Kdenlive is an excellent simple and powerful editor, but Linux only.It is now my favourite video editor.

I have never tried it with a Live CD but that may be an option for a Windows user.

Probably just an image quality /level of compression versus speed trade-off Drezha. While the file format for jpgs is standard the compression algorithms can be quite different. You would need to take some stock photos for both Android and Apple and see what level of detail Apple has sacrificed to get a tighter compression. Even then you would probably have to significantly enlarge images to see differences.

Eclipses still generate some weird reactions and beliefs in the Middle East/Sub-Contintent lapsed sun/Moon worshipers (most of the religions in the area have a sun and or moon element in them, even Islam). I recollect having to cancel a whole slew of meetings during the 1999 Asian eclipse as either people would not travel or they suddenly pleaded sickness. It took a Hindu to educate me that many in the area still believe that ‘bad things’ happen during a time of total eclipse and that I was wasting my time trying to organise meetings. His particular belief was the eclipse enabled one or more of the zillion demons in the area to escape , and all this from an otherwise well-educated and urbane individual. Humanity still has the ability to astound.

Sorry, what must be the worlds longest link does not work for me. From the address I see it was originally a YouTube, maybe that link would be easier! This one?

+1 for learning by doing. Some of these languages and libraries are now so complex that I find the only way is to crack-on with a project (the Raspberry Pi forces my hand on that), then when I get stuck Google around until I can fix it. – most of the time my question has already been asked!

Of all your options C++ is the hardest. I think I’d start with the free Microsoft resources and see if is a language you are comfortable in learning. (Google on Microsoft learning C++)   Visual Studio is free and as you will see that alone is a major step as learning your way around the IDE takes some time.

You earlier said that a friend may have a job dealing with reporting suites. I assume these are things like amalgamating/sieving various reports to produce a consolidated report. I find Python has the largest array of tools for such quick and dirty work. Google on ‘Python web scraping’ and ‘Python Beautifulsoup’ for some examples. Python also has the biggest suite of AI/Machine Leartning tools. but you should not even look at the latter topics until you have the Python basics. (see this Quora article

With any home security camera set-up take a few moments to think through what you are trying to achieve.I’d say this camera was excellent if you want to see the world from the viewpoint of a small kitten, but not much else! If you want to monitor your front door or something then go for a permanent install mounted around ceiling height. However, these will normally only ‘catch’ amateur intruders and those unaware of the camera locations.. The pros take steps to make such filming useless. link To catch people such as ‘The Wimbledon Cat Burglar’, the camera has to be a small easily moved hidden one (lots of these spy cameras are on the market, or easily make one with a raspberry pi.)

If you mean the ‘hidden’ Super Administrator account then my answer would be to leave it well alone! It gains very little except when you are troubleshooting and makes your pc very vulnerable. In fact I do not use the ‘normal’ Admin account unless I really have to which is very rarely, as you can run as Admin in most cases it is needed)

Bob, we obviously share some useful  traits from our Neanderthal hunter ancestors. Probably a recessive gene as my elder son can get totally lost even when the route is signposted.

The wiki is interesting – but still puts the syndrome in the bs zone.

I do not think that I’d totally rule out the possibility that there are electromagnetic influences on the brain – for example many birds use magnetic fields to navigate. I’d posit that humans too have that ability as I can irritate my wife by my ability to always instinctively know where ‘north’ is situated.. Funnily enough an ability that gets totally screwed in steel framed buildings and in the southern hemisphere!

As Rumsfeld said there are known unknowns and unknown unknowns!

I agree about the (offensive) Clio blag name. I have a mental tic in that it always gets turned into something mildly obscene. I think it probably stems from the big ‘rump’ that was the most noticeable feature of the original marque.

True Dave but there are normally six or so channels which when added together might produce some lower frequency pulses. As shown here the wave form from wifi emitters may be actually quite complex rather than the two 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies implies.

I’m still inclined to think it is BS, but being able to subliminally influence people through their TV screens is typically Orwellian Google!

GIL is explained in the wiki. The short version is that Python will only run one thread as it is not thread safe.

The Pink screen of death is a specific VMWare issue (it causes a complete lock-up of the vm). Initially most other vm engines had similar problems but I believe Xen may since have cobbled up a solution.

Other than vm machines (where it apparently still gives the pink screen of death) it all depends on the software.

A lot of software (for example Python) deliberately does not allow multi-processing.  However once things like the stupid GIL limitations are removed from s9oftware the more cores the better. (I have some trivial programs that cause me extremely frustrating issues due to the extra steps I have to take to get around multiprocessing limitations in Python).
