Sorry as I am to post again on this topic (OK I know that I don’t HAVE to!!) but there are many here who are far more knowledgeable than I on the topic BUT for all of the posts posted here, can anyone say that it has made or will make an iota of difference to the end game?

        https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/if-youre-in-an-accident

will tell you the current requirements in law.  You ARE also obliged to inform your insurance company even if you do not intend to claim. I would also assume at the same time you would provide details of the person / company responsible for the accident and also supply their details and ins. co to your company.  They will then deal with it.

My first and hopefully only post on this most infuriating topic – I voted to stay in as my kids asked me to do, my heart said ‘out’. Anyway I accept the result.

However, my knowledge of current EU leaders is not at the forefront, but hasn’t Edouard Phillippe said that he would never allow such a vote, as Cameron allowed to happen in the UK.

          Me wonders why?

I started reading this but other matter needed more pressing attention – I will get back to it – it makes very disturbing reading.

As in all cases UK, USA or anywhere (probably even more so in the Soviet Union) those at the top are never held responsible for their actions. How often do we hear politicians say “we have put £££BBBBs into the (whatever), they have not used it correctly!!” Hackney comments by those who will never be held accountable.  Just the same in the police – cut the staff, cut the funding, increase the responsibilities add also emergency ambulance and social work cover to boot – what have we – chaos – held together by a very thin line of ‘front enders’ who do their very very best whilst knowing they are ‘urinating against the wind!!’  Lions led by donkeys.

            I must stop – the stress ……… !!

I think that staying loyal to any company is a total  mistake these days.  To them loyalty = cash cows to be milked so that ‘new customers’ can have a great deal that is not available for those old and loyal ones.

I seem to think that HMG may now be looking at this and asking if it is ‘fair trading’ by them.  Some years ago Tesco Ins for my car went up, so I looked around and got a cheaper quote (with the same main company that Tesco Ins was with) – so they matched.  The following year it had gone up a fair bit again, so I repeated my search of the previous year – got a cheaper quote and put it again to Tesco but they refused to match on the basis that “we price matched you on the last renewal”.

So with tears flowing from my eyes and wringing out all of my handkerchiefs, we parted company!!

” … Our car is back on the road for £2000 less than Vauxhall quoted. Its classed as a cat d but we will keep the car until it dies as it does everything we need it to. …’

I doubt if the old Duke will need to do that!! ?

Ed P – I agree with what you say entirely – the problem with high profile persons be it the DofE, a world class sportsman or any well known personality – there will always be members of the public who will make the usual comments – as per some here suggesting that ‘because of who they are, they will get favours …’  That is not the case – in truth I actually think they get a harder line  by the police / CPS to try and show total impartiality and total disregard of kith and kin etc.

Many years aho as a young copper I booked a guy and he gave me his name and address – eg Fred Bloggs, The Duke of wherever,  Anytown. I asked if the Duke of Anywhere was his address – not he was one of our blood blooded brethren – he was a lovely guy.

Put the process book in, called to see the Chief Inspector – queried about the ‘Duke of Anywhere’ which was very strongly highlighted on the book – never heard any more about it.  In those days they could – these days with social media etc. this can be brought to the attention of the public almost within minutes.  Times have changed.

Whoever has this one on his / her desk has a very hot potato at the moment.

Unfortunately the DofE has not helped himself or endeared himself to the public by the events of two days later – but according to reports this type of driving behaviour is far from new.

Contrary to some popular belief expressed here, I can 1000% guarantee that this accident will receive very minute scrutiny for one very simple reason, there will be people who will say ‘one law for us and ….’ and most certainly the police / CPS and all those involved don’t want to end up with egg on their face.

Any outcome of their investigations will be submitted to the CPS and they of course will have to decide (1) Sufficient evidence to justify a prosecution  (2)  a reasonable chance of a successful outcome  (3) Is prosecution in them public interest.

The DofE may have mitigation that the sun was low and in his eyes – that I do not think is a defence after all it is up to the driver to ensure that it is safe for him/her to commence any manoeuvre before it is commenced. He appears to have failed to do so.

Let’s be honest if this wasn’t the DofE it would never have been of interest to anyone.  A possible outcome is NFA – but there are at least 2 other innocent victims with injuries – that has to be taken into account but is NOT a governing reason to prevent the CPS dealing with this in the way they see fit.

The best and most sensible option the DofE surrenders his D/L and continues to drive on their private estate but not on public roads. The other option is to commence proceedings and ask the court to disqualify him until he passes another driving test.  Best option to all is the first one.  The innocent parties will still have the right to compensation for injuries and HRH insurance co will foot the bill to repair the Kia.

I was listening to a programme along these lines recently – similar circumstances where ‘person’ was likely to end up in a care home and had too much money.

The disposal of your assets to avoid / evade care home fees i.e. to bring it under £20K or £23K could be construed by the authorities as a deliberate attempt to dispose of your assets to reduce / avoid the fees and from my understanding can be claimed back.

Having work done on the house, giving the relatives ££s could be seen as such an attempt. However I also heard that the local authority need to discuss with the relative as to how they arrive at any assessment concerning the fees that have to be paid – or at least that is how I understood it.

Yes thanks to both of you.  I have found the Version number as described.

It was my elderly uncle who had the problem and he told me that he had not had the suggestion to upgrade for some time. Updated now via Ninite.

Thanks to you all who responded – hopefully another crisis over!!

Have now updated his LO to v 6.1 which I hope might cure the problem. Can anyone please tell me out of interest, how do you find the version numbers of installed software?
