Tbh we are still not sure how it passed planning given you’ll never get an emergency vehicle there in any good time. .
That isn’t really a planning concern, more of a Building Regs point of view.
I suspect that a real emergency would put all the daffs etc at risk.
My Fire Brigade mate’s response to people blocking emergency access is: ‘Fsck-em and their fancy cars, my big rig and a touch of aggressive driving will bash aside most obstructions in a real emergency’ . However, I think that he was thinking of Beemers or fancy sports cars rather than trucks.
Great news Bob, but one step at a time!
It is probably still worth avoiding crowded places. There is some really nasty crap around that nearly kills you but is ‘only’ a cold even though it causes shivering etc, but as it does not give you a fever it does not tick the GP’s flu box.
I won’t debate the macro’s either but I will say that we can set subsidy’s suitable for our own economy if we just leave.
Just perhaps a fact you should note, export subsidies are not something you can apply willy-nilly as they can in fact be illegal under WTO anti-dumping rules (you cannot sell below cost for example). Also subsidies would have to be applied very quickly by our creaking bureaucracy to avoid the Channel ports being blocked by decomposing Welsh lamb!
As always the Devil is in the detail that is why this subject is too difficult on which to make accurate statements.
Yes we could for example access a flat payment to each Welsh farmer to support them back to CAP plus EU grants level, but they would need at least part of that next month which would mean another DWP style disaster in the making. Someone would also need help in quickly finding an alternative outlet for all the lamb. Our broken democracy cannot act quickly enough to set up and pay such schemes this year, and maybe not even next year. That is the hard reality of crashing out without a deal – some people will suffer life changing/threatening hurt.
It would need a ‘Yes Minister’ ‘brave and bold’ politician (or perhaps Bojo) to brush aside any resulting concerns and their impacts on the next election!
About 11 or 12 years ago, they were going to install Solar PV panels, as the Close is South facing. Landlord paid for a Survey, Survey said YES. Then the government stopped the Grants for it and our Solar Heating died the death.
You were Blaired to, but that is not unusual for either LA or LG. The grants have been progressively reduced but ten years ago I would guess that you or your landlord would have received a 10-12% return on investment which would still be coming in and continue for a while yet.
Each year a pot of money was made available by Central Government for such grants. OK that pot could disappear , but a new slightly smaller pot would appear the next April. Unfortunately today the FIT grants for SolarPV are not worth a lot, but still give a better than average, low risk return. I’m not sure which parts of the country the quoted return applies but I would be astonished if you got much in (say) Newcastle, but are certainly not far off for Bristol, and points to the south.
I’m sorry but if anyone thinks the route we are now set on will leave us economically better off than would a hard Brexit I am certain they are wrong.
I will not debate the macro economics as neither of us have enough hard information on the impacts on our existing exports to the EU. What I would say is that there would be huge economic and social impacts on certain sectors of the UK economy. Sheep farmers for example.
Yep watching pigs slipping and sliding in their own filth is often funny, especially when they are all shipped off to the abattoir at election time.
Just shows that Democratic Elective Dictatorship is a really poor idea.
Theresa will soon be back to the commons yet again, with her tattered deal (as nothing can stop her except her Cabinet) saying if you back my deal I’ll only ask for a small extension, otherwise I’ll request that we delay Brexit for two years to allow us time to do many other things.
Nothing is over until the ‘fat gaudy May-frog croaks’!
Once you have it all cleared up You need to find out WHY it keeps crapping out as Linux has a very stable file system
a) Do you get the occasional messages that make no sense about you running out of disk space, and you ignore them as it appears you have plenty. This is the bug that Lee highlighted. root can run out of space despite their being plenty elsewhere. This can screw up your drives. Use the script I posed earlier to fix.
b) If a) raises no Red Flags then one of your F1 watching programs may have a memory bug that allows it to write where it shouldn’t. As Dan will say ‘This cannot happen’ but you need to check your Kodi forums to see if others have issues.
OK as the saying goes read the RTFM or in this case the Linky I posted earlier in the thread.
You basically need to start in B) Advanced options.
Just work through all the options one by one in turn, and WAIT until it completes (if more than ten minutes use ctrl–C), repeat until each section is completed. In your case ensure you do not miss out Grub.
You should skip the options netroot and root as these would just be plain dangerous for your use, and finish once you have cleaned grub.
[edit] – you are too quick to throw away good money – the SSD is fine. When a SSD fails it is as responsive as a brick. If you want reassurance run a SMART test on it, once you have got the OS back up.Once you have it cleaned up it may be time for you to check if you are using some funky software that is playing low level games in your system. Check the web for reports of bad behaviour with Ubuntu or Mint.
The Irish already recognise that a Hard Brexit means hard borders around the EU, and a resurgence in IRA activists – re the three ineffectual letter bombs are warnings.
{Edit] UK exports are limited by logistics to a small number of crossing points. Ireland has around 200 road crossing points, and both Ulstermen and Irish To put smart tech on all these points is just not economically practical. In any case given the tendency of the Irish in general to flout rules every man and his dog would be seeking ways to graft a few pounds/euros and you would need smart tech that handle agricultural product – are you sure that these bright yellow chickens came from the UK?.
A rare lady Bob, she obviously has you completely sussed. One thing I know is that I will never understand women.
If I get SWMBO talking about (say) a shopping trip, it will randomly flip threads and I can never understand the linkage until much later. e.g. Shopping, she will suddenly flip to a Manc friend’s son.
The missing links for me were recent Irish(?) Letter bombs Brexit, IRA, Bombings, Arndale Shopping Centre. Manc friend and her family. It was not until well after the conversation finished I finally managed to pull together a plausible linkage chain of things buzzing through her head.
Good luck Dan!
One lesson from life that I have had Is that women love taking about themselves and get bored rather quickly if it comes around to you.
The symptoms do not entirely match what Lee suggested, but he is quite correct kernel updates take a heap of spece and cause problems.
I always use this scary script (use sudo to launch) every couple of months to clean up. Sorry I cannot attribute an author despite its usefulness.
dpkg –list | grep linux-image | awk ‘{ print $2 }’ | sort -V | sed -n ‘/’
uname -r‘/q;p’ | xargs sudo apt-get -y purgeCopy and paste it into the text editor then save it as something like kernelclean.sh
March 11, 2019 at 11:47 am in reply to: Read First if flying on a Boeing 737 Max–or maybe not! #31509Ethiopia Airlines were my airline of choice in East Africa as they had a safety record up with the stars. I’d stick my chin out and say that there is something most definitely wrong with the 737 MAX. I for one will not be flying RyanAir as a result!
Ok It could not find the grub boot partition. If you still have it in that state try following the instructions I referenced.
If ever you are prevented from getting to your urgent (a key word to use) hospital appointment ring the Police. While normal parking issues are outside their remit they should attend and deal with it when it becomes a personal safety issue It may take them a while to do so as they normally have a limited amount of appropriate gear to tow etc offending vehicles – the plus is that they will levy costs on the offender – normally a couple of hundred quid. If the Police have a relationship with the local parking enforcement people you may have a bit of a chase around. But it should still work.
btw.they will do naff all if you are just prevented from getting home.
When it ‘failed’ did it drop you into a command line sequence? You can get to a similar place if you hold down shift while booting. This (Single User Mode) has all the tools you need to do fsck etc. (it says Ubuntu but Mint just pinched these low level operation.
It was seen Duke but Brexiteers had their fingers in their ears and sang a deafening a chorus of ‘ Its all FUD’.
Unfortunately it will take a very brave car company, and lots of our dosh to do a 180 in such a environment.
That is not an SSD failure. If it was you would get nada.
That sounds to me like a failure in the file partition table, probably caused by someone pulling the plug on the PC instead of shutting down properly. Linux uses write-behind technology to speed up file responsiveness, but it does need care during shutdowns.
I would recommend you clean up your file structures from time to time. I leave you to learn how to access and use fsck in root. (a bit fiddly as you have to umount your file system.
For those with mobility problems, maybe a cruise will suit?
Unfortunately although I love the sea SWMBO has been known to throw up on the Grand Union Canal!
