I have not used IM in years but don’t you need both an infile and an outfile for EACH case. I’m not sure what infile is used after the first conversion.

Today  was a day for software installation. I’ll say a little more about that in my next post as there were more than two or three gotchas/poor documentation to work through. However in the end I compiled and installed all the required software.

First point to make is that the pi zero does not appear to have enough horsepower to do the job, reports say that the FIR chip imposes a significant workload on the CPU. The other thing I found (and it may be related) is that the software barfed at resolutions above 640×480. (It may be that a low res OLED screen breakout may solve this and the CPU issue, but I’m not going there at this stage.

I am therefore going to cut my losses for the time being and use a Raspi3B and see how that goes. Course I’ll never know if in fact the zero issues were a compile/install problem, but I do not think that is the case.

More around next weekend. (too many family interruptions in the offing)

I hope that everyone has a great Christmas, Mithras day, Saturnalia, or simple Feast of Excesses – whatever floats your boat!

I’m old enough to remember when images were stored in a cupboard, no upload limit, no possibility of hacking, no clouds, no drives, no Google this or One Drive that. Storage capacity was limited to the number of albums and the size of the cupboard – they seemed to be happy days then!! ???? Happy Xmas and a Prosperous New Year to you one and all. Going back into my shell now! ?

All true, but look back on the 25+ years old ones and their colours will have shifted to the blue end. Scanning and colour correction then becomes quite a big chore.

I’m sorry but anyone who thinks a Hard Brexit is the preferable option is definitely dreaming of pink Unicorns!

Still I suppose I should take comfort that if a Hard Brexit wins the impacts will be so horrible that the Conservatives will never see political power again!

              Postscript

The training was just sufficient to stabilise someone enough to be able to urgently medivac them as the Company was paranoid about the risk of Aids in the local hospitals .

I never did have the guts to ask my boss whether he had been trained – I just did not want to have my suspicions confirmed. . .

One of my jobs involved a lot of ‘bush’ travel in Africa. I should have realised that it was a dodgy number as the preparation for the trips involved me getting pretty close to medical combat training. The full works; including use of styrettes, blood expanders, tourniquets, pain relief etc. Plus a crash course in recognising and applying emergency treatment for Cerebral Malaria. I made the mistake of asking how was I supposed to self-administer blood expander and was told that the training was not for me, but so that I would be able to treat anyone I was travelling with! (car crashes, and running off the road were major hazards).

Glad you sorted it. Those are the moments (especially with Linux) when I worry if I have made the clone in the ‘wrong’ direction!

Could be other things, there is a very nasty flu virus floating around that as usual is not part of the flu-jab program as most people with the fever have also had the jab. The virus starts with painful gastric issues, followed by a streaming nose & sneezing for a couple of days – THEN you get ill! (usual fever symptoms followed by gut wrenching cough followed by lung congestion).

All in all a good one to miss, I hope it isn’t that!

Both the Irish and Spanish have had a second referendum over the same question. IMO a second referendum is akin to having a new general  election when you find out that the winners lied over their election manifesto promises.

If we do finish up with the extremely damaging option of a Hard Brexit, the impact on employment, and wages will be so bad that Labour will sweep the Conservatives into third place in the 2022 election.

My concern wrt the Irish Border is our Government’s seeming reliance on the miracle of modern technology (as implemented by Fast Fail, slowly learn b-all Government IT scrums). For an example see the 100% failure rate of the vaunted use of ‘bleeding edge’ facial recognition to help further cuts in the Police. ElReg Link

Re your preference for a Hard Brexit. Watch the link given by Steve and post why it is wrong! It passes muster as a VERY dangerous negotiating ploy (EU are almost equally hurt) but that is about all.

You will probably slow Windows file searches down a bit especially if you show thumbnails. The Windows ‘Green Ribbon of Death’ is always waiting to strike!

I do not begrudge high salaries for Civil Servants and Politicians provided it is accompanied by intrusive and detailed examination of theirs and their family’s income and assets. Of course if they do anything to move into a grey area they should meet the full force of a law that expropriates all their assets and any unexplained family assets.

This is public Government life ‘Singapore Style’  and goes with painful revelations on all public media – they are all hounded if caught with a finger in the till!

Unfortunately the West isn’t at that point.

Maybe, maybe not. The ATI Rage does not mean much. I suspect in order not to break contracts with major retailers that nVidia use OEM shells when making very large bulk sales to a miner.

I forgot to link the Bitcoin-nVidia price/sales link.

Wild guess – sale by a defunct Bitcoin Mining Company:

These cards are mainly used for Bitcoin Mining, relatively few for gaming.

The Bitcoin market has dropped through the pan, and mining is no longer economic,

nVidia’s stock price has gone down the pan as well due to Bitcoin mining economics.

It was a fire sale, but there may be more!

Sometimes Ubuntu/Mint ‘upgrades’ can be regressive wrt wifi drivers. I do not know why but Ubuntu have this terrible habit of using an ancient (carpy) driver in the place of the newest one.Just a warning that Ubuntu upgrades are not risk free!

If you can get the technical details of the on-board chip it may pay you to see if the chip manufacturer has released a Debian or Ubuntu driver.
