I worry more about how you are formatting the SD card before you are inserting it in the Android. Try SDFormatter it gets rid of some of the carp that gets pre-installed by some card vendors. (use the option for format size adjustment).

The RMA sounds like the route to go in this instance, but I would have tried the formatter before buying new cards.

Savvy <18s will very quickly start using vpns and delve into the much more dangerous territories of the Dark Web, they will probably set up a thriving business of usb stick containing their more dangerous wares.

They don’t need to. It just took me about ten seconds to open a torrent site with a dedicated porn section. 25 torrents per page, and I clicked through to over 70 pages before I gave up on trying to find the end. This is a ‘normal’ video site that most people use for movies and TV. TPB has 30 items per page, but is loading too slowly for me to find out how many pages it has. There are 30 pages in the initial view. Neither of these are specialist sites, or needed anything other than a browser to access. As usual, the government are pissing in the wind and wasting our money.

Not wasting, it is a way of injecting Government money into the struggling UK p0rn and tech industries. ? It will be interesting to see the list of MPs who declare that they have an interst in MindGeek.

The link itself cites ” Daniel Cooper Engadget 23 November 2017″. I have no idea where the journo obtained his info. I’m also sorry that I cannot remember how I happened across the info.

It is going to be interesting, but whoever keeps the data had better have a secure system as it will not only have p0rn users but also those who watch Game of Thrones etc on Sky or most Channel 4 programs.

It is all typical ill-thought Government bureaucracy that achieves nothing. Savvy <18s will very quickly start using vpns and delve into the much more dangerous territories of the Dark Web, they will probably set up a thriving business of usb stick containing their more dangerous wares.

I also worry that this will quickly evolve into an extension of Cameron’s censorship plans, I’m sure the Government hates the fact that it is trivial to find out what the Beeb et al fail to report or more likely distort in line with Government diktat.

Richard, unnoticed over-night reflux is not uncommon. Rather than increasing the dosage of my ppi my Consultant recommended taking Gavescon just before retiring for a period until things stabilise. He also prescribed domperidom to be used when bad food/drink choices were inevitable. This speeds up the gut process so reducing reflux risk. It is a mild laxative so regular use is not a good idea. I will not say these measures solved all problems but it certainly reduced them.

He is an anti-pill man, and tries to minimise their use/dosage unless absolutely necessary. Unfortunately he nags me about my weight and tells me that even the upper end of the bmi range is still too much. (he is a thin as a rake so it is hard to give any push-back). He is the first gut consultant that I have ever seen who examined everything from reactions and dental health to memory before getting down to business. (In retrospect he was probably eliminating alcoholism as a factor)

Steve I’ll defend GPs as being generally caring people who try to do their best in difficult circumstances with a lot of accompanying stress and long hours. If they were just in it for the money they would have gone the Consultant route.

That said, I do agree with carefully detailing all symptoms and observations/concerns. They only have 10minutes per patient and often spend most of that time trying to get a clear description of why the person has even bothered to come along.

I also agree re antibiotics, they are the lazy GPs panacea and all too often the patient complains if they do not receive them. Maybe there should be a ‘new’ antibiotic placebo instead!

The other strike against antibiotics is that they frequently trigger destroy all the good gut bugs and trigger major gastric problems.

Richard, if you have any gastric reflux problems then they can cause nasal/catarrh/throat/cough issues. The reflux will irritate the top of the throat and trigger the above. (Been there got the biscuit).

I think Richard was alluding to possible outside factors. When I was overseas a whole spate of problems was eventually traced back to poor air-con hygiene. I’m not suggesting that as a cause, but one more likely area to look at is your shower system – bacterial build-up (say) in the shower head is a well-known source of nasties including Legionnaires disease, it can even cause other body ailments of eyes, and bladder. You can Google it yourself but this is a typical Mirror journo pseudo-science article.

Singapore has an NS similar to your suggestion. However, graduates hate it as they see NS getting in the way of them earning big bucks. Possibly enforced reserve training for graduates might be more appropriate and better accepted by both graduates and employers (they do lose some of the creativity as a result of NS conformity).

I used to much prefer employing Singaporean female graduates as they were both more creative and more inclined to willingly give their opinions. (I hate ‘yes men’.)

Lee – wouldn’t it be more efficient to make one huge brew of black tea and then stick it in a air-pot (vacuum flask).

At last some signs of sense from the MOD – maybe we can reduce our commitment to this load of rubbish. El Reg link

Maybe we have Brexit to thank for this, but it is more likely due to our acknowledging that we are just a sixth-rate power.

                            Yep – Minix III. link

It is also probably the basis for the remote attacks revealed by Snowdon in which an Intel PC can be completely bricked (currently if the management engine does not run then the PC will not boot). As it gives low level unmonitored access to the IP stack it is also probably the way NSA/GCHQ can do a complete big Brother on any Intel mobo/PC. As usual the danger is now that every bot net manager will be looking to this to increase the size of their control span. The Intel Management Engine is a prime example of the dangers of a Government insisting on hidden back doors.

A correction John. In general Energy companies do NOT want them, they cost a lot of money, but they are under a Government mandate to roll-out these things. Not for me thank you, we get more than enough info direct to our Pcs via the solar PV set-up.

The ‘savings’ come from altering the way you consume electricity. You can get most of the savings already by moving to a dual fuel  (gas/electricity) contract and doing your own meter readings. The bulk of any remaining ‘savings’ can be obtained by having a day/night tariff and doing your heavy lifting (tumbler dryer, or dish washer) off-peak i.e over night. If you use a slow cooker overnight you can even avoid the high consumption cost that goes with an electric oven.

The Jaz was its bigger brother and although it was an hdd Iomega gave that one crappy firmware as well! Not surprising that Iomega’s share price cratered soon after.

The Feed in Tariff rate has so far gone up in line with the Green Energy charge – effectively an inflation proof return if you use most of what you generate. I think you would have to get some estimates from a reliable installer who would take due account of your alignment and latitude. We used GESS and I am happy with both their work and follow-up, it obviously depends on cloud cover but I’d reckon their payout is within a 10% contingency so far.

Sorry Richard, I have been tied up with a few things and only dipping into the Forum. Basically my installation is on track for an eight year pay-out. (The Government reduce their subsidy each year which is why my payout is lower than Wasbit. It is down again this year so the current payout for new installations may only be marginal (you would need to check, but I’d be surprised if it is better than a 10-12 year payout and high risk if  post-Brexit inflation kicks in. (older installtions are not affected by such rules changes as these are treated like a fixed term contractual deal)

With respect to the battery that was probably not a great investment at the time, (couple of percent max), but they are getting much cheaper. We bought it because I feared another ‘Winter of Discontent’ brewing, and the 6KWHr battery controller can be manually switched to be used as a giant household UPS. So really that was relatively cheap insurance but it does allow the wife to more easily schedule large consumption loads (dish washer & tumbler dryer) to peak solar production periods. (pretty much zero today I’m afraid!).

What the setup may do is swing the economics of our next car towards a plug-hybrid. Off the cuff we reckon that could give us ‘free’ motoring for half the year.

Agree with Wasbit, the other tack a retailer may take is to ask you to return the set to them and they will pay for repairs/give cash depending if it is repairable. The Which Guide might be a useful one if you can make the set look like it has not been tampered with in any way.

Pity you gutted it. I think that you would have had a fair (but not guaranteed) claim under the sale of goods Act. Six years or so is the expected life for a TV so I think you would have been in a good position to get money back from Argos. (see link). Now, nothing, unless you lie through your teeth, or can get a tame professional repairer to say they investigated and found it faulty.

During my young commuter days, like  some 80% of the population I was a smoker and had a minimal sense of smell. I did not realise at the time what a blessing that was on the Underground. Having given up smoking for over 40 years I now find the ‘honk’ from human body odours on the Tube overwhelming, but I still love the buzz of the city.
