My Bad. I assumed that the first dialog (from the Forum Welcome) would contain a space for the Forum. I did not think of going down to the bottom and using a drop-down. Ditto making a new topic within a forum area I assumed (wrongly) that it would pick up the forum area automatically (MM style).
Same error as the topic: error-forum-id-is-missing/
For clarity I’m using a PC (Mint Firefox). The Post New Topic links I tried are the ones in the top Banner.
Maybe it is my fault in that I started with the very top ‘Forum Welcome’ page and tried that top banner drop-down. I thought the error was due to my not actually being on a Forum page. (Probably that drop-down should be removed) I then navigated to the Other Forum, and tried that top banner drop down without success. I then went to the postings index for Other and did not use the banner, but instead a link at top left to open new topic.
Tried a couple of times to make a new topic. The drop-down at the top is broken. and still gives the Error. The only one I could get to work was the top left link on the appropriate forum’s index.
‘nice fire modelling machines on the cheap’
Not knocking your idea, but wouldn’t a Beowulf cluster of Pi Zeroes be better for Monte Carlo simulation work? Agree that CUDA etc give you ready access to parallel operations but there are cases where individual processors MAY be better. The example below is for disease, but an ‘explosive’ fire could result in similar propagation characteristics (i.e. one source rapidly becoming multi-source at geographically disparate locations.).
…. However for creating a cluster running some thing like “condor” Which can be used for things like Disease out break modelling, where you are running the same mathematical model millions of times with varible starting points. (size of out break, wind direction, how infectious the disease is etc.. ) so thing like the Pi would be ideal. as you are general looking for a full blown CPU that can run standard code.http://research.cs.wisc.edu/condor/
Thanks Richard – I now use a +5 pair of specs and a ‘third hand’ to solder, the specs help with the actual soldering but almost give me motion sickness when I use them!
In the end I wasted over a hundred – I’m still carp at doing this. I guess it is a combination of failing eyesight and too much force, but I think it is going to be a while before I can guarantee reasonable results every time. I’m now moving on to the smaller variety of crimps to make these, so I guess a couple of hundred crimps and bits of wire are due to go in the bin!
Bob – thanks for adding the navigation to this section. When I have finalised everything to my satisfaction (including the crimps!) I’ll do a post on reusing the bits from an old Squeezebox as a ‘kitchen’ pc/media centre with built-in 5 inch monitor. Nothing mind-blowing just bringing together a few well-known and maybe lesser-known techniques. (Be kind when you look at the soldering – the old eyes and coordination are not what they used to be.)
In the US they tend to be more brutal with their shows and pull them if they do not make target viewing numbers within a certain time.(I’d guess four shows as that seems to be a typical retention time for cable etc.). If a show is not making a target it would not surprise me to learn that advertising money is thrown at posting mock favourable reviews/endorsements on Social Media etc. That could well result in a viewing figure spike.
I’d echo Steve’s comments – a very nice job of work! Many thanks.
According to Michael Crichton’s wiki it was a film script – does not stop there being a book of the film however.
The original film version is THIS one. It was based on a book by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park fame) which appears to be out of print.
It is actually a very good software package, but I think that their lawyers and licensing group have let greed go to their heads. As ElReg points out they won their case, but the associated losses in terms of future and existing customers may turn this into a Pyrrhic Victory.
Actually Munich may have been better advised to look at dumping SAP to save money. While the complete background to the Court case is obscure, SAP’s claim for £54.5++ million from a Brewery Company in back licence fees for ANYTHING INDIRECTLY connected to their SAP system appears to verge on the obscenely greedy! El Reg link
If I interpret this to the absurd limits implied by this case then the Brewery should be stumping up SAP licence fees and maintenance for my PC every time I use it to place an order on them.! Frankly absurd!
I can think of at least one multinational that will read this and start thinking about migrating away from SAP!
I read your question twice and I’m still not certain what you are trying to do. That said, Displayport gives lots of options. link
I now NEVER use Paypal for foreign orders as they do not give a free product return service, which is why I suggest that an incomplete delivery scam COULD be operated. Try returning something to China and find out how much it costs!
They tried a variety once Lipitor had triggered problems (after 8 years!). Simvastatin, and Atorvastatin are two I remember. I suspect that when you get to the stage that the insulating myelin nerve sheath has been damaged anything that prevents both the healthy and unhealthy aspects of cholesterol’s repair of the sheath is a bad idea. I therefore informed my GP that the statin prophylactics were damaging quality of life by too great a factor. I’d take my chances on upping exercise and reducing carbohydrate consumption after 4pm. Eliminating statins did not make a huge difference to the bad cholesterol levels but the good ones shot up.
There is also a fairly simple Paypal scam that can be pulled. List an item for under £25, ship from China just a cheap phone back. Customer complains to Paypal. Vendor accepts claim but wants recorded express shipment of phone-back before they will ship again. (Paypal terms) and will then ship missing item. Sending back the phone back at cost of ~£20 (non-refundable). Most customers will walk at this stage and accept loss. Vendor standing remains good with Paypal!
Ignoring the Pump&Dump risk, I well remember in China that there were more subcontractor scams than anything else, especially on high markup goods. The subcontractor would get a contract for (say) 5000 high value named French/Italian Fashion bags. They would in fact make (say) 7500. Raw material value naff-all but put name, logo and packaging on it and you are talking £;00s. Although the companies tried to control the important bits like their tags, there was always ‘wastage’ and a thriving blackmarket in knock-off tags that would get fixed to the ‘real’ bags and the resulting spares used as ‘genuine’ Frankenstein knockoffs. Bottom line, some top brand names could be obtained for peanuts in the well-known Beijing street market area, and some ‘genuine’ articles were in reality knockoffs.
I would guess that the phone market is similar even though the component mark-up cannot be as large, so I would doubt £8 for a £150 Elephone — £30 maybe.
More likely ‘pump & dump’. Early birds get great bargains – good publicity then beware!
I agree BL, I think the phone versions of VLC have all been emasculated. I guess the porting was not carried out with luv.
