I note that some have equated this fire and resulting tragedy to that of an aircraft disaster and subsequent national investigations there into – what becomes abundantly clear from such aircraft investigations that the ‘disaster’ was as a result of a series of minor incidents which cumulated in the final tragedy. I am almost certain that that is what will be found here.

I too have read FB with many already shouting to have the Block torn down – with the human remains still inside?
There are far too many people coming in with their own ‘barrack room lawyer’ ideas but few if any have any intelligent things to say.
It will be a matter of time, detained inquiries, many questions asked – I hope the public enquiry recently announced will also have the power to compel those involved to attend and, unless self-incriminating, to give evidence.

In fairness to WD who I have maligned a fair bit over the Black 5yr warranties – HDDs dying after 30+ months, my 1TB was replaced by a brand new 2TB unit manuf in May 2017.

Hi Tippon – thanks for that. My old AOMEI disk just ‘did it’ but when I tried to use it on this mobo UEFI jobbie – it didn’t work – downloaded the latest version – bingo – backed up the C drive.
However when I try to restore to the new HDD, it does it great – just that the damn thing won’t boot. I’ve had a look at the AOMEI site and downloaded some bumf re the UEFI system, so will read it.
May be that I didn’t backup all that I should have?

Just put the HDD back into his PC and it will not boot at all. I have fiddled with the ‘bios’ uefi only, uefi/legacy or legacy to no avail. Disk management shows a healthy 2TB primary active partition and I can read the restored info on the hard drive but back in the PC – it fails to boot. If I set ‘legacy’ as a priority I get the response that the boot manager is missing – press ctl alt del etc. UEFI I just get past the splash screen and generally a black screen with a horiz cursor in the top LH corner of it.
If it helps the original OS on the PC was installed simply by inserting a W7 disk, it was then updated a few years later to W10 by Ms, I backed up the HDD as it was failing, the replacement was a 2TB HDD to which I restored to after creating a 2TB single NTFS partition on it.
What am I missing or doing wrong please?

Have now just to be 1000% certain, moved the backup file to a key stick and used that, anyway ran the restore function and got to the same place as before – sod it this time I just went with the software and after a couple of hours ended up with a C drive partitioned into two drives approx 950GB each. Ran disk management and eventually got it to one single 1.8TB partiton and using Sharkoon and my own PC I can at least see the contents on the new drive as being identical to what was on the old.
I now just need to re-install in his PC and see if it boots up.

As a long time Tory voter I was dismayed at the very least to see the campaign led by TM, she did not face the public apart from selected Tory gatherings, unfortunately her demeanour throughout was that of a ‘middle aged school ma’am who knew better than everybody else’, with an apparent 20 point lead in the pole on a Labour Leader who appeared to be totally unelectable – she blew it. Her policies appeared to be the ones for the rich, looking after what is traditionally the Tory vote, to me she typified what I dislike about many Tories – we look after our own first! Corbyn promised the earth, he will tax the rich to give to the poor – a modern Robin Hood. He might now have to deliver on those promises. He will apparently squeeze industry on corporation tax to raise £26B, re-nationalise rail, water and God knows what else – however in times of austerity, especially if you are at the sharp end of that austerity, he sounded good. Personally I would like to see a gov that will make all the companies we currently have in the UK pay their due corp tax. Based on personal experience, I was with a very small company, out turnover was £35K and we paid £3,500 corp tax on that sum, the same year Costa paid sod all!!!! Should we have imported our paper clips via Belgium and Luxembourg!
This time, for the first time ever, I voted tactically on Anglesey – I voted Labour – I can’t stand Corbyn though I do suspect he may be the most sincere MP in Westminster – I did this to keep Plaid Cymru, Ieuan Wyn Jones out – he was a spent force (force – more force in a wet jelly!) either as our MP, AM or Deputy First Minister – Soooooooo glad to see he came third after the Conservatives on the Island – if the results are close I might regret my tactical vote – we’ll see!!

Graham – yes absolutely ‘yes’ – when AOMEI presents you with the options – backup / restore / clone and Utilities (?) and I select ‘restore’ it shows all drives attached to the PC – the file I need is on an external HDD named Icy Box. When I make that selection I can also see the 2TB HDD in the window, so having selected the correct file- I select the path from which to restore and select the drive (C) to restore to – but the C option only shows up as a 1TB HDD which is the same as the ext HDD. Just wondering if I select the C option – will I then have to make the partition to 2TB?
To be on the same side, I’ll copy the backup file to a mem stick and give that a go. had no problems at all with the older version of AOMEI but this latest one …. !!!!

I think that one of the biggest myths in the UK is that there was a time when Dixon of Dock Green ever existed.

Can I just clarify what May did – she forced police officers who had completed their 30 year stint to resign under a section of the police laws (can’t remember which one – could be S18 of the Police Disc Code) – these were of course the most experienced officers and also the most expensive to employ. In fairness any of these officers could have put their ticket in at any time it suited them – of course many would have continued until their required retirement age – 58yrs for Constable and Sergeants.
Of course if you get rid of experience the youngsters have nobody to refer to. The money save in this way was to have been used to employ more officers – whether it did or not is another matter.
