Sorry Les, I forgot that you used Linux, but Linux and noveau graphics drivers do have a very bad history. Are you using the default Ubuntu/Mint drivers or the much better non-free ones from nVidia?
You may find the fix rather difficult so it maybe better to concentrate on temps first.
Tbh as your problems recur with different cards they do not sound like they are connected to a specific graphics card but are more likely environmental ones with overheating being a likely candidate, and driver corruption perhaps less likely.
Give the insides of your case a good blast of compressed air. If you keep pets, check that their hairs are not fouling up any case filters.
Although you do not have the AMD/nVidia driver clash, sometimes old drivers can cause issues. nVidia are really bad at housekeeping old drivers and at least you may be able to save a LOT of disk space by following this Reddit tip. I would be tempted to go further and completely remove your drivers and note their tip “Driver files should always be uninstalled before updating to newer drivers or when removing an older NVIDIA card and replacing it with a newer card.“ link
Driver corruption can also be caused by disk faults and crashes. You do not say if you have other PC problems but if you have crashes, or abrupt shutdowns (pulling the plug) you might like to take a look at these issues as well.
This link covers similar points and gives a longer checklist of items that cause such problems.
Imo better to keep your Pixel and spend that sort of money on an FLIR attachment. Not only does it have a value in finding areas in your house that need insulating, it also takes really interesting pictures in the dark! link
[edit] The USBC version is a little more expensive, but not as outrageous as the Apple version!
I guess you went through the Google help page for the Pixel. Their ultimate is a factory reset and then get in touch with their support team.
If it doesn’t it is fairly easy to get a program to auto-launch on the Pi link.
Some programs can be picky to auto-launch as they want other things like Ethernet up and running first. You can normally bodge these by launching a script with the requisite delays etc which then goes on to launch your desired program.
Good size for a Pi media server, you just need a cheap usb->SATA link
Pimoroni is not the cheapest but you may find it a useful Pi link, I also use Hobbytronics – one of the lesser known suppliers.
I had a typo in my post CTRL and – (the minus sign) reduces the image size. Sorry about that!
Ctrl and + only affects the browser page image – it magnifies it. It does not alter the screen resolution.
Ctrl and = reverses it and decreases browser page image size.
Both sets of keystrokes work in Firefox edge and IE. Neither alter the actual window size. You can repeat ctrl+ at least three times – I’m not sure if there is an upper limit as I have never needed to use the sequence more than three times.
Try it you may like it.
I find it very useful running Linux vms within a 4K monitor as Linux does not have Windows automatic font size function.
btw just resize your Ape image to 300×300 you can do this without making it too pixelated. link
Boris your link gives a ‘thread not available’ response.
Other than Health&Safety regs I do not think they have to recover the propane today, except perhaps to vent it safely. However back in the days that freon was being phased out there certainly was a mandatory recovery requirement.
Click within browser window then try hitting Ctrl and + a couple of times when in higher res mode!
There is a list of short games on Gog, but arcade may be best for a quick dip
You almost certainly need to have the working fluid topped up. (Probably propane + lubricant is used today ). Kwik-fit and others do it.
Probably best to have a specialist do it so they can vac rest it for leaks.
When I lived in the Tropics this was a regular 3 year job (freon in those days).
Dave what browser is being used? If Firefox, one very good PUP killer is to refresh Firefox. link
It starts to look as though AMD are getting close to their old position of competitive performance at lower prices. The Ryzen 7 2700x could well start to eat into Intel sales if this overclock data is typical. link
CymBaYa for Eisteddfod trips?
I don’t know enough about the CPS. Was she the sole decision maker, or has she set misguided policies? I read a newspaper headline today that it may be a misguided Police policy not to reveal contradictory evidence, but conceal it instead.
Richard, the emphasis is on inappropriate. If the potential dangers, or accident rate justify lower speeds then that is appropriate in my book. Short stretches of speed restrictions before bends or junctions may well be appropriate as well.
I suspect that many of the Surrey restrictions I rant about are due more to the local hunt wanting to cross these roads at weekends/Bank Holidays than anything else.
Unfortunately I find that cars have gone from a ‘fun to drive’ object to a utilitarian object to get myself & loved ones safely from point A to point B. Cars used to be fun, but the imposition of senseless speed limits (Surrey is one of the worst counties) both irritates and removes any pleasure from driving. As a result I no longer really care what I drive provided it is safe, comfortable and economical.
I’m not ranting against speed limits. In fact I think in some areas (around schools for example) mandatory 20mph limits make a lot of sense, but to stick a 40mph limit on a country road with a half mile visibility and no houses adjacent to the road is plain daft. Equally, I would rant against cones with no workers anywhere in sight, or Highways England’s malicious use of stop/go restrictions on the M25.
70mph Motorway limits were possibly appropriate in the 60s when cars took half a mile to stop, but they should be increased to cater for the better/safer driving conditions of the 21st century! There should also be a public right of appeal against inappropriate use of restrictions just because a doddery County Councillor (think Surrey) lives on a road.
Inappropriate restrictions make my blood boil.
