Actually Latin.
Most of the romance languages have Latin roots, that is why you find so many common words between the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
English is a dogs-breakfast taking words from everywhere. Anglo-Saxon being Germanic/Scandawegian
The misses is goona have a word with the IT tech guys from her work soon. er when its ok, er when it goes quite, er never
Use the time to clone the drive! Partition recovery often goes t-up. Take a lesson from the forensics guys, a clone is their first action. Work on the clone as you may need to re-clone!
Articles 4 and 116 are impossible with an open Irish/Ulster border!
Nice to start any statement of principle with a circle that cannot be squared. No wonder Macron referred to it in his threats to break the agreement if there isn’t a fish deal.
[edit] wof I think you have to separate the EU Commission from National Governments. Although the Commission may well have negotiated in good faith, the agreement in no way binds the national governments, who can now veto what they dislike.
Brexit is just plain impractical, as well as a recipe for economic disaster and a break up of the UK.
Like other people I still like the convenience of a wristwatch and the minimal movement required to check the time. My favourite watch is the Pebble Steel with its e-ink screen and >1 week battery life but I recognise when the battery finally dies a new watch will be needed. Having checked around the market I think I am going to go hybrid when that evil day arrives. The Nokia Steel looks nice with a reasonable price point.
I forgot, you need to sign in with an Admin Account to change the Sign-In security setting.
Windows 10 has recently started asking for password every time I start the pc
One of the updates forces that. To change it back look in:
Accounts->Sign-in Options
PLUS
Window Settings->Lock Screen->Advanced Settings
While you are at it check your Privacy Settings, I found that one of the Windows updates illegally changes all the privacy settings to give M$ free rein of your data and lets loose nasty Cordana!
Great news!?
All the best Bob, keep on trucking.
Thanks Lee.
Just to throw in an out-of-the-box idea, take a look at AndyOS and run it in a PC window. My wife uses a different Android Oreo VM to run ScratchJr on her PC ( a full keyboard is the big plus) and teach the grandchildren introductory programming.
[edit] Beware – AndyOs uses VMWare Player 14, which can screw up any vms you have on other vmware releases! If you have other vms then use the Oreo link.
Unless Amazon have played ‘sneaky’ with new Fires it is pretty easy to get the Google Play Store onto a Fire. Example link.
Les I’m pretty sure you are getting no help as no-one here uses Timeshift. Rsync plus a chron job is the way most Linux people would go. There is a list of acceptable backup programs here.
As pointed out by Dave Timeshift only backs-up system files. Very useful to do before a major upgrade or if you have a Trojan and otherwise not much use. Very similar to a Windows System Restore though that is a little more powerful.
Rsync+chron or Fwbackups is the way to go.
Unless we get another referendum this is just the start of two plus years of negotiations. All May has achieved with her vaunted divorce bill is an ‘agreement to agree’ reached by a majority EU vote. Now we will get each individual country holding us and the rest of the EU to ransom as Trade Agreements require 100% sign-in by ALL EU states..
The French will want fish, the Spanish Gibralter, the Germans will want to gut the City of London and maybe even the Danes will want to tie our hands over bacon. Each will be totally self interested. Why on earth the Conservative idiots thought we could cut better trade deals outside the EU I’ll never know – they must be Russian or CIA Agents Provocateur in disguise.
Certainty is the last damn thing we will get.
Like you, I can hear the faint rumble of tumbrils heading in the direction of Mogg, May and the liar in chief.
I previously used Paragon Partition Manager to recover partitions. You could try the free version, BUT it is always worth doing a full disk cloned copy before messing with an HDD. There is rarely an undo on partition software so play safe!
[edit] the other one to try is GParted on a bootable stick. Same caveats apply!

I have an APC UPS (more than one!) and the Powerchute software provided gave me the power consumption. ([edit] I had really toastie hardware that used to keep me warm in the winter!)
From memory I saved about 0.20 kilowatts/hour which translated to about 35 pence/day i.e. about £70/year. My cost of money is about 5% so I figured I could get a £500 payout even without adding annual inflation. Add Leccy inflation and I think that climbs to about £750. If you need one to play with numbers a rate of return calculator is here.
C++ is really a language for team development, or the situations where code sections (objects) are frequently reused/modified and maintained. If you are just programming for yourself and getting into the down and dirty sections (normally graphics programming) that need low-level access, then you may be better off learning Rust.
[edit] To touch my cap at those who venerate the structured object approach of C++. Learning C++ does teach you to ‘objectify’ your programming, but frankly once you have learned that skill you can even apply it to your C coding. C++ makes writing unsafe code more difficult but still perfectly possible!
Boris, you don’t need to install solar panels to save money, just buy a mobo with a recent
IntelPentium SOC.I struck out the Intel bit as when compared with the older chips any modern SOC saves money. When I did an audit of my PCs I found that by upgrading BOTH the GPU and CPU I could get a 5 year pay-out in just Leccy savings (I only took a 7 month saving as the old PC tower used to keep my toes warm!). In fact due to the way the Windmill levy goes up every year, savings are a no-brainer! I emphasised the GPU as these can be real burners of electricity.
I am thinking of buying a C++ programming book. I have my eye on “A Tour of C++” by Bjarne Stroustrup (the creator of C++). Anyone have any views on this ?
Hard graft – probably NOT a good intro book. Don’t laugh but I quite rate’ C++ for Dummies’!
Richard, although I agree with your comments about the tat end of the market, you will be VERY hard pressed to find a high end product where the real guts is not made in China.
Sony is a high-end brand-name and at least 120 of its products are made in China, while Sony Starvis is the across-the-board high-end solution to low light security camera capture, and while I cannot categorically state the chips are made in China I would take a fairly large bet that they are, as China has a near monopoly on CdS chips..
The real difference is that the higher end security cameras ensure that the embedded Linux kernel is fully updated and idiot-proofs the Admin user name and password entries. They also have better written supporting software (much of which is programmed in China)
I think you have to be both quick and lucky to get a bargain. I just obtained VMWare at 45% off but the offer only lasted hours!
Lots of on-line help – just search on using Timeshift. Scanning through the somewhat opaque how-to’s (some talk about backing up to memory!), this one looked the most practical. My guess would be you did not use the ‘filters’ step — typical FOSS to use a stupid term!
