I have now managed to solve it – using your suggestion – though I did this before posting the topic as it kept on defaulting to Welsh – seems OK now though.  I suspect I failed to ‘Apply’ it!! Many thanks.

Anyone any ideas as to how to enlarge the ‘Character Map’ window without having to go to the magnifier option which seems to magnify everything.

I am heartily sick and tired of the remain / get out factions – the electorate voted for out, personally I voted to remain on the basis that it is now more up to the young people in the UK than the older generation. My heart wanted out!!

TBH if France and Italy allowed a free vote as we had, both countries would also leave, but France will not allow such a vote on the basis they know what the result would be.

I listen to all those who have opinions on this matter and all the negotiations involved – how we would do it, we would insist on this etc. etc  et al. Corbyn is a prime example – it is so very easy to have all the cures in opposition knowing full well that you will not be called into the hot seat!!

May inherited a poisoned chalice – yes she sought the leadership and got it – but nonetheless a poisoned one – Cameron made an error – he thought the electorate would vote remain – they did not and he left – akin to the captain leaving the sinking ship first.  I am sick and tired of hearing the ‘remainers’ belly ache that the result was close – had it been a general election – would those who ‘lost’ be complaining then – I suspect not!  The benefits / foolhardiness of first past the post elections. I am not a lover of May by any stretch of the imagination but faced with Brexit and her rebellious cabinet I do have a lot of sympathy for her – I may be the only one I would add!

I should also add that as the UK is the first country to ever leave the EU, then all sides are breaking new grounds at this time – if anyone else goes then I’m fairly certain there will be some ‘previous experience of such matters’ to refer to.

And just to cap it all – bl**dy football and tennis on the TV!!!!!!!

            Rant over!!

I’m certain that I am preaching to the converted but No Insurance is an ‘absolute offence’ for the average motorist and allowing / permitting no insurance is exactly the same. If caught her chances of getting car insurance after conviction would be low and V V V V V  expensive.

The best, safest and wisest option is for her to be driven by someone who is insured to drive that car.  God forbid that she was ever involved in an accident (blameworthy or not) and if someone was to be killed – the ‘pooh would hit the fan’ at supersonic rate.

Strangely the Fray Bentos saga seems only to have come to the fore in the last few years – we always successfully used a bog standard tin opener then they seemed to stop working – FB actually told me that their tins now have a deeper recess around the top for strength which makes it much harder to use a standard butterfly opener – exactly what we found. Sod buying a £8 opener to open a pie tin costing £1!!

PS – who remembers the wall mounted Beech Nut chewing gum machines that gave you 2 packs every fourth penny (1d – I mean!!)?

In response to Richard’s comment – Fry Bentos tinned pies – lovely BUT they need a special can opener to open them – even FB suggest that – it costs about £8-10 depending where you buy it. FB say that the can is strengthened so a bog standard tin opener won’t do the job – been there and saw the amount of metal chards in the pastry after struggling to open them.

Until FB sell a canned pie that doesn’t need an expensive opener to open it – they can stay on the shelf. The above advice came from FB after I complained to them – love the pies but the metal grinds my teeth!!!!

Probably what is happening is that companies with large postal mail outputs use a franking machine in their post rooms (many small companies / solicitors have these as well).  You hire the machines which then allows you to send mail at a cheaper rate for you – no collections, no franking etc. etc just dump all outgoing mail at the nearest PO.

For a company sending out very large numbers of letters etc. it works out much cheaper – seems if you also enclose a ‘SAE’ that’s cheaper too. You ‘feed the machine’ with shekels at regular intervals!!

Hi,  Don’t think there is – in times gone by you could ask the DVLA (on payment of many shekels) for the details but I think that has now stopped even tracing companies don’t bother with car numbers.

As an aside become a rogue unofficial parking compound owner and the DVLC will sell you the details you want!!????

PS Perhaps if the number has been on a L/Rover since 1991 it also has some significance for the current owner as well?

Yes I was going to post that myself.  If you’re thinking of using something like that to send items by post it may be too small in size to balance the stuff on.  As a rule of thumb reading your comments on ‘kilogrammes’ as a rough guide – 1Kg = 2.2lbs or 2.25lbs or 4Kgs = 9lbs – as a rough guide.  So 10Kgs = 22lbs approx.

Bob – if you read my initial post I did clearly say that ‘without knowing what was the other side of the white car …’ perhaps you should post the complete picture and not bits that you suggest prove your point?

Having been in the enforcement game for many years in the police – it’s not always as ‘cut and dried’ as it first appears.

Sorry but the doors on the Passat are also very heavy and quite long – if I park across a hill, my wife cannot open the door if she’s on the up side, or if on the bottom side, can’t close it. They have steel side-impact panels which weigh a ton so I more than understand the problem.

Sometimes before we go ‘off on one’ it might wiser to have a look around and see whether it is just inconsiderate parking or whether there could well be a genuine reason for it and it is simply not a matter of poor / inconsiderate driving / parking.

After 30 years in the police I reckon that I have seen most of it and it is not always as it first appears.

Should anyone ever attend at Venue Cymru (Theatre) in Llandudno the spaces are so narrow, even normal sized humans have great difficulty exiting their cars – I have no chance. It’s like putting a 6′ wide car in a 7′ wide garage!!

Just pause a moment and look at the situation – nowadays parking spaces are getting tighter and tighter. I have a VW Passat Est Sports 2L jobbie – it has 4 doors but the two front passenger ones are wide and with a back / leg problem I need to open them as wide as I can to get out. In doing so I have to consider others BUT in this instance without knowing what was parked on the other side of the white car, it looks as if the driver COULD have had the same problem as I have. Yes the parking is poor but whilst he is somewhat diagonal into the other bay, he has not prevented the other driver using his door to move the car out for any passengers who can’t get in because of the Audi.

With so many very narrow spaces these days sometimes it’s v difficult to park correctly without causing damage to cars parked adjacent when getting out of the car by bumping their doors / paintwork when doing so.

This could be the best option in certain circumstances. The ideal answer is to make parking spaces wider than they are now but then that would be at the expense of less cars and possibly less revenue!

Just a thought as to the cause and reason for this.

Yes my association with WD Black HDDs has certainly not endeared me to them – despite having a 5yr warranty and also costing a small premium because of that, mine have had a fairly high failure rate in the first 18 months in a domestic environment.

The problem is that NHS Wales and all other public bodies HAVE to provide a Welsh language service by law even if realistically only ONE person ever uses it. One of the major problems in parts of north Wales is the insistence of the need to speak Welsh as a major factor in gaining employment – however I do have a very warm feeling (somewhere) when I know that we Welsh speakers get THE best officials ‘cos all the best officials speak Welsh don’t they? !!!!

One doctor on the radio the other day stated quite clearly that having left the Welsh hinterland for the bright lights of Cardiff Medical School as a student, there was no possible incentive for him to come back especially if he, his family were not Welsh speakers and did not want to learn it either – fair point.  Welsh medium primary education only (in some parts) – English is seen as a foreign language with some almost to the same fervour as Trump views Kim Jong-un.

I have just realised the significance of Dave Rs comments – it is of course far more than ‘just’ the mobo – all the other things on it as well!!

I have now attached the SSD to the system, downloaded the ISO W10 files as per Dave Rs post, burnt them to a DVD and tried to boot from them – all I get is a message asking me to insert a bootable device in the selected boot device.  I have tried same in both DVDs in the system as well as altering the boot device in the bios – still no joy! The ‘burnt DVD’ shows signs of having ‘stuff’ written to it but it won’t seem to boot.

What the heck am I doing wrong – I don’t like W10 at the best of time as what’s happening now does not endear me any closer to it!! ?
