      Like your verse John!

According to news reports the probability of civil unrest is being taken seriously with the paramilitary National Guard being placed on alert in Washington, and police warnings that they will arrest shoot anyone carrying a gun within the DC precinct.

My somewhat politically looney US friend is still maintaining that this is all a Chinese Communist plot against the US including inciting the NYSE (via Biden and his ‘globalist elites’)  to disobey Trump’s order for them to delist Chinese Telcos. I’m afraid that all his emails are now full of conspiracy theories gone mad. However, as an anti-gun person  he is probably one of the more moderate ones. As a result, I think the authorities are wise to take the threat of civil unrest in Washington very seriously.

Bleeding Cold – I have not been tempted to do more than poke my nose out of the door. However, as we stocked up for Christmas and the possible chaos of a hard Brexit we have not needed to leave the house. Thank heavens for an exercise bike!

Others have given you excellent advice. I always view the email headers for anything involving money or similar. You will often find in cases of scams that the original sender is totally different from what it first appears to be.

If it does turn out to be a scam, report it to PayPal. They seem to take such scams seriously unlike many Banks and ISPs.

This Reuter’s report on the Oxford vaccine helps explain why it is taking so long to get approval. Although it still reads like a cockup by Oxford University, we probably need to wait for the Regulator’s verdict.

Grandparents will know what a bitter-sweet day it was yesterday. If you were inclined to obey the rules, adult children with kids would have to choose between grandparents and grandparents with more than one set of grandchildren would have to choose which one if any to visit. What a crap-up; more likely to result in acrimony and tears than a happy day. 😥

It looks as though Germany’s success in handling the first wave of the virus may have been a curse rather than a blessing now that they are struggling under the Second Wave.

According to Der Spiegel there are real concerns that they will not get enough vaccine and it will arrive too late in the Covid season:

“The EU and Berlin have insisted there will be sufficient vaccine available, but delays in signing purchasing contracts mean that the elixir will arrive late and there might not be enough. The EU even declined an option that would have allowed for the purchase of hundreds of millions of extra doses.

The EU even declined an option that would have allowed for the purchase of hundreds of millions of extra doses. ”

“Initially, Germany’s health minister has announced, there will probably only be 400,000 vaccine doses for Germany, with another 11 to 13 million to follow by March — a fraction of the amount the Americans (and British) are getting.”

20/20 is the gold standard for vision, and the year 2020 was the gold standard for a crappy year. Here’s hoping that 2021 makes a better standard and one we will be able to look back as being a much happier year. Unfortunately it will be a very different, not so united, UK full of uncertainty for the young in particular. At least it appears that Bojo hasn’t totally crapped up relations with the world’s biggest economic bloc which must be a relief to many. All we need now is for the Oxford vaccine to get rapid approval and maybe we can get back to some sort of normality well before Easter.

On a brighter note, Christmas will still be one for the kids to enjoy with their parents, and technology does at least allow the rest of the extended family to ‘Zoom’, Skype or ‘Facetime’ their presence even if they cannot be there in person.

I hope you all manage to have a happy time of it all, even if you, like me, use whisky and ginger to anaesthetise the pain of not being able to be there to actually give the kids a cuddle. I’ll give you all a Ben Bracken toast to happier times this evening (memo to self, must pick up another bottle on December 27th!) :yahoo:

I had no idea what was meant by the acronym SHR so I looked it up, then spent two minutes wondering what the hell was a Spontaneously Hypertensive Rat. I did eventually find that the S stood for Synology!

I have exactly the same problem, my ‘muscle memory’ for modelling is completely geared towards Lightwave. I also have the same issue with cost, as an upgrade of my Lightwave 9 would cost me the best part of $600 and I cannot justify that expenditure on a spare-time hobby.

Your post prompted me to look around, and this YouTube tutorial would fit my basic needs (I probably need the introductory ones as well, as the default tool layout of Blender drove me nuts. These are linked at the bottom of the YouTube page). If you find better tutorials please post a link!

Sounds like you need a firewall with blacklists Steve. You would probably have to analyse your traffic to see what sites are hogging bandwidth.

Thanks Boris, as a lapsed Freeminer (To my father’s irritation, I never applied for the year and a day ‘gale’ right) I know the area well but haven’t lived there for over fifty years.

For the reasons you state it does not really make my point, even though how one person infected 40+ in a week or so needs investigating. Perhaps other similar cases such as the relatively isolated village of Pebworth in Worcestershire that went from nothing to 69 cases in a week would be a better example for detailed back-tracking.

Sorry to say this, but if you believe the speculation in The Guardian, Tier 4 restrictions are likely to be with us for months. 😥

Imo our broken Track and Don’t Trace system is going about this all wrong. If you study the MSOA data at a detailed level, you can find areas that have very little commuting/interaction with their neighbours but despite this, they have rapidly moved into the purple of the highest infection rates. Coleford in Gloucestershire is one such area. In my mind this is indicative of just a few super-spreaders moving into the area and infecting everyone. (This seems to coincide with a time-line of students returning from college)

Although it is too late to stop this, we should be blitzing these areas with Track&Trace people backtracking to identify the super-spreaders and see if they have common attributes that can be identified. If they can, then we should be giving the highest priority to vaccinating such individuals (vaccinate or face internment!).

Boris is a gutless lying toerag.

Anyone who has read the links in my posts will know that the Covid GV mutation emerged in the UK in September  as the predominant UK strain. The fact that none of the lock-downs has succeeded in curtailing the spread in Kent, and that infection rates were increasing in these areas has also been known for at least a month.

Gutless Bojo could have avoided his ‘Gimp who stole Christmas’ act by a full lock down for three weeks at the start of December. Instead he procrastinated and then Blaired the truth by implying that the necessary data has only emerged in the last few days. Had he also mandated the compulsory wearing of face-masks when outside the home we might even have avoided this mess and unnecessary early deaths.

Now many of us will have a lonely Christmas 😥 and too much leftover turkey. I think a trip to the font of Ben Bracken to drown my sorrows  is required! 😥
