I see that after making statements of there being no-risk to the general public, users of The Mill and Zizzis in Salisbury are now being told to wash everything they had that day. Beeb report
I just hope that the authorities are using a specific test rather than a generic test for organo-phosphorus compounds otherwise every establishment that has ever treated for cockroaches is going to test positive!
Richard you could substitute most of the Middle East and many other countries for your comments. Money and morals rarely make good bed-fellows.
I know nothing factual about the other 14 deaths, so I cannot make an intelligent comment.
I was just relaying US comments about the Skripal case. Other US comments are of a similar vein – puzzlement.
Btw this was Amber Rudds statement on the Police Sergeant:
““The officer was one of the first responders on Sunday, acting selflessly to help others,” the Home Secretary said.
She obviously has a different definition from me on what ‘first responder’ means.
Actually Richard any competent rogue chemist (such as those that illegally brew amphetamines) could safely make Sarin. This was amply demonstrated on the Tokyo subway attack by Aum Shinrikyo some thirteen years ago. The hardest part would be getting the chemical precursors without arousing suspicion.
In any criminal case, motive is one of the main elements that require to be ascertained. I see no logical motive for Putin to want to get involved. Superficially this man is of no further interest to the Russian Government. ‘Revenge’ eight years after his spy-swap makes no logical sense.
I believe the most likely perpetrators are not those of the Russian State but more likely ex-colleagues seeking revenge or maybe MacMafia contacts as it has been hinted that he has been spending a lot of time overseas (particularly Malta).
KVE or KVM? If the latter they are notoriously ‘picky’
.
Its not unusual to need a PS2 keyboard to access the bios, especially if a password has been set. In the latter case the bios is often set up to ask for the password before it enters into the fallback legacy usb1 setting to gain usb keyboard access (dumb!). Bitter experience with such a problem is why I have a cheap (<£10) PS2 keyboard stashed away for emergency use.
iirc the tech press gave it a big ho-hum! i.e. Not fast enough, lacking in innovation and too expensive. I got the impression from the press that Intel was struggling to find an effective answer to the Ryzen Threadripper architecture — see zdnet
Unless you need a Studio’s real-time kernel you may be better off with a bog standard Lubuntu + apps.Audio dsp seems to be the one real area of use for the not so average person e.g. Slippy and the like.
This Quora article lists the programs that are preinstalled in Studio. Tbh I have no idea what half of them do!
The Ubuntu family ALL have a very nasty ‘feature’ that often locks out any other activity while downloading updates. I suspect that there is a bug in the way it handles resource allocation generating deadlocks.
I made my comment generic (i.e cpu, disk i/o, network) as it is difficult to pin down the bad actor. I know that I can cause deadlocks in a Ryzen powered vm simply by only allocating one core and 1GB ram then launch Firefox immediately after launch when the update daemon normally comes into action. That this is a cpu/ram deadlock is demonstrated by adding a core and upping ram to 2GB.
Just reinstall it and leave it alone while it is updating. Unless you need ALL the features of Studio I’d suggest that you look at a ‘lighter’ distro such as lubuntu. If you need a good editor then install kdenlive onto lubuntu – it is a really good video editor.
It all adds to life’s variety Bob. The secret is not to take anything personally. Not always possible I know as everyone has at least one hot button. I actually miss some of the posters who kept flogging the same goods. (come back Bruce all is forgiven!)
The Beeb is showing some brilliant bus driving. Some idiot managed to get their car sideways on, on the wrong side of the road. The bus driver comes over a blind ridge, and is confronted with the car blocking his lane. Somehow he did a four-wheel drift around the car and no-one got hurt!.
I stand corrected – I was out by a couple of years — rewrite my remarks as 1962/63! Still most years were pretty bad, but trains etc ran on time as they were a lot heavier and BR had no compunction at chucking down loads of salt and sand.
It isn’t remotely as bad as the 1960/61 winter. I can still remember coming home from the 1960 Boxing Day Newport v Babas match and spending most of my time going downhill on my backside as my neoprene soled winklepickers were more like ice-skates than crampons! That was merely the start of three months of snow and sub-zero weather when even the sea was frozen at Brighton.
Iirc there were still patches of snow on Dartmoor on mid-summers day.
This ‘Beast from the East’ is just a pussy-cat in comparison.
Blame the town planners, I’ll bet they were the ones that stipulated Barbie pink. When real Suffolk lime-wash is first applied it is bright pink due to impurities in the lime, then over time it fades into off-white.The next door property emulates a sort of faded Scottish lime-wash.
However, I bet that Barbie pink doesn’t ever fade.
Thats one nice aspect about the digital photo option for renewal, you need do nothing about positioning the image of the head. If your photo is acceptable in terms of resolution and exposure the site’s software will crop and centre your head and shoulders photo to conform with the HMPO rules.
You do however have to note that the digital photo must be an unaltered original, no photoshopping, cropping etc is allowed.
“Is there any way to recover data from flash ram that has been erased ?”
Apparently this caused forensic investigators a lot of trouble initially and initially the problem was thought intractable. In fact completely over-written SSD data is still snoop-proof, but simply reformatted data can be recovered fairly easily, albeit a time consuming and not necessarily a perfect restoration). There is however a problem in over-writing SSDs as the trim process is such that it is difficult to ensure EVERY byte is over-written and a special program for writing huge file random data might be required and the erase might take over an hour to perform.
Imo bigger is better – I’d go for a 27inch for a tad more money. As the old peepers start to fade it is good to be able to make full use of ctrl+ and zoom stuff up. Ditto the Win10 font size options.
England deserved to lose – they were complacent and lacked the drive to win. Those two factors inevitably lead to a loss.
Good luck – I’m afraid Kodak lost its photographic expertise when it gave up making film. They are now in the Bit-Coin business – nuff said!
Good luck – my wife dropped her laptop and it obviously displaced one of the keyboard connections with symptoms very similar to those given. Curing it would have been simply reattaching the keyboard loom but it was one of those laptops built to cause diy frustration (an Asus). The keyboard removal/replacement steps would have taken 4+hours much more than I was willing to do, and too expensive to repair ( the keyboard could not be accessed without gutting all the laptop internals).
