Bob – unfortunately my county council has not had the reputation for being above board – though how it is now I’m not certain but probably a lot better I believe/hope!

Sometime ago, and I had a similar problem using an adapter on a mobo DVI to something or vice vice versa – the book with the mobo said that it would not operate with adapters only direct to the screen. Not sure if this is your problems here but might be worth a check.

Ed P “. P&CCs must be the most stupidly expensive and totally useless idea ever!…”
You won’t get any arguments from me on that comment.
Remember years ago going to one particular Com Council – F there had spectacle lenses thicker than many deep sea ROVs would have, showed me photos of drug dealings on top of the spire in the local primary school! Once they wanted a drugs officer (DO) there to tell them about drugs, the local officer was on leave so another took his place and myself as being responsible for the area. Because there were 3 police officers there that night, it was a clear indication of the drugs problem in the village!! Some were so naive that when the DO spoke about drugs they were unable to understand what he meant – so many actually believed that ‘drug users’ would ask their supplier ‘got any drugs?’ FRIGHTENING!!

I had to deal with community / town councils when I was in the police – mainly in rural Anglesey. Afterwards a report would have to be sent to my DHQ which would commence “At time, date and place I attended at XX Comm Council. Then the spiel of what was discussed – ALWAYS the same topic just in different orders! My concluding sentence was always “that I did not expect them to be any wiser but possibly better informed” I still stand by that today! But I suppose that SOMEWHERE in the UK there has to be a few competent town / parish councils, just that I have never come across one!

Ed P ” .. They soon come to realise that they are just taking the blame for Central Government’s many inadequacies and stealth taxes. ..”
Agreed but they earn nice wages and decent allowances to boot. The biggest mistake and I think it was Thatcher who made it, was to introduce Cabinet style local authorities where C Execs now, in many areas, earn well over £200K+.

” … and constraining (strait-jacket + gag?) the DofE.”
Not so easy – me thinks!!
Just seen now that the driver / passenger (the one with the injured arm) in the Kia is very unhappy at the decision. Understandable but it happens each and every day.

Politics – local or otherwise frightens me – I look at some that govern us!!
The Welsh Government negotiated a contract so that Pinewood Studios Wales could take up a new base somewhere in South Wales – they (WG) paid £5M for the property then found out that the roof needed £1M spent on it – oh yes and by the way – there was something about VAT adding £50k/pa to the total bill, then from memory it turned out not to be suitable for film use – I can be corrected on this. The audit committee or similar have decreed that the WG did not have the necessary expertise to negotiate with such companies!! (Can’t find it on the BBC Wales news site)
Anglesey – we were to have a new nuclear power station at Wylfa – some of our local politicians went out to Japan for a jolly – I’m not certain if anyone of them was qualified in the nuclear industry – I suspect not. Hitachi put it on hold – TRAGEDY – jollies over!! ?
We are also told the our negotiators on the UK/EU Brexit negotiations were also lightweight compared to what the EU had.
I strongly suspect that the only man who ever entered parliament with the right idea was Guy Fawkes!

Planeman I gather from your comment that you are not a Royalist, be that as it may, in the vast majority of similar accidents involving the elderly, removing them from the road is the best cure. Are you saying that the DofE should have been prosecuted because he was the DofE? Surely his position in tbe R/Family should not be a governing issue in prosecution or not.
The only person in the UK that is above the law is HM and I am pretty damned certain she makes certain that she remains within the UK laws at all times – unless you can show differently?

I would imagine that the vehicles are hired / leased to the R/Household – though I don’t know. Just imagine on the V5 having HM as previous keeper – probably add a few ££ to the selling price! Don’t know if it still applies these days but there was a time when you could lodge ££mega with Lloyds which covered you as insurance. Probably cheaper to pay by instalments these days! ?
Take whatever I say with 2 paracetamol for the next few days!!

Yes sorry, got the flu, head not too good at the best of times even worse these last few days. Come around to my H/A and beat me to death for the error – it would be a relief!! ?

Ed P – Yes I did note the comment in your last post but if the offending vehicles driver / company owners do go their insurance route, their insurance company will find it very easy to find yours. It COULD be a matter that your insurance co might call ‘failing to disclose relevant matters’ and currently with all insurances etc. on connected databases the non-disclosure might be recorded for the future.
Dave
Can’t see what the problems is in this respect?

Ed P – no I disagree though some will never be persuaded – there was nothing to be gained by a prosecution, it would not be in the public interest, the vehicle would be fully compliant with all requirements as to insurance etc. etc. Tragically the occupants of the Kia were injured thankfully not too seriously and insurances will sort that out.
Many such accidents happen daily and end up with the exact same result – in fact I would say that the Duke’s case would have been subject to greater scrutiny than many others.

I think you will find that somewhere in your insurance policy clauses that you will be required to inform them that you have been involved in an accident though your car was parked and unattended at the time. The question is “have you been involved in an accident?” not “have you been involved in a blameworthy accident?”
Hiding things from your insurance company is never a good idea especially if the other side are dealing with it through theirs.

QED!

The word ‘politican’ and ‘truth’ are never found in the same sentence.
Just to go back to the Brexit debate – might it not have been better if May had gone in with a coalition of all parties at the outset as this is something what will affect the UK for decades to come. At least then we could blame the whole lot of the shysters as opposed to factions in each party!

The answer is very obvious – READ THE SMALL print – however home many homes these days have electron microscopes?

BMX MPV – Ooooooopppppppppppppppps – please read as BMW MPV!!
Unfortunately though your ‘pride and joy’ may be worth a mint to you, the bottom line with the ins co. is value – a 40 year old Ford Cortina in pristine condition has a bottom line value – that’s what it is worth to the ins co. Though I have to admit I have no idea how they value ‘classic cars but am aware of classic car insurances which may be different, a ‘bog standard car’ has a bottom line even in showroom condition. To the ins. cos. it the value to them and not the value of the car to you.

” … As election day or second referendum day draws closer this helps modify how political parties set out their policy…..”
Policies are meaningless, how often in general elections do we hear (irrespective of your political colours) parties offering what everyone wants to hear, then once in government such promises disappear quicker than snow on the equator?
The ambition / intention of any politician / political party is to allow you (the electorate) to get what they want!!

There’s a new book coming out soon – ‘Teach yourself Policing’.

The above gives details of what to do. However in practical terms one would have to decide whether, under the circumstances, the offending driver, could have been aware of the accident – really this is a matter of fact from the scene. At one time the police did deal ‘properly’ with accidents but then realised that for £70 any insurance company got the full works of the incident at a very, very cheap rate – they stopped it and I can’t really say that I blame the police for this.
Technically the offending driver should have stopped and given his details to ANYONE who was present at that time – even if it was the local vicar, failing that he should have reported it to the police. It hinges initially – if the driver was aware of it. To be honest about 18 months ago I witnessed a bus hit a parked and stationary BMX MPV as it pulled out to go down a one way street!! Bus drives think they own the roads and are Gods thereon. When the police spoke to the driver ON THE PHONE (!!!!) he stated that he was aware that he had hit something and thinking it was only a roadside fence drove off. The police said that despite this they did not believe he could have known about it (bow locks – his bus at the rear bounced outwards!!). In the end the bus co. insurance paid up. Unfortunately that is the way of the world these days – just let the insurances get on with it. Far less aggro for you, and tbh I suspect that the insurance companies will do a far better job than the police (I’m very sorry to say!!).
