Interesting. Paypal have a very different attitude from BT!
BT basically say its all too hard if the original origin is overseas.,
The UK customers who normally propagate this end of the phishing are just innocent tech ignorant zombies, and the originating scumbags are residents in countries where prosecution is difficult, and it is hard to prove that they are not just innocent cut-outs in the chain.
“but what constitutes abuse of an SSD??”
A hammer is one easy way to carry out some abuse John, but the first thing to check is whether it is a ‘warranty’ or a ‘guarantee’. The first is a contract that only applies to the original purchaser and the seller/manufacturer.
On some items e.g. cars the manufacturer will extend the warranty to the new purchaser. Looks like SanDisk cannot be bothered but you would need to read all the small print on their original warranty to see what is covered (there are no standards on this contract except they must not try to take away rights under the Sale of Goods Act). The EU sale of goods act only applies to the original buyer/seller unless the buyer is a trader when it may be extended. My guess is that Sandisk have decided their warranty is non-transferable as the second hand market is not important to them..
Guarantees are normally limited only to faults appearing within a certain time.
Thanks Dave.
The maximum was removed a few years ago and the production tariff reduced. However, afaik you can no longer ‘add-on’ additional capacity you have to put in as much as you can afford right at the start. I may test that limitation in a couple of years time if I get a ‘plug’-hybrid car.
I’m not sure what Neon is, but the latest Windows 10 insider preview introduces new brighter colours for the command shell. (you need a fresh install to see them). Link
Everyone (including partners) need their own space. This is especially true when you retire, work from home or have a bevy of kids under your feet.. The latter has become even more important in this day and age due to the difficulty of actually kicking the kids out.
Two thirds of the year they are great, especially if you take care to line them up with the sun. Unfortunately in the overcast days of winter your charging rate will drop to about 10-20% of the summer rate.
If anyone does read the somewhat prophetic novel Sycamore they should also read about Google’s latest take on Google Glass. link
As usual it depends on where you are, your phone and its provider. The Coverage map shows that Plymouth is very well served. The Dart valley is very different. link
Ah! now I remember. But I thought you had gone bit Linuxy too.
Almost too conservative Lee! Other than a vague ‘Windows’ I’m not sure what the other bits mean.
At least the rampant phallic symbol could also be interpreted as any pair of things beginning with ‘F’ with one being a bit twisted.
More twists and turns are revealed in this ElReg link. One VERY interesting fact is that despite allegedly developing Khronos, he actually asked for a sample of the malware! Case dismissed imho. A far more likely scenario is that he has been framed by a vengeance seeking Wannacry perpetrator.
I agree with Steve – turn off the digital bank switch then you can rapidly make someone a non-person limited to what they can physically trade for other physical goods. Unless they own a farm they pretty soon become dead as well.
Common to both Cornwall and Devon, they have some of the worst telecoms in the UK!
An extra strike against both counties is that they sometimes play silly b’s with the GPS signals around military bases. Makes it very interesting when you get a map clearly showing you should turn left and a GPS saying make a U-turn wherever possible!
Details and the indictment are here. Nothing in either give grounds for saying anything other than the offences are ‘alleged’.
Unfortunately all who attend the Black Hat convention (Def Con) are guilty by association, irrespective of the actual colour of their hats, so he faces an up-hill battle.
Update – the Beeb reports that he was arrested for an alleged role in the Kronos banking Trojan.
Read the SF novel Sycamore to get one person’s view of a world where such chips, plus Google Glass are made mandatory wear and one in which ‘cash’ is also made illegal. OTT but a nevertheless scary vision of the future in which all privacy is abolished.
China just like all nation states (US & UK included) spy on their citizens. (See link). Just like other nations China uses the same excuse that the continuity of the Establishment matters more than the privacy rights of the individual.
Perhaps China has a bit more of an excuse than other nations in that their own nation is a cobbled-together, not entirely stable and happy, amalgam of Han Chinese and some 56 other identifiably different racial ethnic groups. These other ethnic groups actually featured on their currency link , and they not only look different from one another they speak different dialects of Chinese (Mandarin is often only used as a common trading language between such groups) . There are also the usual tensions and power-plays between the groups which were amplified to an extent by their geographic isolation.
Sounds like you needed a few of these Steve! Just one poor SOB has to carry all the electronic kit.
