If you have ever experienced a brown photochemical smog caused by NOX and particulates quite frankly it does not matter if it is a carcinogen or just an eye and lung irritant, it is b-awful stuff. Luckily we rarely get enough sun in the UK for a true red-brown smog to develop but go to LA or Beijing and even the sparrows cough!

I really could not give a fig for the outmoded pageantry of the  event, but I wish them both luck & happiness. I have a feeling that she is going to need a lot of luck and political astuteness in order to weather the fascist tendencies of the Establishment.

I have nothing against powerbanks BUT do carefully read up on their limitations.  If they do not EXPLICITLY say they can be used and charged simultaneously then assume that they should NEVER be used and charged at the same time. Also never leave a powerbank charging overnight. Read up on them – never overcharge and never run them flat. Also make sure they have some sort of controller to ensure they are not charged at too fast a rate.

While many powerbanks are perectly safe, others are a fire-bomb waiting to go off if they get a bit of abuse.?

Although you will not find them in powerbanks among the most dangerous are the ‘soft’ Li-poly packs you get in the RC world. Be very careful with these.

Ditto Qatar, most countries (ours included) do some very nasty sub-rosa things. On the world ranking scale of doing the nasties the US is up there along with Russia, while Qatar, Turkey Saudi Arabia etc fund and/or aid ISIS, and in many ways are much worse. Of course Israel also ranks pretty high on doing nasty things in public view.

I think if you decided to only go to ‘clean’ countries you would have a very short list of only New Zealand plus Scandinavian countries.

House Doctors are also pretty useless at cannulas as they do not do it often enough. Ambulance crews and phlebotomists are ace at it.

                    Crow-eating time!

I should not have used an old Stretch when I posted the above. In the latest version Raspberry Pi have dumped Pulse (hooray), but their Bluez-Alsa substitute is flaky in the extreme. It tries to be automagical but crashes at frequent intervals needing a Pi reboot to fix.

Bluez-alsa is NOT compatible with the old pcm method referenced in my previous post!

Not just emails Dan. Some companies have finally figured out that their pigeon post address lists also fall into that category.

One (to me startling) omission seems to be PayPal. To the best of my recollection they have not done anything so far wrt GDPR, whereas EBay has! However maybe they just concealed GDPR rights within a Privacy Policy update, and did not bother to draw it to my attention.

“... the EU-Commisioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Věra Jourová with the German newspaper “Die Zeit” in which she stated that the GDPR is so easy, even she could implement it, I got very curious and wanted to see how compliant the EU’s websites are.

I think in this case ‘stick pointing’ was a reasonable reaction to a naive boast by the EU spokeswoman.

Imo it was a typical comment by the types of techno-illiterates infesting Governments and law-makers in particular. They only see the easy parts of the problem as that is their area of limited expertise. Form-filling is the easy bit, getting the rest of it compliant can be a bit of a nightmare.

Are the laws on drugs as draconian as they are in Qatar? Crack-head footie fans could find themselves in even greater problems in Qatar. i.e. dead.

From memory you can also get an E-Passport from them that will enable you to securely sign legal papers throughtout the EU. However, I assume that disappears with our Brexit debacle.

Maybe Dave and I have been lucky in applying Kaspersky patches at the right moment, however like you, others have not and the ‘approved’ solution is:

“In a new Firefox tab, type or paste “about:config” in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful. 2. In the search box above the list, type or paste “roots” and pause while the list is filtered 3. Double-click the “security.enterprise_roots.enabled” preference to switch the value from false to true.”

                                    Mozilla link

The only possible downside is that if you already have a malware infection this action approves its root certificate. Damned if you do etc, but better than turning off https security!

Unfortunately Steve I suspect that the law and a jury would not view it in the same way. Although you could plead necessary self defence, you would get stuffed with the ‘proportionate force bit’ and have one heck of a job proving your case, as you would also have to show that you were unable to take avoiding action.  Better to noisily act tough, and then be prepared to run like hell!

In a very schadenfreude way it is good to learn that the Eurofighter has just earned the sobriquet of Flying Turkey II. This time it is neither the Yanks or our MOD that are to blame. In this case it is the German MOD who have managed to cripple their Eurofighter arm through misjudged political moves and ill-judged cost savings. Now where have I heard THAT story before??

Wow – that is a heck of a swing. I reckon reproducibility in readings is around +/-2. The only time I saw anything like that was when the bladder in the instrument started leaking.
