  or trellis on your fence panels.

As you know, the art is not to catch intruders but to persuade them that there may be softer targets elsewhere.

                              Not from me.

The only area that was questionable is a system slowdown from cache clearing, but most experts now say leave cache things to Windows.

You did not mention it, but Windows Runtime Broker used to be the cause of program hangs when it gave unnecessary priority to Windows Experience things. That can now generally be fixed by setting appropriate  program priorities.

Elizabeth Chadwick wrote a historical novel ‘The Greatest Knight’ . There are a few non-fiction bios that have a similar title.

One for Bob, when he gets out of hospital. It sounded as though he has already done the fasting bit.

Many like the ones that PM referenced were built in the independent nation of Monmouthshire (note, most definitely not Gwent!) by the Marcher lords. The most famous was William Marshal. He was the Beckham of his day who made his loot in tournaments and wenching, robbing and pillaging in Northern France. His life and times would make a TV series to rival Poldark!

Wheels, until Lee fixes it, other people have found that switching to text mode (button top right) enables you to submit but you lose some options, so start in Visual then switch to text.

It does and sometimes bad-actors such as Chrome have been known to  eat it by the Gb. Kludgy ways of autocleaning do however  exist. see link
