I’ll play one last time then probably give up and go back to programming my Pi!

The game remains insanely difficult. Even though I’m on level 7  and playing at the ‘do not hurt me level’ my weapons just bounce off 90% of any opponents I meet and even my super-hero partner gets quickly zapped and fails to come to the rescue. The effort/reward logic is poor, it takes far too long to reach the point where maybe your weapons and armor put you on equal terms with your opponents (I’m nowhere near that point).

I’m getting fed up of running/flying like hell to escape yet another failed encounter with no experience points. The result is frustration. In my view, although the graphics/animation are superb (particle effects are a bit naff however), the game play is extremely badly flawed – even worse if that is possible than previous efforts from this studio. How anyone could write scenarios that pit super-human impervious grenade throwing mutants against someone armed with a blunt sword beats me. In Fall-out there was always the option to snipe from a distance or from a height when this happened – not however in this poorly balanced game, if the opponents cannot reach you they vomit extremely toxic gunk that has an equivalent range to your ranged weapon – a toy bow and arrow by comparison.

This is definitely the last game I ever buy from this Studio.

I bought a cheap Transcend reader as I keep losing the little ones. The Transcend is usb3 and I have found it very reliable.and covers all the bases including cf cards.

Bob, I would also classify myself as ‘not a gamer’, rather I am a person who from time to time plays games. I also write programs so I know a little about the black art of writing games programs. Sometimes programmers get too full of themselves and put in little ‘mind games’ that block or could block progress. An example might be an opponent that can only be defeated by a weapon that is locked away in a combination safe. In an ideal world the programmer will hide a suitable clue quite nearby, but sometimes the programmer has a brainstorm and hides the clue a metaphorical half-block away. Rather than trying an average of 300 combinations to get the answer I think the quite reasonable options are to either throw away the game or cheat by Googling for the answer!

With respect to cheat engines – sorry I have no experience but warn that you really need ones you can trust if  you want to avoid your expensive  pc becoming a botnet zombie.

There is more to this story than published. The last paragraph is totally out of place and completely extraneous info:

“All Royal Navy vessels have a “no touching rule” that prohibits intimate relationships on board.”

            Coke orgies on Trident subs?????

I still think that Trident per-se is a horrible waste of tax payers money, but having it manned by a bunch of coke-heads really makes me shiver! link

I played for a couple of hours yesterday. Although the game remains insanely hard, I eventually found myself able to carry out trivial attacks on very low level monsters. Even while accompanied by one of the super-human companions I spent most of my time running like hell from the nearest monsters as I still do not possess a decent set of armor. Maybe the play balance improves later, but I would at this stage only recommend this game to someone who likes running and flying away from everything. The game engine is however brilliant – pity that there were no novices in their the play-testers, and zero out of ten for the lack of documentation/hints. If you do buy this game spend a lot of time watching you-tubes from the play-testers and at least read this first!

                  I spent my pennies!

Very initial review is that it is insanely difficult to play(you will die very frequently and find most opponents impossible even on a ‘do not hurt me level) and as usual Piranha Bites are not a Bethesda when it comes to game mechanics – combo attacks are not explained and are too difficult to carry-out. It is also difficult to build up the necessary skill points to do things such as getting trained really dumb! So there are quite a lot of criticisms I could level not least what the hell is ‘cold’!

On the positive side the game map is huge and graphics are excellent and the creatures well animated although AI is not brilliant. I do like the way you lose vision when going from bright light to shade and vice versa – very clever. Game play is open ended and it is quite possible (perhaps necessary) to avoid joining a faction until you have to do so.

Would I buy it again if I could go back in time ? At this stage I would have to say that the jury is out, and that  despite all the odds they have managed to repeat some (not all) of the Game Play no-nos’ of both Gothic and Risen. Bottom line at this stage I’m afraid is to wait for the sales price, unless you want a game that will really stretch your monitor and gpu.

Maybe my view will change in a week or so.

Steve although Win10 is fairly secure you still need something to handle the flaws in apps and progs. (as a very bad example – Adobe carp). Get a drive-by and you could still be in trouble. For that reason you need something that at least handles the common or garden carp – any NSA Win10 ero days that have got out in the wild (still a lot of em)and you are stuffed anyway. Kaspersky is probably better set up to handle these anyway!

My iPad2 is still going though the battery is starting on the downhill slope. I have a cheap Amazon Fire and tbh for most things it is better than the iPad2.

El Reg  has more info on its dispersal vectors – Media sites, fake flash updates then SMB network attacks seems to be its route for now.

Batteries are often easy to replace (see YouTube) , and sometimes larger capacity compatible batteries are available. Doesn’t help you with respect to space, but may buy time to wait for Black Friday deals.

Reviews. Both the batteries and the seller.

                            +1

As PM says look for reviews. Many batteries are ‘smart’ and are integrated with the laptop’s power management system, so compatibility is the primary thing to look for, hence the need for good reviews for your laptop.

Dave, it depends how much you trust the Government. My trust was heavily eroded by TBLiar, and each year actions by the Government in power (lies, distortions of the truth and broken promises) erode that trust a little further. While I agree I have very few assets that are immediately convertible to cash it is comforting to know that in an emergency I could over a period of time convert it all to a uniform medium of exchange over which there would be little Government control – Bitcoins even.

BTW your Cheddar Valley link appears unusable using a Linux computer, the ‘age’ thing seems to require Activex. Be careful drinking too much cider, the high potassium content may interfere with your meds.

My wife is a true-blue Manc so we made the annual pilgrimage to the Etiad. I was soaked to the skin from Thursday through Saturday, and I learned the lesson that ‘light rain’ Manc-style is anything but light, it is one step removed from Monsoon!

Long live cash! The Government would love us to get rid of cash as then they would have total control over the prols. Put one foot wrong and all your assets disappear into never-never land. Get rid of cash and you are voting for the ultimate police state.

I must admit to getting very smoked at women (some men too) that go mental if a wasp goes near them, the jump and run about, with no car for their own safety. It teaches very bad lessons to thier children. And is more likely to get them killed by a car, instead of a small sting. I know which I’d rather have.

I can understand some people getting spooked. A friend of mine has been warned that the next bee/wasp sting could kill him unless he can get immediate medical attention. I guess it could get him before he managed to reach his EpiPen.

Funny place in some respects. Lots of things we consider dangerous – insane risk taking helicopter pilots, horrendously fast zip wires, jet boats etc are treated with disdain. But many kiwis go weak-kneed over wasps (so-called GERMAN wasps) or rumours of an escaped snake. They even banned  schools teaching about radioactivity for a while because of potential dangers!

I had problems with port 81 and Firefox (not Hikvision). In that instance it was Firefox’s new security settings not recognising the port as a secure one despite it being on the home network. When I mentioned it here Dave said that this was not a problem on Hikvision so the problem area may just be coincidental.

Seems I am not totally stupid in not understanding inertia.

The ‘American Scientist‘ has a fascinating article on the inertial guidance system that always points at the Great Gate of Kiev, with all the navigational ‘intelligence’ coming from a simple spinning axle.
