All that I can do …..
Law of Mechanical Repair –
After your hands become coated with grease,
your nose will begin to itch and you’ll have to pee.Law of Gravity –
Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped,
will roll to the least accessible place in the universe.Law of Probability –
The probability of being watched is directly
proportional to the stupidity of your act.Law of Random Numbers –
If you dial a wrong number, you never get a
busy signal; someone always answers.Variation Law –
If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one
you were in will always move faster than the
one you are in now.Law of the Bath –
When the body is fully immersed in water,
the telephone will ring.Law of Close Encounters –
The probability of meeting someone you know
INCREASES dramatically when you are with
someone you don’t want to be seen with.Law of the Result –
When you try to prove to someone that
a machine won’t work, IT WILL!!!Law of Biomechanics –
The severity of the itch is inversely
proportional to the reach.
Law of the Theatre & Football Stadium –
At any event, the people whose seats are
farthest from the aisle, always arrive last.
They are the ones who will leave their seats
several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet
and who leave early before the end of the
performance or the game is over. The folks
in the aisle seats come early, never move
once, have long gangly legs or big bellies
and stay to the bitter end of the performance.
The aisle people also are very surly folk. The Coffee Law –
As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee,
your boss will ask you to do something which
will last until the coffee is cold.Murphy’s Law of Lockers –
If there are only 2 people in a locker room,
they will have adjacent lockers.Law of Physical Surfaces –
The chances of an open-faced jam sandwich
landing face down on a floor are directly
correlated to the newness and cost of the
carpet or rugLaw of Logical Argument –
Anything is possible IF you don’t know
what you are talking about.Law of Physical Appearance –
If the clothes fit, they’re ugly. The 50-50-90 Law
Whenever there’s a 50-50 chance of getting something right,
there’s a 90% probability that you’ll get it wrong.Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy –
As soon as you find a product that you really
like, they will stop making it OR the store will
stop selling it!Doctors’ Law –
If you don’t feel well, make an appointment to go
to the doctor, by the time you get there, you’ll feel
better. But don’t make an appointment and you’ll
stay sick.If you don’t forward this to your friends,
your belly button will unscrew – and your bum will fall off.Really… It’s true. I read it on the Internet.

I don’t think that I can cap any of the horrors here, so I won’t even try – know when you’re beat!!
Happy Xmas to one and all and a Prosperous New Year to everyone.

I’m old enough to remember when images were stored in a cupboard, no upload limit, no possibility of hacking, no clouds, no drives, no Google this or One Drive that. Storage capacity was limited to the number of albums and the size of the cupboard – they seemed to be happy days then!! ????
Happy Xmas and a Prosperous New Year to you one and all.
Going back into my shell now! ?

Great news Bob – what a great Xmas present.

Just been digging – I have found a copy of XP SP3 – which I or a friend may have downloaded when it was in vogue. I also have official MS SP1 and SP2 disks but the SP3 is home made. Had it for years I have no idea whether this will take you any further than anything you could buy on Ebay?
Anyone with views on this?
I too use an old XP PC about once a year – I have a labelling programme that won’t work under W7 and that PC is connected to the internet. To date no problems but I am aware …. !! I can’t really disagree with what far more knowledgeable people have said here. Currently I am still a hard & fast W7 user!!

What I think history teaches us is that we do not learn from it and continually make the same errors over and over again.
Sadly we now live in a world where ‘paper qualifications’ are paramount – you may be able to do it on paper but put some tools into the same guy’s hand and he’s lost. We seem to have lost the time when “he’s a damn good (plumber, carpenter/painter/tiler/plasterer/mechanic …. et al)” to now be in a world where unless there are paper qualifications to match the guy falls by the wayside. So much talent wasted on the throne of educationalists and faceless bureaucrats in distant and unrelated offices dictation often on matters they have little knowledge and comprehension thereof.
My grandfather (died in 1962) was a ‘master carpenter’ as they were termed in those days – a 7yr apprenticeship to a mater carpenter and my God could he make wood talk – no electric tools in his workshop just a circular saw – he could turn out stuff far better than machines can do today – BUT he had NO qualifications – would not have made it today.

Hi Mark,
I once met him at Venue Cymru in Llandudno – he was giving a talk. Met in the bar – a nicer, more down to earth, genuine person you could not wish to meet. Had he been a teacher many more would have enjoyed their school history lessons.
Luckily in North Wales we have the quarries / slate mines and the narrow gauge railways all interlinked and of the IR period.

Yes like so many other places Wales has some fabulous historical places to visit. Personally I am not a history buff – teachers at school killed that off with their teaching of history – K&Q of England etc. etc. (not making a political point in any way).
I far prefer history from the 1840s – the history of the industrial revolution so to speak and one of the greatest exponents of that was the late Fred Dibnah – who made it all SO very interesting.

Bob,
” .. In all my visits to Wales, I have never visited Llantwit. I must correct that soon, although SWMBO wants to go foreign next year …”
To many of your countrymen, Wales is a foreign place. lol

Just got this from the Oberon Gallery in Leicester – bargain. Am a fan of Dale Bowen and his paintings. £500 down to £356!
His VW Camper vans and their intergallactic settings, piloted by silly looking sheep really tickle me. Hence “Space Sheep Enterprise” as the title.

A nurse told me that when 2nd class letters are ‘posted’ on a Thursday they don’t actually leave the hospital until the following Monday!!
So much for “No. of appointments missed today” scenario!!

Ed P – thanks but I am still using W7 Ultimate – never bothered with W8 and can’t really say that I like W10.

Thank you one and all, the solution suggested by Jukebox worked a treat thought it took a while to complete. Response at this time seems quite speedy compared to what it was.
Thanks to you all,
Dave
