Motoring is a dangerous ‘game’ for both the pedestrian and car user – what we need is more ‘common sense’ but as someone said to me years ago ‘common sense ain’t so common any more’ – so true.

Unfortunately a large proportion of accidents are caused either by negligence or inattentiveness by a road user and unfortunately the human body does not have a ‘reset’ switch! The attitude we need to get rid of is the ‘it won’t happen to me-ism’ in all ages and users.

A few months ago on Rhuallt Hill on the A55 Expressway in North Wales they introduced AS Cameras – in the first month or so they were active but not fining the motorists – several cars were clocked at 125++ mph and it is downhill.  Yes it’s a good dual carriageway but 125mph++?I would also have to agree that in some places they appear to be tax collectors but generally they are placed here as a result of complaints from the local community council or residents. (Based on experience over the years – when speed traps were place in locations as requested by the Co. Council – their members were amongst the first to be caught / fined!! KARMA!!

Keith – you will know that I am ex-police and I do tend to agree with your comments but possibly not the extreme driving example or what you called my ex-colleagues. Unfortunately if drivers DID obey the speed limits there would be no need for “Go Safe” or whatever they are currently called – but they DON’T unfortunately – they only react when they see such vans – or as in many cases – they don’t and too late – ticket!!  Statistically there are more people killed / maimed on our roads than by crime.  Thankfully I hope that you have never had to break the news to a young family that ‘dad won’t be coming home this evening (or ever again)’ as I have had to in my days – not a nice experience and something you NEVER EVER forget as a copper or even in retirement!!

What I would like to see is the use of a caution for those caught within 5mph of the speed limit as opposed to a fine – yes it’s very easy money and if you have a car, you must have money – cautions are never given unless you happen to get caught by a ‘human cop’!! Over many years as a custody officer I cautioned countless thieves, burglars, druggies and those who had committed  minor assaults but NEVER a motorist who may have been a few microgrammes over the limit or a mph or so over the speed limit.

Question – why were you entering a 30mph limit at 40mph is one question I would ask? Your inference to idiots (doing their job) could also be a reflection on your driving – the 30mph signs are quite clear and you must have known where you were at that time and hence familiar with the road conditions. Thankfully ‘there but for the grace of God, go I’ and thousands of other motorists – but before you unduly castigate them – have you ever attended at a fatal accident to see and hear the carnage? Perhaps that might change your mind?

Unfortunately the number of policeman (& their funding) currently available has gone down by 15-20% over the last few years (thanks to Theresa May and Co.)  and yes they are ‘bang at it’ trying to do everything, for everyone with relative nothing and one hand tied behind their backs as well’ – your analogy to FGM is stupid as that is not a crime that is seen in the public eye (compared to theft, burglary, robbery and violence). FGM is totally within the family and thus almost impossible to deal with – you may have heard that teachers, doctors etc are now being asked to disclose such information as and when they suspect it – it is certainly not a visible crime that a PC might come across in his daily work and to make that comparison reduces the validity and credibility of your argument in my opinion.

Look at it this way Bob, from what I understand the EU Parliament needs a full compliment to be ‘legal’ so for the time being that includes the UK.

Get voted in – probably for less than 12 months, we leave, you are now obsolete but your service will be pensionable probably by the EU – we will be getting some of our ££s back!! Go for it. ?

Come the next General Election, I really wonder how many of the ‘old guard’ will be there at all, we may end up with some 600 odd new MPs and to be honest could they do any worse than the shower there now?

I cannot help but smile at the comments ‘we didn’t know what we voted for’ faction – no we didn’t but looking at the last 2 odd years I honestly don’t think anyone else did either. We were asked a simple IN/OUT question – we chose out and if I am totally honest, I don’t think anyone in the UK or the EU was aware of what was ahead.

We are the first to ‘leave?’ – there is no blueprint as to the method of leaving, again if honest I don’t think any UK politician knew either – hence the current scenario in the House of Idiots. What I certainly do know is that MPs, Ministers et al put party politics and loyalties before the will of the people. The people will not forget.

If we were to get a general election tomorrow I strongly suspect that the H of Commons cat would stand a very good chance of being elected.

Not wishing to inflame any current viewpoints on this topic, my own feelings are that Teresa May should have approached the Brexit talks with a team of cross-parliament, irrespective of political colours from the outset colours an not try and hold it as a Conservative Brexit only. At least such a position involving cross party MP inc some of the smaller ones, would in my opinion, have proved more fruitful in the end.  Brexit / No Brexit / Remain / Delay / abort Article 50 will be a problem for successive governments for the next decade in my opinion.  The current Tory only stand allows everyone in opposition to put their own ‘penneth-worth in’ in the full knowledge that they will never be called to account.

Imho it should have been a  cross parliament team from the outset and not an attempt to get a Tory victory!!! ????????????  Look at where we are now.

Just my thoughts as a sick to the back teeth voter who voted to remain (as my kids felt their futures were better with the EU) whereas my heart said “GET OUT ASAP.”

Sad or not, I bet the vast majority of the UK population are in 100% agreement with me. She turned her back on the UK, the land which gave her birth, education, freedom and God knows what else. She decided to go to Syria, where she says that looking at bins full of decapitated heads “did not phase her.”  I wonder what the families of those whose heads were in the bins would say now?

She wants to come back – perhaps IS did not have the social services infrastructures  we have here, the child welfare, the caring society, job seekers / unemployment benefits. If allowed back – she’d probably need housing, benefits, medical care for her and her child and a multitude of other services and support to boot.  Setting examples is one thing, being complete and utter idiots is something very different.

She can stay where she is until Hell freezes over as far as I am concerned, though perhaps I would bow to bringing the child back but NOT his mother.

The Duke – ” ..Let her back, and monitor her….”

I would think that our hard pressed police / security services are fully stretched already with the ones we know / suspect are sympathisers, let alone allow back a person who has shown total disregard for her country of birth and who has shown no remorse whatsoever about the events she witnessed (participate in??) in Syria?

Let her rot there. At least that will be one less IS sympathisers we have to worry about and one less child our hard pressed social services will have to deal with. Sorry for the child – he suffers because of his mother.
