They are not unique in this, if memory serves me right, weren’t the MCC team involved in something similar some years ago?

Well MSE just ended – all clean.

Thanks for the suggestions as to free cleaners – will give them a go.

Just as a matter of interest – Hitman Pro – can this be loaded onto a USB stick and used as and when trouble brews or has it got to be downloaded onto a PC?

Thanks Bob, ran MSE all night only to discover PC had gone into sleep mode – changed that!! Don’t really expect to get a good response from MSE as this appears to be ransomware infection.

I have looked at Hitman Pro just after I got this PC – they need payment to remove any infections. Really looking for a free version which is recommended on the MS site – Hitman but that doesn’t produce anything akin to a malware removal tool. Noin illigitimus grindum.

If all else e fails there’s always the ‘format HDD’ nuke option.??????

Just an update – I collected her PC and at home switched it on – I got the following message  “Critical Error: Malware Infection found”  telling me that F/B, internet and email acct names/passwords/ banking details etc could be compromised.  Of course it can be removed with a call to a tel number.  It purports to be from M/Soft but then I suspect differently ..!

She removed Malwarebytes and MS Essentials and appears to be unprotected.

It allowed me to download MB and SE but the initial scan with MB showed some 9 problems – quarantined and removed – still there after re-boot.  Ditto in safe mode.

Some suggestions on line tried w/o success – nothing sinister in ‘Add/Rem progs’, MW bytes now gives all clear!! Also tried AdwCleaner – also reported all OK. Also reset F/Fox – refresh option.

Currently running full MSE scan.  Did try to download Avast in safe mode but it would not allow if (Avast – saying cannot install in s/mode).

Will try with Avast tomorrow but any ideas / suggestions short of cleaning the HDD?

            Thanks,  Dave

Ed P – thanks for the response BUT it’s not ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s a woman that I built a PC for some years ago!!!!!  I’d like to think that I’m a bit more savvy than to even open a Russian email – especially nowadays – never know what might come out and bite/gas you!!  lol

                Hi John,

That’s assuming the leak is in the radiator – it could be anywhere in the cooling system to include the cylinder head gasket which if that goes ….. !!  £££££££.  It does seem to be a slow leak but a leak none the less – one trick would be to drop some Radweld into the radiator and top up with water and allow it to do its business. Worked for me many many times when money was tight many years ago.  Worth a try – don’t know if Radweld is still made but there must be similar stuff on the market – radiators still leak!

If not a rad or a hose leak, need to check around the water pump area, heater pipes and generally anywhere the water circulates around to.

Radweld will not cure leaking hoses but might be OK for a leaking water pump for a while.  I think once you have put Radweld in, top up with WATER and, from memory, you may have to drain the system later on.  Then once cured re-fill correctly.

Thanks one and all. For the difference I suspect that a new Synology unit as mentioned might be the better option especially with the warranty offered. Will order in the next few days – expect ‘dumb assed’ questions thereafter!! ??????

The point I was making was simply ‘the laws of unintended consequences’ – I can’t see this totally stupid and ill conceived contrivance even being taken up by the most inept council …….. or I might need to rephrase/reconsider that.

Anything that is designed to interfere with any vehicle’s safety must intrinsically be idiotic – even the police using their Stinger mats do so under strict conditions.

To try and get back to the original topic – I have never seen anything so stupid and dangerous in my life – and after 30 years in the police – I have seen a few!!

The idea is to prevent cars being parked on the pavements – great idea but with road these days barely wide enough to allow two car to progress in opposite directions on many high streets, the common sense options are:

                        Double yellow lines with enforcement.

                        Raised kerbs

Edited to include – cheap, short stay parking in towns

Lets assume ‘rectal cavity’ has parked his car on the pavement oblivious to the blind, mothers with prams, the disabled, normal pedestrians et all, the device doesn’t quite work in this instance as designed, so off drives ‘rectal cavity’. Half way home and travelling at a legal 70-mph limit – he suffers a front tyre blow out.

Careers across the road, colliding with or killing take yer pick:

Kids on way home from / on way to school

                        pedestrians

On coming vehicle, HGV or bus which takes evasive action (now read from top of this list)…….  need I say anymore?

Not that long ago something very similar happened in Glasgow when the driver of a refuse lorry had a funny turn at the wheel – how many were killed or seriously injured?

I think what has been shown here and in some 14? other similar Russian defector type incidents, whether this is linked to Russia or otherwise, the message is very clear to any defector or double agent or ‘traitor’ – the home country can and will flush you out anywhere in the world and can/will extract retribution.

Not only does this send a very clear message to others in similar positions worldwide but to others at home (wherever that might be) who are thinking of doing the same thing.

I think JCD is correct with the product, but in local stores they will be a bit cheaper than Amazon.

John there is an oven cleaner which also includes a plastic bag – will have a look tomorrow but you place all the grimy bits in the bag, pour in the supplied caustic soda gel (I think it’s caustic soda), seal the bag make certain all the metal bits get covered and leave overnight or at least 12 hours.

Rinse the following day and they are clean – I think we got ours at ‘£stretcher’ for about £2.50 or so if my memory serves me correct.

                                No fuss, no mess.

I’ll ask the wife tomorrow for the full name of it.

Just to be pedantic it should REALLY be:

                                    Dydd Gŵyl Dewi hapus.

Wasn’t too certain if I could get the circumflex above the ‘w’ so I tried it and I did – my achievement for today!!

Yep – standards are pretty low in the achievement tables nowadays – I wake up in the morning – that’s an achievement!!

The obvious question to me John would be – why are there two signatures on this passport? In these times of heightened security checks etc. etc. although both signatures might be seen to be identical, further examination would probably be necessary whist this could be verified = delay or being unable to ‘use the passport’ immediately springs to mind – the effect of this depends on whether you are leaving the UK or trying to get back in.
