So we all agree then that the EU is no better than Westminster or vice versa. One big difference of course is that we can kick out the crew in the HoC if we want but can’t the EU Overlords. That does it for me.
Not true:
“The Commission as a whole can be removed by a two-thirds ‘censure vote’ in the European Parliament.”
Admittedly We could not remove anyone, we would have to work with the other MEPs to remove the Commission then elect new ones. But that restriction on accountability applies ten-fold to our Civil Service where it is nigh on impossible to remove an incompetent person.
Scratchy all-wool ‘Utility’ vests and pants that were a torturers dream for the irritation they inflicted on the wearer.
I cannot permanently change my lock screen on my user account, it keeps reverting to the default no matter what I do or what lock screen program I use. I guess I could edit the Registry but I cannot be bothered to find the necessary clsid.
The Admin account and the Windows Account (windows password, user attributes) both work in the expected manner.
Usual crap about democracy when we do not even have it in the UK!
In any case there has NEVER been a pure democracy that lasted more than five or six generations and even the leading Yanks think pure democracy sucks. Any system where the idiot many out vote the knowledgable few has a fundamental flaw at its heart. If you find the word knowledgable unacceptable then you can substitute any of the areas where inter-personal antagonism/envy takes place for ‘knowledgable’ e.g. money, power etc.
The Spartans probably had the best system in which something had to be contributed (military service) to the State before being allowed to vote, but even that failed.
Marketing puff or more like bullshit perhaps?
It appears to be by extension of baboon diet, but the crushed up grain has been found in Ancient Egyptian Funerary objects. I don’t think it was marketing puff originally but it probably now rides on the back of the ‘paleo’ diet.
The licorice sticks were no-name brand and had zero sugar in them and so were off-ration – they were pure root licorice extract (so-called Spanish Licorice), and at that time best made into a drink by pouring boiling water over them.
If you research Tiger Nuts they were apparently a Spanish Neanderthal staple! (not sure how that was established as a fact)
If we are reminiscing – Tiger Nuts and Liquorice sticks (both I think came in from Spain).
Both were off-ration and ‘sweet’, something sugar-starved kids craved. I actually managed to purchase some tiger nuts recently and they definitely were not as stripy, sweet or plump as the ones I remember getting for a penny as a small child. ‘Nuts’ is a misnomer as they are in fact tubers like tiny potatoes.
Not your problem I know, but I once had a mobo that was mounted on a two part tray and the trays in turn were mounted in the pc case. Unless I carefully torqued up all the mounting screws I would be guaranteed to get failures. To this day I’m not sure what caused the failures — earth loops were in vogue but I suspect it was the bad connections as referred to by Richard.
Are you certain that the mobo cannot be distorted when screws are tightened? It need not be fans that are getting jammed but it could be you are just partially unseating push-in connectors and causing bad contacts.
My initial reaction was distortion – screwing up tight distorted something and causes a moving part to foul something. e.g. a fan gets fouled then blows a soft fuse. The other possibility is the screws are too long and are shorting/grounding something when tightened.
I discovered one other issue – the metal watch bands are sized for Chinese males i.e. much slimmer than Caucasians. My wrists are those of a pen-pusher not a weights trainer and the band only just goes around on the largest setting. Anyone who does upper body training would probably not be able to use a metal band.
Or perhaps not so soft with BA whose show of other people’s privates has got the GDPR folk hopping mad, with a proposed pricy bill.
That was using the new EU scale of fines which are based on a percent of annual turnover. BA got off light for their stupid India outsourcing. It could have been as much as £500 million. If they rerun the Facebook case it could be billions!
A quick Google shows that specific tools exist but the better ones probably cost money. I’m sure Dan has investigated these so the only reminder I would give would be to emphasise the importance of doing a full bit copy of the disk before trying to recover it. Failed recoveries can really screw things up beyond repair.
Indoors the ad photo is 100% accurate, however in full sun the analogue watch face is great but the ‘smart’ black area is illegible just like my Android phone. It is a great shame the smart bit is not e-Ink as that works best in full sun. Other than that the watch does what it says on the tin. It is just fine with respect to the usual fitness apps plus pulse rate and messaging other phone alerts. Messages are very abbreviated and small font which I can handle but SWMBO cannot read.
The only criticism I have is the watch setup, it requires the Withings fitness phone app to be fully installed but for some reason it would not accept my Google credentials without a lot of messing around = 3 out of 10 for phone setup ease.
I’ll let you know as I decided to let SWMBO buy it for me as my Anniversary present. It ticks the box for the functionality I need, and I do like the conventional watch format. Problem is that I now need to get her a reasonable present!
Richard, actually my friends comments were applicable to the IT situation, (despite his, at the time IRA focus), and that different responses were necessary for different people.
e.g. Just visiting – basically need to lock out completely and handle DDOS (not much of a problem in my day)
Guest – Basic authorities only, but they are through the big steel shutters so need to ensure elevation of privileges is handled.
Users – Layered by function etc. etc.
I will not belabour it, but the examples give you a feel for what he was trying to get me to focus on. In fact it is very similar to M$’s basic authority levels plus a bit.
Thanks, those were useful comments that made me focus on what I wanted. i.e. not much on the watch as I would have the phone, but something easy to glance at that would jog me to look at the phone if necessary.
That pushed me to looking at the Withings brand, as I get battery life but still get the minimum messaging I need. I just hope that it isn’t another Pebble situation down the road, but they survived Nokia so maybe its ok.
It may have been easier to follow the extremely turgid write-up if the essential diagrams were not 404’d!

Based on Steve’s advice I have switched to using wifi enabled rgb lights as these also give the ability to schedule lights when we go away etc. These are however more expensive than the plain whites. The range I have been using are Lumiman coupled with the PlusMinus Android app.
I was not so happy with LEDHut however as they seemed to use Chibay sources as bulb shrouds etc often detached when trying to fit a bulb.
