But we do not have proportional representation, so that is irrelevant.
Farage had only marginal electoral support, and UKIP is plagued by instances of them committing self harm. Just like BoJo they could not organise a booze-up in a brewery.
In any case we will probably have another referendum before we have an election now the second referendum campaign has had a £1MM donation.
OK, but don’t use it to descale your kettle unless you like a fish&chip tea!
The only problem with vinegar is the pong!
If lime-scale is involved then citric acid is my ‘go-to’.
Citric acid is sold for kettle descaling, but you normally pay ££s for just enough to do one kettle. I buy it as food-grade by the 5Kg and use it not only for descaling, but any surface cleaning where acid helps. (I use a tablespoon per kettle for descaling)
You can also (with care) use it in cooking to make your own lemonade etc.
It is a mild acid without any odour but if you have any open cuts it will sting like hell, so treat with caution and do not get any in your eyes!
If it worked OK before and does not now, then unless some ram has failed, I’d suspect a corrupt dot file for the SimpleScreenRecorder. I’d do the following:
a) run a ram test and if no problems:
b) Show hidden files in your Home folder and look for .simplescreenrecorder.cfg or similar, rename it to a .bak file and let Mint reset the defaults for you the next time you run the program.
Backups can use a LOT of space – at least 3 times the storage you are protecting as a rule of thumb. My comment was addressed to local backup (not Cloud). In this situation over time your backups may grow and eventually reach the capacity of your drives and a clean-up is required. (full backups are done every so often and you need to allow for these as well as incremental storage)
Acronis allows you to specify backup chain length, but when you are using incremental backup this does nothing to specify total backup size.
If Acronis had a decent manual backup cleaner in addition to its automatic cleaning, running out of disk space would not be an issue, and file deletion would be accompanied by relinking the backup database. When I was using Acronis 2017 it had no such utility and any manual backup cleaning was to say the least a dangerous exercise as Acronis barfs if it finds any step in the backup chain to be missing. i.e. your backup becomes unrecoverable – Acronis 2012 had no such problems, they only came in when Acronis went Cloudy.
If the size of your changes between backups is small then Acronis may be ok — mine are not.
Cloud MAY also be ok
To cut it short, I dropped Acronis in favour of Macrium.
OK – Googling on THAT particular issue yields that the nVidia chip in the R70 had a problem.
The Live CD uses a very generic vesa driver that is not found in the normal operation of the distro. This tends to give people a misleading impression of what will run.
Linux dropped support on a large swathe of ‘obsolete’ hardware. As a sweeping generalisation you will have problems running on anything pre-2010. This link gives you the hardware supported by Ubuntu. Wayland graphics are however even more limiting requiring graphics acceleration etc. and are probably the first constraint with a 2007 Samsung R70
Yep – nothing like a good clean-up of the files to undo all your careful set-up and possibly backup arrangements.
Acronis have a very stupid incremental backup system and no clean-up utility. Any file cleaning is definitely risky with that (not recommended) software.
Travelodge use Virgin Wifi, so you may need to explore how to use a vpn with them. (For home use it needs a firewall mod so good luck!)
Could well have been ‘age’ that was the problem. Once upon a time Linux could be relied on to support old hardware. Those days are now long gone. You may have been able to use an old version of Windows XP or an old version of Linux that contains the required graphics/mobo drivers. If you get that problem again try running Crunchbang or Puppy Linux distros. You can also get old Ubuntu distros here. Obviously such old distros come with a major security issue as does an old Windows.
Take a look for ‘hidden’ drivers Bob, they can also cause conflicts as old Logitech etc drivers just lurk around waiting to cause conflicts. I guess the nature of USB is to always keep old device drivers handy in order to just plug in without an installation..
Steve, just to correct an apparent misconception, the DLink issue is not caused by wifi, the problem is in the general insecurity of DLink kit allowing a thief to access your router and change the stored default DNS cache, or even the DNS server address. ( The hosts file on your PC is a good example of a DNS cache)
Although obviously a mobile uses wifi to access the router, a wired pc is equally affected.
You could try OpenStreet Map (the Android App version OSMAnd), together with this method. (read section 4 as he starts off using pre-recorded Garmin data — section 4 uses Google maps for its GPS data)
I personally prefer OSMAnd as it has a large quantity of World Maps for a reasonable price, allows full off-line mapping and has a large number of Map add-ons from cycle routes, contouring, Wiki links, (for some reason these are called plug-ins)
Whenever I go off-track on a walking trip I load the OSM map for the region before-hand. (these are quite large maps). About the only area where Google Maps is better is for restaurants in an area (figures!), but in some areas OSM beats Google on pubs — very dependent on a local population of nerd boozers!
Worth a look.
Brexit –> NoExit then and now could be a catch-line for the Beebs latest poll.
No wonder there is so much tension in the Brexiteers ranks, if they force Theresa to the wall, then an Election or new Referendum could be their undesired outcomes.
When you say ‘seems to refresh’, is that a function of page size?
As you are experiencing it across all browsers I suspect that it is an OS issue. e.g. paging file size/fragmentation problems,. In the absence of anything else I’d try cleaning up the page file. Set it to zero, reboot, then run disk clean (especially the system files) and get rid of the old installs/updates. Now reset the page file to something sensible and reboot.
Just use Trip Advisor to look at the route and find B&Bs.
Unfortunately Scotland shares some of the worst aspects of the UK, it is expensive and the weather can be bleeding miserable. When I used to visit Aberdeen all the shivering English expats used to complain that Scotland only had two seasons 14th of July and Winter. (I suspect that the July date was a random one.).
In proof of this they also said don’t go to the Aberdeen Duthie Park Winter Gardens on a Sunday as the Cactus House will be full of Scots reading their Sunday papers and revelling in the ‘free’ heat. They actually were not joking as we wandered along the beach, froze in the Siberian winds and popped into the Arid House to warm up!
September was supposed to have more reliable weather than the summer period.
MY ’10 bit’ sRGB panel is an Asus PB279Q – getting a bit old now and Asus played a dirty game in that any 10bit colours are only achieved through dithering. However even today it is very hard to find a monitor that does better than sRGB
You definitely win the panel prize.
I’m afraid I cannot afford the ColorEdge Monitor I’d like to have!
I thought that the Spanish slugs were ‘good guys’ that ate other slugs rather than green vegetation. I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember a Gardeners Question Time comment to leave the big yellow ones alone, but stamp on the little black ones.
Unfortunately 10 bit colour is obviously better than 8bit colour, but it still leaves >40% of the visible spectrum invisible to the camera/tv. This chromaticity diagram shows indicatively what is missing from 10bit HDR TV. (mostly the deep blues and reds are chopped off. (The triangle indicates the range covered by hgl rec 2020. )
Relative to this, the following table gives the ranking order for how well HDR TVs actually meet the rec2020 spec. link
If you eyeball the colour gamut for these tv sets you will see that not all hdr tvs are born equal!
Wrt HDR photos what you said Wheels was essentially correct. This video shows how to do it (and why ) on the Lumix it also shows some of the ‘nasty’ results that can be obtained with hdr.
