My mate who was a security professional of the ‘bang shoot dead’ variety stated that security always has to be appropriate to the task. Lock something down 100% and the insiders will start to break open the security and normally in ways that makes them or the installation harder to protect. By definition this also meant that it was necessary to detail the task and the malefactors.

I would learn some skills in diplomacy, and get Farage to publicly read the riot act to his loonies.

Even if the crazy hard Brexit comes to pass the UK will need to try and convince each of the 27 countries that the UK can be trusted and would make a good partner. Unless that is achieved you can forget any talk of rationality by the EU as any one country can throw a hissy fit and veto the trade deal. I do not think I have to draw pictures of what would follow from such a scenario.

I don’t think the week long anarchy of Stonehenge would be possible any more.

The police are so short of resources it probably would be possible provided it was well organised.

If any of your customers are bleeding edge IoT users I can see that they REALLY will need support judging from this Zipato screwup which could leave them locked out of their office etc., or all their LED lights flashing to the rhythm of The Clash!

I guess you need a domain and AD to support all your IoT customers. You may be interested in this FREE O’Reilly book.

“In this free ebook, Oracle’s Laurent Gil and Recorded Future’s Allan Liska look at the strengths (and limitations) of AI- and ML-based security tools for dealing with today’s threat landscape—including quickly identifying threats, connecting attack patterns, and allowing operators and analysts to focus on their core mission. You’ll also learn how managed security service providers (MSSPs) use AI and ML to identify patterns from across their customer base. It’s not Robocop—but it’s getting closer.”

Too complex for my simple needs but I guess if you have a load of customers with unknown insecure practices it may become important.

Run them through Irfanview.  It has a great batch option that allows you to resize, change formats and a myriad other things.

I think that you may be mixing up economic theories with institutes of learning. I’ll accept that the ruling theory in the 70s and 80s was Keynesian, this then gave way to the now discredited pure monetarism of the Thatcherite period, and then gave way to the post-Keynesian theory in vogue used by Brown’s disastrous ‘Light Touch’ in which economies were grown by circulating money without too many constraints. The financial crisis changed all that and opened an era of international cooperation – work together or sink together seemed to be the watch word. The US seemed to be heading back towards a New Keynesian model in which US growth would drive the world economy – Trump appears to have sunk all that as well as any international cooperation.

[edit] I should perhaps have explained that ‘New Keynesiasm’ tries to comprehend that people are not rational and that financial crashes can occur. It therefore differs in important ways from Classical Keynesiasm.

To the best of my knowledge the Treasury model is an in-house model and has nothing to do with LSE. If they rely on input from anywhere I would guess that the business schools of London and OxBridge plays the biggest roles. At least that was the situation in the 1970s and 1980s. (London Business School has no direct connection to LSE)

The Chancellor has the benefit of a lot of staff and a program simulating the UK economy. I think I would trust him rather than BoJo and a man whose initials should be JC rather than JH., both of whom are trying to bribe their way into the top job with buckets of cash none of which came from their pockets or suffering!

It is definitely worth getting a gun, they are not overly expensive and well worth the angst of trying to hammer staples without turning a thumb and finger dark blue!

My personal recommendation would be to go for a hand-gun that handles a reasonable range of staples as you will be surprised the range of jobs that can be covered. However, I am a bodger by nature so keen DIY folk may have better ideas.

[edit] I personally think u-staples are fugly by comparison with flush staples.

Make a frame work around the wire using pieces of picture framing (just looking for the rebated x-section so any rebated wood would do). Liberally hot glue the wire to the frame or staple it, then hot-glue the wooden frame in place. All this was to conceal the staples. Of course if you do not care about appearance just staple it in place.

If you have never used a staple/nail gun do try – it is amazing how quickly you can lash things together e.g. left over wood and plastic sheeting makes a great teepee for the grandchildren!

Brexit cretins have turned their backs during the EU National Anthem. Perhaps someone should point out to these NF idiots that is a REALLY GREAT way to start any negotiations!.

If you plan on fitting the fan shim then plan on having to do a bit of plastic nibbling on the fan unit as otherwise the shim and fan will not fit neatly together. (Not a great advert for the UK company that makes the kit, I expected better!)

US tax law on selling homes is complex but normally there is zero tax if you buy a new house of equivalent or higher value.

Your post reminded me that I should pull my finger out and do the hated tax return. My experience is that HMRC are very quick for returns submitted before July.

Some years ago one evening in Crete my wife was stung on the ankle by a 2-3″ scorpion. It made her cry out in pain, and my know-it-all elder son (9 at the time) took great pleasure in informing her that she would be dead within hours! (she of course survived with just a swollen foot)

My friend’s role was as a complete bystander in the Southern relationship disaster as his division of Govia had previously reached an amicable settlement apart from a Cassandra-like forecast of problems with the new timetable due to Govia not scheduling in the extra manpower required for route-learning time. This was despite a doubling in route length. (Drivers are supposed to learn *exactly where each signal is, and their function, what to do in emergency etc. From memory this takes each and every driver a month or so). It did however open my eyes to Greyling’s malign role in it all, and how he could set impractical rules for Govia that made any settlement all-but impossible. (Govia carried the can for Ministerial interference, but were kept whole financially at tax payers expense)

*I assume that this is a belt and braces in case of a night-time signal failure as they do have some proceed with caution steps that they can take in some circumstances. – this is the total limit of my knowledge gleaned from chats in the pub and is probably quite inaccurate!

The Crossrail/Elizabeth line dispute was something quite different but doubtless Greyling played a malign role as this was contemporary with the Southern dispute. We would need an FOI to check this, but it would be refused on the usual get-out of ‘commercial’ grounds.

As I’m sure everyone knows, all the ‘security’ palaver was Trump trade bs and things are moving back to normal. link

Of slight interest is that the day before Trumps grand gesture, Apple announced that they were closing Mac Pro production in Austin Texas and moving it all to China! In a sop, Apple said that the Pro would include a few US made components. link

Richard if you read the link the strikes were just about money as Crossrail Controllers were paid less than their counterparts.Anyone who has dealt with Unions knows that it is a managed dance between Management and the Stewards, if Management are not allowed to participate in the dance then a strike is certain.

Based on my personal acquaintance with a Rail Union Convenor for part of Govia,  blame rests almost entirely on Greyling and the DoT setting inflexible and silly negotiation parameters, and a management incapable of dealing civilly with their Unions.  I’d therefore put Greyling at the top of any blame list.
