Only allowed one edit so I was unable to add the link to the actual EIA report.

I was slightly wrong in my last post about US energy exports:

” The latest edition of the US Energy Information Administration (EIA)’s Annual Energy Outlook (AEO2017) sees the US become a net energy exporter in most scenarios by 2030, and in some by 2020, due to falling liquid petroleum imports and an increase in US natural gas exports.”

The EIA report does not comprehend any Trump impacts.

” That is no secret now, but no one ever explained why we chouse Afghan, when it was obviously OPEC land that we [nato] should of been visiting,”

Steve there are two easy answers to the question you pose. Money and Oil.  The US is in hock up to their eyebrows and the Saudis own most of that debt. link,  (p.s. do not tell Trump!). The second reason is oil. At that time, fracking was an unknown, and the US had huge oil and product imports with Saudi Arabia having the bulk of the worlds known reserves. On that front at least, fracking has enabled the US to become a net energy exporter. I’m not so sure about the debt position as the Saudis were reported to be selling off some of this debt.

Geopoloitics and the relationship with the Saudis is why we went for Afghanistan – in addition to actually carrying out 9/11 the terrorist base in Afghanistan were also carrying out small scale bombings in Saudi Arabia aimed at the corrupt Royal Family, despite being funded by Salafist Wahhabi extremists in that same country. Far too complex to explain to the public in an easy sound-bite imo – Afghanistan was easier to explain, and Bush probably did not really know what was going on.

Agreed John, but the safest way to clean it is via CCleaner.

I think those who look at the lean nature of the Win10 kernel neglect to think of all the other carp piled on top (e.g. the spyware) and also neglect to think about the DirectX pipeline. Imo there is quite a large scope for improving performance.

Sounds like a Windows 10 issue to me, plus maybe a badly fitting ssd. For the latter, make certain that you put any rubber spacer on the correct side of the SSD! Adodgy SSD connection can give intermittent failures such as you experience – Win10 can make this worse if the mobo has uefi.

The Windows 10 iissues again are uefi related, make sure that all your drivers are up to date – check for yellow exclamation marks. Rven if none are present, methodically go through ALL your drivers and check for updates. If you have an Intel chipset go to the Intel site and make certain that you have the most up to date chip-set driver. Win10 does not play nicely with some old NUC mobo drivers for example, neither does the Anniversary carp play well with drivers that were previously OK – been there done that with my wife’s NUC.

A sure sign of a Win10 uefi issue is a spinning wheel BEFORE Win10 has loaded to give any graphic display.

[edit] I forgot – turn off hibernation too.

Try giving it a good clean up with CCleaner (don’t forget to clean up the system files too – an advanced option iirc). You may have been hit with M$’s latest update policy and have loads of unwanted old updates and other junk.

“Yes it is writ large, here if nowhere else. Tangerine man and the gas lighters and the mad Tzar have a love of news manipulation in common.”

ALL politicians or wanna-be politicians do this in one form or another – take the case of the UK accidentally launching a Trident missile aimed at the US and ‘forgetting’ to give parliament all the data when they were reaching a decisions on Trident’s future.

The master dissembler and his spin doctors had press and news manipulation  down to an art-form and all done through dissembling, lies and half truths. The Brexit campaign had it all writ large, and Trump learned a lot from it.

Duke you are not wrong about us old pharts shelling out loads of dosh to get into computing. My first Apple II cost me about 20% of my salary, and a lot of fast talking to SWMBO. It did however pay-off in helping me get promotions at work as well as a bit of pin-money writing magazine articles/software.

Lying media are a fairly common institution, even the UK media are guilty. Putting aside Hillsborough (as I have no personal experience), they blatantly Blaired the numbers at the Anti-Iraq war demo. I marched in that protest and can attest that there were actually more (in terms of filling the Mall plus an overflow) than there were at the Queen Mother’s funeral. Papers now say the numbers were 2+million rather than the hundreds of thousands that were Blaired at the time. (Incidentally I protested, not because I’m anti-war, just that I believed the second Gulf War was a b-stupid ill-thought venture backed by the flimsiest of evidence that would remove focus from Afghanistan – exactly as events proved).

“… anyone with a pair of eyes can see the truth.”

Unfortunately that is not necessarily true in this day and age. Even putting aside Photoshop and far more sophisticated video/photo manipulation programs, there are simple ways of putting up two photos to make the point you raise. Simply having the Trump shot before everyone was there and the Obama shot at the oath taking would be a very easy manipulation to perform.

I don’t think the Beeb had a live camera on the Monument during the oath taking period, but if they did, that would be very difficult for anyone to dispute.

Duke you asked how he could change employment prospects for Americans. Putting aside the vital need for infrastructure investment (US roads=mega-potholes) which will employ a huge number of people, he can simply change US tax laws and tax allowances for US companies who have shifted manufacturing and services overseas. I think he has enough experience of operating overseas to know all the nasty areas of US FASB that he could easily change — look out Apple!

I’d echo you in saying that I liked his speech. We could do with some of his attitudes in the UK especially ‘one new law in, repeal two old ones’, and start penalizing companies for overseas data processing and call centres.

I HATE the way the media in general use the adjective ‘Islamic’ terrorists, they are by no means representative of Islam in general however by our craven and stupid use of the term we have succeeded in drawing all Muslims under the same umbrella. Salafist Wahhabi Sunnis are a tiny portion of the 3 billion Muslims we have managed to alienate.

We were craven in not labeling the real terrorists for fear of alienating the Saudi investors who have propped up Western economies for many years.

Try cooking the naan dough pieces in a hot frying pan, that seems to work for me and emulates the way it is done in Pakistan. (They slap the dough on the inside of a red-hot clay pot-oven).

Unlike London Manchester has an excellent, cheap public transport system. The trams are really good, but using a car to commute into the centre is both expensive and not very practical. Take your GF out to the Trafford Park shopping centre and she will want to move tomorrow!

As a dyed in the wool southerner I am very impressed with the area – the only downside is the weather at least 3 deg c colder than the south most of the time and it really lives up to its ‘wet’ reputation.

Sour cherry has quite a number of claimed health benefits. There are some research results suggesting that it may also be good for reducing insomnia and high blood pressure.

AFAIK so far all these have only been scoping trials which indicate that there may be real effects that are worthwhile researching. Of course drug companies hate natural products so large scale placebo controlled trials are thin on the ground. It could be the new Willow Bark – but drug companies have learned that there isn’t much money in aspirin despite it having well-researched widespread proven benefits (often better than many proprietary drugs).
