Most people treat the EU elections as a necessary farce. I doubt if many other than ardent Brexiteers will bother to turn out

How on earth do the Brexiteers avoid the practical problems of striking a deal with the 27, if they thoroughly pee them off before hand? Equally why would anyone give a better trade deal to the UK rather than the far larger EU?

Forget Services – Banks and other Financial Services have already cut their own deal, which essentially preserves the status quo with the EU.

You probably have some old DRM files of Cyberlink floating around. It may be a good idea to research ‘total removal’ for Cyberlink. McCrappy and Bloated Norton used to have similar problems in leaving lots of old baggage around. Then reinstall your purchase.

If I had to guess I’d start with the Registry but that can be a difficult area as often the problems are hidden by a CLSID.

Unfortunately in many cases gambling is no more than a tax on the foolish. In my younger days

I used to serve at a racecourse and was friendly with a number of trainers who used to warn me off betting on certain horses. Not that they had been drugged, just given a very large meal of oats and water to slow them down. It put me off gambling for life!

Frankly I do not believe that most knew why they were voting leave other than Bojo’s lies, and a racist anti-immigration  Farage poster. 85% of these voters would not even know what a Customs Union entails.

You are correct, I did mean the EU election, and doing away with that will halt any Farage momentum. Other than rabid anti-EU types, most would be happy with a Customs Union – especially the DUP.

Imo the most probable outcome of these elections will be to frighten a lot of Conservative and Labour MPs. This could bring urgency to them finding a Brexit compromise which both avoids an EU referendum and emasculates the whole rationale of the so-called Brexit parties.

In a previous life a large part of my job was dealing with members of the TGWU which later became Unite. I will agree with BL that apart from a few area convenors/Trotsky shites  most were very honourable Union representatives who only had their members interests at heart. I had a very healthy relationship with our local reps in that both of us recognised the need for a formal confrontational war dance around an apparent negotiating sticking point followed by a reconciliation where all parties became chums again.

The only downside was my becoming very cynical about politics in general as it opened my eyes to what went on in the world of politics in general.

I think the results basically say a plague on both your houses, democracy in the UK is broken so we will vote for parties that support PR.

While you are there see if anyone knows where the Trellech Treacle Mines are situated! (They are somewhere near the stones.)

The area is on the edge of the Monmouthshire Coal Fields, and the ‘mines’ are apparently a natural molasses seep formed when coal precursors are ‘cooked’ underground, but my old Geology teacher could never find them.

I was made redundant at 60. Tbh I was completely burned out having spent the best part of the previous 15 years in airliners going from place to place over most of Africa, mainland Asia and the Middle East. Jet-setting is definitely a young persons job. As a result I vowed to pretty much eliminate air travel and turned down the consultancies I was offered. Instead I took the volunteer path and finished up being just as busy as I was in full time occupation – but without all the jet-lag!

One word of advice re-volunteering, avoid being Secretary or Treasurer for an organization, as you will finish up being almost solely responsible for getting anything done – 95% of the population just sit back on their nether ends and criticise. The Committee will welcome you with open arms as sometimes such jobs are thankless but very difficult to find anyone mug enough to step in to replace you.

Make the most of your retirement you and your wife have some golden years ahead. Just count your blessings you were not hit with it when you were 50, as that hits both with lack of prospects and lack of income but all the financial burdens. I have genuine sympathy for anyone in that position.

I’m not disagreeing with the thrust of previous posts, but isn’t this all about obtaining full disclosure from the aggrieved party?

I would hazard a guess that there is no requirement in law for the aggrieved person to volunteer to submit their phones or any other evidence that may assist the defence. I’d also guess that such evidence could only be obtained through a subpoena. The reported facts probably only arise due to these constraints.

(I’m not a lawyer so I’m guessing like crazy in these respects)

It is a difficult situation.(I have used gender neutral language as I believe there is a significant percentage of cases where the males are victims and the perpetrators are female, and obviously there are homosexual rapes as well.)

I can see the problem if a victim states that they had absolutely no prior contact with the individual then there is an understandable reluctance to lay their personal life out naked (so to speak) to third parties. In this case I do not see why the victim should not just give their telephone provider permission to search for any contacts made between the two phones. If no contact in the prior 90 days then there should be no need for the police to ask to search the victim’s phone. I do accept that social media is quite different and may need a new requirement for Facebook etc to provide information on any 1:1 contact between the two.

On the other hand there have been far too many alleged rape cases where the parties know each other and it appears that the victim is seeking revenge for being spurned or something. The accused then has a devil of a job to prove innocence if there has been any sexual contact during that period. A nightmare situation for the innocent person. This is equally a nightmare situation for any person who has actually been raped, but I think that justice demands that all available evidence be examined.

Supposedly there will be no ‘Conservative’ platform for the EU election, which I guess means there will be no official Conservative candidates. This means that Nigel is going to have to be really careful that his MEPs do not screw up things for future negotiations.

If instead instead Theresa throws a hissy fit and there is a General Election the recent impact of the Far Right Vox party must have a lot of Tories worried, as their ‘first past the post’ system fractured the Right and allowed in a (minority) Socialist Government. It is a clear warning what could happen in the UK.

Tippon, the 4K label for TV is a much abused one. At the bare minimum it is just the resolution of 4096×2160, and many cheap 4K TVs will only do that. 4K only starts to come into its own when you add 10bit colour into the equation as that adds extra realism to the scene. Some TV manufacturers also add in a pseudo HDR correction that allows (say) a better definition of objects in an unlit night-time scene.

Tbh most of the stuff I view is just upscaled normal TV and 4K adds only a minor element, it is only in footie or similar that the extra definition of 4K comes into its own. Only a few films take full advantage of the extra definition and colour depth of 4K Ultra HD  – Life of Pi was one.

However, Ultra 4K does add extra enjoyment when it comes to 4K PC gaming.

I must be missing something, when I read the specs for the 1030 the max resolution is only 1920×1200. I’m not sure that a ‘very cheap’ 4K card exists at the moment.

You need a card capable of doing HDMI 2.0 unless in the unlikely event your TV has Display port. (You will also need a relatively expensive HDMI 2.0 cable). The cheapest nVidia I could find was the P400

There is probably an equivalent AMD but I have not looked very hard for a 4096×2160 resolution and HDMI 2.0.

Using CGI, this would make a great remake today. Come on, BBC, it would make Doctor Who look sick!

I agree, but for a cash-strapped Beeb the problem is money and foreign income as CGI is still very expensive. As a result, any remake would have to pander to a US Public Service Broadcast  audience and need a few Americans in leading roles along with maybe a Chinese and an Indian person. The roles of villains would as usual be reserved for Brits! I have a feeling that it would change the character of BS7 more than somewhat. ?

As Dave says it is ‘Linux’. Ubuntu/Mint also frequently breaks wifi drivers during their updates, regression in drivers to old non-working varieties used to be a frequent problem. There can sometimes be solutions if you know the wifi chip that is being used. With the name you can get to their site and search for any up-to-date Linux drivers they provide.

You can as you found out then get dongles that work on the Pi’s different architecture but not on PCs even though both use Debian based distros.
