It turns out I needed to change the minimum Samba protocol to v1

That does not sound very sensible of Sonos. Samba v1 is from the days of DOS and is now known to be highly insecure.

[edit] You can add plugins to Paint.net.

Paint.Net is also a good program for quick and dirty adjustments. Its auto-adjust is good, but for this photo I found the levels and saturation adjustments did the best job of bringing the image closer to the high-key image of my memory.

Thanks for the adjustment Dave.  Maybe I need a better phone with HDR, however shooting into the sun while using an LCD screen is a huge guessing game.

Sometimes mobile cameras are too clever by half. The attached reduced-res image of Telscombe Cliffs near Newhaven was taken today on my old WileyFox Swift. As you can guess the mark-one eyeball image was completely burnt out by the sun and the sea-cliff-sky-clouds contrast was stunning. Unfortunately the camera was too clever in its settings and adjusted it all down to a ‘nice snap’!

The Ryzen 3000 has a clever bit of code optimisation (link). Unfortunately I just cannot help thinking that this may be a weak link open to exploit just like the Intel CSME.

As we found during the Falklands War, container ships make excellent low cost carriers! They would make even better launch platforms for drones and tethered zeppelins (stealthy command and control radar blimps). Covid is going to mean a lot of these will be surplus to requirements.

Just wish I could think of a similar repurposing for all the floating petri dishes (cruise ships) moored off the Dorset coast!

Time will tell if I can put up with the varifocals

Until you get used to them be careful walking down stairs, and things like reaching for a glass of water on a table.Varifocals can totally screw up your ability to judge distances accurately!

The danger area is where an object is somewhere on the margin between the ‘distance’ and ‘close’ parts of the lens. You need to build in muscle memory to move your head down/up in such circumstances rather than just moving your eyes.

My #1 son brain-washed me into thinking that Macs were not bad bang/buck values. However even he is now questioning this attitude. I think it may be possible that the $2 Trillion valuation has feet of clay. It isn’t surprising that Trump has attacked Apple phone’s Chinese competitors!

They need the mail header as part of the report.  Easiest way is normally to forward the email but make sure you are using a setting that allows the mail header to be seen otherwise it may get stripped. (view headers all in TBird)

I think Amazon  UK may be interested in the existence of an Amaozonservices site. M$ used to have a lot of problems with similar looking sites and leant very heavily on Nominet etc. to take them down and delve down to the actual site owners.

Of course that may be a totally fictitious name, you would need to look at the full header info to delve into it properly.

Programmers seem to have it in for photographers as Adobe Lightroom has also wiped photos with no way of recovering them. link

Run the cables while you have the spare time and good weather.  Cabling always seems to take me 30% longer than I estimate.

“I suspect they worked on live data. In any event they had no OFFSITE backups which would have negated any Ransomware attack too.”

Corrected – the so-called Maze interview suggests that they had sufficient time to locate and infect all on-site networked backups.

I’m not in favour of a military coup, but at least the military are trained in how to take and make both strategic and the corresponding tactical decisions. The bunch of ‘ankers we have in Government could not organise a proverbial booze-up in a brewery. They would all probably get lost in Barnard Castle en-route!

Perhaps someone should point them at the simplest way of making reasonable decisions that weigh up all the risks. i.e. Bow-Tie decision making for Klutz.

                                        ‘Spiders!’

I have all my external kit in the garage. As you say it is generally a nice cool place that does not freeze. The only downside I have discovered is that spiders quickly populate the rats nest of Ethernet cables!

About the only fix I have found is an ostrich feather duster. (the vac is difficult to move around in the space I have)

I agree with Dave, a cabled link to your wifi router may be required as there are often too many walls blocking signals.

Even worse – useless Dido Harding is rumoured to be taking over a reorganised Public Health England in an effort by shambling Mushroom Matt to shift all the blame for Government mismanagement onto PHE.

[edit] re levelling up, Private Eye had a cruel cartoon that showed all the Covid as initially in the South but levelling up shifted it to the North.

There is only one word for the way this Government has handled the Covid Crisis — Shambolic!

In addition to unnecessarily privatising parts of PHE’s track and trace system under Dido Harding’s incompetent misrule, and even forgetting all the U-turns and confusion over quarantines, and Dominic Cummings gutless destruction of confidence, you can now add a total stuff-up of the examination process for A-levels leaving thousands of school leavers in complete limbo.

On this track record, Brexit will dismember and totally destroy the UK.
