My thoughts were mobo as well, it’s a 2013 model so ‘bang for bucks’ its done very well. As the ‘failed’ one is FM2 he’s thinking of an FM2+ mobo – the demands are not such that he needs the latest cutting edge tech or even last years cutting edge tech.

A new mobo would be the cheapest option to a PC that does what is generally required of it on a daily basis.

Thanks one and all and I will ask him to try re-installing the video driver first before investing in a replacement mobo.

Bob – after your op, you DON’T need a challenge every day. Take each day as it comes there will be good days and not-so-good days so it is vital not to overdo things at first.

Too late to edit but seen on the internet the chaos this update has caused, but as far as I have read nothing similar to my problem. On W7 can anyone please tell me how to manually download and / or install w updates please?

Full recovery will take time and you MUST learn to be patient – not necessary now to wallpaper the hallway. I hope you have a speedy recovery and get back to full health.

Last week I thought AF Day had arrived early when I saw a piece on P2 of our regional daily – Daily Post – that a certain Plaid Cymru AM was suggesting that once they got into power as a government – they would establish a Welsh airline company – ‘Cymair’ ???? (My suggestion).

Doesn’t this give you a warm feeling somewhere, to think that with all the poor housing, education, health and social infrastructure in the Principality that once in government Plaid Cymru (PC)  would have a national airline. It wasn’t 1.4.18 after all, soooooooooooooo glad our aspiring politicians are looking after our long term interests.

That said by the time PC ever (if ever) get to that stage would be like Microsoft urging punters to return to W95 as the way forward!

Although the TDSSKiller gives the OK on a scan, the original problem is still there.  A malware scan has indicated certain PUPs which have  all been quarantined and removed – w/o any effect on the original problem. Now getting to the stage where I’m beginning to suspect that the problem is more of a ‘bloody nuisance item’ than specific malware.

Thank you all for the advice – it’s still there – SuperAntiSpyware didn’t find it nor Avast – however what is strange is that although it threatens to reset the PC it doesn’t seem to do so.  Also I have seen a small box shape in the taskbar – the 3 ‘visible sides’ are coloured red, blue and green and two sides have what appears to be ‘?’ with a coloured ink blobi (in the circular bit of the ‘?’) on the RH and Vertical sides?  I have even Googled the tel number they have provided to phone for ‘support’ but to no avail!

I can access all parts of the PC – so in that even would it be a wise or unwise decision to copy off the files the owner really would like to keep?

Hitman Pro does seem the obvious answer but perhaps someone might be able to throw some light on this before I buy HM Pro or even Format the HDD.
