Apparently it can be done with VMWare, but it needs Hyper-V and core isolation to be disabled. Not really a solution for Corporate machines however. I wonder what the impact will be on Dockers, I suppose these are OK as M$ used to support them. If not, there will be quite a lot of unhappy Corporate types!
I think all this probably results in Oracle’s VirtualBox being virtually useless for Win11.
@Wheels you are obviously from the ‘Forth’ generation. I could never get my head around RPN and kept slipping back into normal stack-intensive mode. As a result Forth wasn’t for me, and the same probably applies to XCalc!
I should perhaps have added that while the SMART for a Corsair disk came up ok, the Clear Disk Info was a warning that imminent failure was likely as the Soft Read Error Rate was unacceptably high. I took my own advice and purchased a replacement today!

I used VOIP as a catchall. My guess is that for private customers with wired broadband all that all it will need is a minor change to the WiFi router to add a phone hub, and then to swap line-line phones to ones that can connect to this new phone hub.
JCD, they may offer you a wired broadband connection to replace your telephone wire as they are really moving towards a VOIP replacement for copper. I can see this being a helluva challenge for rural locations however. Even in Southern England we often drive for miles without any usable phone signal. Wales must have that problem in most areas as we had to drive for tens of miles to get a phone signal south-west of Hay on Wye.
Sorry, I have no experience with one. There seems to be a fairly wide choice however, so I;m sure you will find what you want. My only comment would be that of timing. BT is trying to get rid of its wired network within the next year or so to meet a 2025 objective (i.e. broadband/mobile only). They are obviously going to meet resistance from the older age groups and some with a security(?) and other requirements for a wired connection, as a result they may have to come up with an incentive scheme.

I gather that Western have had a major manufacturing upset that has contaminated a very significant proportion of their Flash NAND (which in turn means 6.5 billion gigabytes of the world’s supply has gone down the drain.). If you have a foreseeable requirement for SSD kit, it might be worthwhile pre-purchasing a chunk.
Anti-vaxxers need to be educated that while Covid only kills in a minority of cases, the after-effects can be a real bitch for many. Although vaccination is not 100% effective, apparently it does seem to reduce the cases of Long Covid. Hopefully this means that you should soon get a full recovery.
External Drives and Confession Time – I’ve just wasted 12 hours because I accidentally made an external 8TB hard drive into a 2Gb uefi boot in a stupid attempt to make a recovery disk! Boy what a palaver. I vaguely remembered Dave saying that uefi can make you go through hoops, but I had to do it as I couldn’t afford to lose an 8TB disk.
Cut a long story short, if anyone else makes the same stupid mistake then use GParted, unmount the external drive then erase it followed by partitioning it as GPT. (I could not find this simple method on line, but it must be somewhere!)
In case I put you off by referencing BlueIris, do take a look at the SenseAI introduction as it has far more general application and will kick-start your machine learning experience.
https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/5322557/CodeProject-SenseAI-Server-AI-the-easy-way
Out of the box, the toy application will:
Detect objects in images
Detect faces in images
Detect the type of scene represented in an image
Recognize faces that have been registered with the serviceMore capabilities are planned for this FOSS software that runs completely on your PC (no cloud requirements)
Thanks. It looks like I stick with VMWare as that supports DirectX 11
You are apparently further along in using Hyper-V than me. Have you tried using DDA for GPU passthrough?
Interestingly when I run msinfo32 it informs me that Virtualization Based Security is not enabled, but Hyper-V – VM Monitor Mode Extensions are.
As VBS is reported to screw up games graphics performance I’m not sure that I want it!
Does adding Hyper-V automatically set VBS to enabled?
They do not ‘trust’ an awful lot as every Windows 11 VM has to be encrypted and run under a version of TPM! I was even supposed to encrypt the Linux VMs in preparation for Windows 11 operation though in the end it did not seem to need that step.
Following on from your post I guess I need to explore what benefits the Windows hypervisor adds or subtracts. At first glance, just the virtualization security blanket, but I now need to find if it imposes any limitations on concurrent vm operations.
The other interesting aspect is whether a Hypervisor vm has the same graphics bells and whistles (DX11) or if it is better. If better then it could be that I’ll be able to save money on a future VMWare upgrade to Workstation 17. (I do not bother with VSphere as I’d gain little from networking vms to just two machines)
As you say, currently I am running it as an app in privileged mode, but if I enable Hyper-V it runs within the Windows 11 then it runs in user mode within the Windows 11 security blanket. I have no idea what this would mean except I guess it means that it then runs like a Hyper-V VM.
This article explains the difference (maybe!)

Not sure what you expect to find. VMWare runs as an application within Windows, so it displays no hypervisor activity at system level. Hence no screen shot!
In fact the only VM messages I see are those setting up the VM Network. It only makes an appearance in the Application logs for again setting up the network.
Well done – now we know the Windows interface will not run it without some modifications. I guess one could just copy the dict file from Ubuntu or import the other word link given in the comments, but it really is not worth the effort – as you say it is all just Bash and Ubuntu.
Kunlangeta wants the UK to be like Singapore – well first he will need to learn to write C++ code like Singapore’s Prime Minister!
I do not think kunlangeta even knows what C++ is. He would probably guess that it means ‘F’, as his addition is a bit flaky!
To be honest, I found the VM settings quite confusing as I use VMWare as my hypervisor rather than the Microsoft Hypervisor.
As it was, VMWare Workstation ran ‘out of the box’ under Windows 11 and I made no changes to the systems settings. However I noted that there are quite a number of VM settings I could enable, but they had poor M$ documentation on what additional facilities would be enabled in my situation. I assumed that they really only had value for those running a VM server or using the Microsoft hypervisor on top of their bare-metal Win11 hypervisor. I guess I need to read up on them!
Looks a tad slow to me if I use the Softperfect ramdisk 🙂 !

Actually not one of my timings, but close enough. The image was in fact taken from the Softperfect site in which someone wanted to use a ramdisk as a concurrent screen buffer.
This may actually be something that interests your client (I have difficulty with thinking about a four-screen setup unless it is handling concurrent video streams).
