Dave ask your cardiologist about the risks of peripheral neuropathy if cholesterol levels are aggressively lowered for a protracted period. I had to eliminate statin use due to the problems it caused with loss of feeling/pain at the extremities, it took some years to revert back to normal.

Yeah, I got me Metro Exodus from CD keys bargain bucket. Terrific game. Its Metro meets Farcry 2.

Although great as a game, I found the ‘greyness’ of it extremely depressing, and longed for some colour to appear. As a result I have put it aside for now, hoping that eventually we will get out of the current depressing rounds of a half-baked Brexit(definitely NOT ‘oven ready’ ), and Covid.

          You cheated by talking ray-tracing.

As this PC Gamer screen clip shows it is very moot whether ray tracing adds enough over raster tech, to justify its use. 4K and raster is fairly workable, 4K and ray tracing is as you say nearly impossible today.

The new M$ flight, aerial dogfight and ‘sniping’ games may be exceptions. i.e something where the extra resolution gives the player an edge. What I find I do like is the extra colour gamut of 4K.

One possibility is Windows, if it thinks it is short of space it will delete files without asking. I suspect that if it has been allowed to ‘see’ network files it will do the same:

I feel sorry for Jon Roper:

“Jon Roper, the 22-year-old graduate who was in charge of Celotex’s effort to break into the market for tall buildings, told the inquiry of his regret that he acted so dishonestly, but said he had no one to turn to, with the firm’s senior management united behind this course of action.”

A 22 year old Marketer, is often the naive, inexperienced fall-guy under pressure to perform by a management only too willing to disown his actions after the event. I hope for his sake that some grizzled old police interrogator gets to work on his management.

English forumites may be able to log into a whole lot of additional info (assuming your county authority allows). Try a search on the terms (your) local authority+public health+covid+weekly+dashboard. I have no idea if this will work in the devolved nations. Wales in particular seems to hate giving the power of information to the people. They were obviously well trained by Mushroom Matt!

[edit] btw my local authority uses a nettify.app link for some unknown reason!

Wales goes into prohibition but people are allowed to cross from Wales into England! The publicans of the ‘Cross Keys’ and ‘Live and Let Live’ pubs in Tutshill must be stocking up with scotch eggs and rubbing their hands in glee as Monmouthshire drinkers look for solace by walking into England.

The Cross Keys closed some 10+ ? years back – it is now residential accommodation, and The Live & Let Live opposite Mopla Road is now a cafe/bar called Toast http://www.toast-tutshill.co.uk/ – not a drinkers place “Serving craft beers, ciders & wine together with simple honest food.”

Pub closures are always a great shame, but from memory that leaves many Gloucestershire  miles without a pub! :negative:

Looks to me that the Welsh Assembly have really cocked things up with a useless two week lockdown followed by more economic pain.

Don’t you just disable legacy mode prior to setting up your boot SSD? My Asus ROG mobo had more documentation than I needed (now a bit dated but should still work with modifications). link, so I suggest that you search the web pages for your mobo manufacturer.

I agree it isn’t as ‘green’ as many think, but electric cars have one huge advantage. They totally diminish the dangerous power that the Middle East had over the political thinking of the West, and it shafts the Scots Nats at the same time! :yahoo:

Apparently that is not the issue. Gigabyte say NO as one M2 is connected directly to the CPU and corruption is thought to be an issue. However for a price it is a problem that can be solved by installing a Hypercard link.

I was true to my comments and installed the raspt Ubuntu Mate (gorilla version) via the Ubuntu site. I’m really pleased with it – a very sharp screen themed in black with nearly all the software I need.It also runs a little cooler than the Ubuntu core version and looks much nicer! B-)

Btw avoid the btrfs version you will find on the web, I just could not get that to work with an SSD (ok for sd only use).

The X570 chipset supports multiple M2 cards for the Ryzen 3000. The ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus ATX Motherboard is one I’d have in mind, but I’ll confess that I have no idea if the M2s could go in a Raid zero.

I’m toying with the idea of using a mobo that allows two M2 SSDs to run simultaneously using different lanes. A Raid 0 of these could really fly! (I’m always looking to improve i/o for VM use)

Mate is lighter than Core, and 32bit is lighter than 64bit.

Ubuntu Core 64bit passed a 24 hour stress test of playing all my music albums while running the xscreensaver Webcollage (the latter was continually accessing the web and downloading small random images).

should have mentioned that I’m using a 2Gb Pi4. Ubuntu is quite demanding so a 4+Gb Pi4 would be better

For reasons I really do not understand VLC was unstable, and made it a pain to select tracks for a playlist. I wasted a couple of hours trying to fix, then came to the conclusion that maybe the latest release of vlc32 under raspi was buggy. I gave up at that point and installed Ubuntu64 for the Pi4. That was an inspired decision everything is now much smoother and stable. Bluetooth paired and played on a speaker like a dream (it is often a pain under raspi)

For those wanting to repeat the experience, I downloaded Ubuntu from the official Pi site, used 7zip to unzip it then used Win32DiskImager to burn it directly to a 256Gb SSD. If instead you want to stick it on an SDCard, then the MINIMUM size to use is 16Gb (preferably 32Gb). If you go smaller it will not fit, and 16Gb does not allow you sufficient space to run apt-upgrade!

In addition to all the woes of Covid, Brexit and foreign travel, the EU/UK regulators have accepted the return of the very dodgy 737Max next year. If you want to avoid this known killer then you will need to research the airlines on this list. Ryanair looks a good one to avoid!
