If the photos are > 30 years old then you will almost certainly want to colour correct the blues and greens before archiving. It can be a long painstaking job. Photoshop and Corel Paintshop Pro have plug-ins to ease the pain. Tbh I do not know a cheap/free way of doing it.

Dave the theory is that lonely little Britain will be able to cut better trade deals than the much larger EU market – huh!

In reality it is all about control, and the Rees Moggs of this world wanting to keep the control in their own tight little fists, without big-brother EU raising objections on behalf of the community. As usual with politicians look for self-interest way before that of the electorate at large.

          a) Windows will use any available memory, which means it tends to grab all its allowed on a VM machine.

          b) VMs are i/o hogs, especially if they are using the paging/swap file.

          c) Network activity on a Windows update is always high as every download is verified. Depending on your windows configuration it may also be spending network time looking to see if it can share the verified crud with another windows machine.

          d) If you run two vms simultaneously you may well stretch your PCs i/o capabilities to walk speed (you can sometimes get deadlock situations especially if Debian updates are taking place – Mint etc do not always play well in this situation). Based on info that Dave acquired it appears that if you want to do this regularly you should have separate disks and disk controllers for each simultaneous vm guest.

If you thought that the ‘Turkey’ saga was over, it looks like you were wrong, the F-35 Joint Program Office is busy papering over the cracks and flaws.

… We are the route of all evil in the world don’t you know ?

Not if you have spent a lot of time working overseas. There are probably almost an equal number of foreign nationals who see that Britain accomplished a lot of good things as those that revile us. Britain’s investments in infrastructure are still in use. (Mainly the railways) as are  laws and systems of governance. In comparison with all other colonists (esp Portugal and the US) we are viewed as positively saintly.

However by being a lackey to the US we have probably squandered much of that good will.

Personally I’m looking forward to Code Red’s new game Cyberpunk. If the pre-release game-play is anything to go by it will have real kick-butt graphics as well as a VERY gritty plot line.

Good luck with the C++ course. At first the use of Classes just seems to have a lot of unnecessary overhead and instances of Class re-usability are often sparse, but the concept is worthwhile for organizing your thoughts. I now personally prefer Functional Programming as being closer to C and generally more appropriate for the things I program on a Pi (it also helps with Python). However both have their place as this article makes clear.

Because the Nation no longer needs cannon-fodder the young are no longer subject to the constant jingoistic propaganda that bombarded me when I was young. Today the kids are taught to think for themselves and not to accept presented ‘facts’ without question. I suspect that you will not see any increasing trends in jingoism as today’s generations age.

If that is so another referendum will produce the same result – except it will not.

It is a fact that younger people abstain from voting and older people die. It is also a fact that the greatest support for Brexit was in those over 65. The FT projected that even assuming people continue to ignore all the obvious pro-Brexit lies, by 2021 the vote will be reversed. link

Others have had two referendums on the same issue – in fact Eire did just that at least once with  EU referendums they have held. link

In other words ‘respecting the vote of the British electorate’ is a meaningless phrase based on experiences elsewhere.

It is obvious that Brexit will not produce the benefits promised by the pro-Brexit lot. A second referendum based on a more honest appraisal of the impacts on the economy , jobs and disposable income over  the next ten years is required.

If the country then continues to walk happily down a jingoistic black hole then I’ll be advising my kids to emigrate asap.

My personal favourite for removing things put on with ‘sticky’ materials is Goo Gone. It smells pleasantly of oranges and is very mild in its actions. Unfortunately at £5/bottle it is now a little expensive in the UK as it suffers from the usual £1=$1 rip-off.

I guess attitudes to disposal depend very heavily on Local Authority(LA)  commitments to recycling. Ours is very heavily biased towards minimising landfill and maximising recycling and composting. As a result our land fill wheelie bin volume is on average only 25% full, unlike the almost overflowing recycling. Any waste food is composted in a Swedish designed hot composter which the LA supplied at low cost (<£10 iirc) – this eats everything including dead foxes!

Fine if it goes in Landfill, however you should not try to recycle ‘mixed’ materials such as that.

Although the previous answers are ‘safe’, it depends on your Local Authority, check with their Recycling Group. Ours do not care as they use magnets to pull out ferrous metal, and other methods for Aluminium etc  Yours may hand sort in which case take their advice.

Steve its all about ‘democracy’ whatever that means, and the UK version is one of the worst forms of actual democracy  — It is designed to give the electorate the semblance of power while actually preserving the rule of the Establishment (Yes Minister – 101).

The WTO has just scuppered the ‘Hard’ Brexiteers position on EU trade. If there is no deal then WTO rules MUST be applied equally to all countries i.e a 25% tax on BLTs. As 60% of our food is imported from the continent food prices would shoot up in price and our auto industry would be thrown into disarray.FT Link

Yesterday’s Hard Brexit paper already needs revision!

Correspondingly if no taxes are applied to the EU then every other import must also be tax free! Much as I’d love this situation, it would turn Northern Ireland into a smugglers paradise for Eire — I just cannot see the EU accepting that situation.
