I dug this out the other night as well – cracking game. However, I’m using the onboard AMD graphics card on my “gaming” rig. Works Ok – possible slow down here and there but overall it’s better than on the Lenovo X220.

Half Life was one of my favourite game series – I might have to go back and check out the third party remake and see how that’s going along. Last time I checked it was up to the Surface Tension level and looked amazing.

My install had already updated by the time I checked it. ?

Yeah, I’ve been with Tesco for the past three years and haven’t had any problems (contract). They use the O2 network like Giff Gaff, and I’ve no issues with that and I’ve had no issues when I’ve ever contacted support.

Contract wise, they offer perks like no one else does – they wont increase the contract part way through (like others do, for RPI rate rises) so you’ll only ever pay what you signed up. Like O2, they’ve now moved to flexible contracts as well – you get a contract for a SIM card and a contract for the phone. Once the phone is paid off, you’re only charged the SIM deal so you’ll be paying less, than say EE, where if you forget to call them up in 24 months when the phone has been paid off and you’re out of contract, you’ll continue to pay full whack.

My brother used to use them PAYG and they had some good deals of 3x the amount you topped or something.

If it’s any help as well, you get clubcard points 😉

Is there a theme option to remove the stuff from the right hand side? When browsing, I just have a big blank empty space once I scroll past the who’s online and latest replies section.

Ideal I would think for the usage that sort of kit is likely to be put to. My only question would be is the printer supported? EDIT – I did think that an option would be to install W10 from a USB stick and just wipe the whole 32GB. But I fear that would only put off the day we’re back here with the same problem. I’ve always been skeptical about these 32GB Windows devices since they appeared with W8.

Works fine with the printer at cadets (a wireless one but can’t recall the make or model currently). Only thing I’ve had to do to mine is use a USB wifi stick cos the inbuilt one is extremely poor. The USB one is picked up and works fine but Xubuntu (and Mint from when it was on there) wasn’t able to display signal strength for some reason).

I think I’ll be getting rid of my Picanto at the end of it’s PCP (December) – mainly because work are giving me £400 a month car allowance so I can pick and choose. Not sure where to start (though I did enjoy the Ford Focus I had as a hire car one time – Ford Focus Titanium 125 1L according to We Compare the Market when I put the reg in as I managed to get a photo of what it was). Though I think £400 would get me something sportier if I so fancied.

I formatted the drive on mine and use it with Xubuntu – no issues there with space filling up. I’ve used less than 10GB of the 32GB space.

‘nice fire modelling machines on the cheap’ Not knocking your idea, but wouldn’t a Beowulf cluster of Pi Zeroes be better for Monte Carlo simulation work? Agree that CUDA etc give you ready access to parallel operations but there are cases where individual processors MAY be better. The example below is for disease, but an ‘explosive’ fire could result in similar propagation characteristics (i.e. one source rapidly becoming multi-source at geographically disparate locations.). …. However for creating a cluster running some thing like “condor” Which can be used for things like Disease out break modelling, where you are running the same mathematical model millions of times with varible starting points. (size of out break, wind direction, how infectious the disease is etc.. ) so thing like the Pi would be ideal. as you are general looking for a full blown CPU that can run standard code.http://research.cs.wisc.edu/condor/

It’s CFD modelling, not Monte Carlo simulations. We’re looking at smoke flow around a building normally (the software is here). My current firm do have a Monte Carlo simulation tool but it isn’t used much (I don’t think they market it enough).

The modelling software doesn’t make use of CUDA either (a German research team tried to get the code running on CUDA but was unable to – lots of data I/O I believe the issue was which slows it down to make it not worth the bother).

That’s normal behavior for Facebook. I occasionally get eBay items show up, but usually a whole host of other adverts that adblockers don’t catch.

The eBay items it shows you will be based on the browsing history of the machine etc. I often get Amazon pop up there, offering my watches or books (not that I regularly buy watches, but I’m after a specific one so I’m often browsing for them).

by March the 3rd well find out it was just BS. Probably.

According to Ars, they have it all ready for benchmarks to be released on release date.

I hope it’s not BS as it could allow me to construct some nice fire modelling machines on the cheap!  :good:

I had a couple of jackets like them, I can’t recall the make, snug pak, pack lite (though that was my old berghaus so wasn’t pack light, bit similar, they was great, very warm and the whole item retracted into its own pocket. not cheap, but the RM issue ‘ho chi minh’ warm weather suit was terrible, Bob may recall them. The pants was worse. They was crap, and took up a ton of space in the began, so would never even make it into a patrol sack. With the pack light snugly, you good just put that in your parrot back ad your gortex outer bag. No need for a sleeping bag. More room for ammo and rations. Lol it was Snugpak softie’s. I’m an idiot. Though looking at the current ‘sofites’ the old ones wasn’t quilted, looked more like the one you linked to. But then they was deaf softies. I bet they was the first they did. Mid 90s it was.

Well the Sleeka’s are also known as Softies now – think it’s more to do with the stuffing. This one packs down into a separate stuff sack (no internal pocket now) but it’s extremely handy (and pretty warm!)

Currently as a Civilian Instructor with the cadets, I can wear whatever I like on the range or when on exercise so I’ve less of an issue picking items to stay warm or dry in  :good:  Though with my (imminent, though still awaiting paperwork!) trip to Cranwell, I may well have a lot less choice about my clothing on exercise in the future! Though they have just changed the commission so they’ve removed RAFVR(T) and replaced it with a Cadet Forces Commision which will apply to all three forces commissioned ranks. And I’ll wear RAFAC (Royal Air Force Air Cadets) pins instead of VRT pins.

Last coat purchase was the Snugpak Sleeka. Have found it immensely useful sat on the range with cadets. And in the cadet office before the heating kicks in! Was £20 cheaper on eBay than direct (and delivered to Argos so was easier to collect). Great coat. Wouldn’t want to go hiking in it though as I’d overheat.

Use it until it runs out? :p

Though I guess then ordering the new one would be an issue! ?

I can understand the data thing – MyMemory have Three SIM cards with 12GB data for £23 – here. (Don’t forget Topcashback/Quidco cashback). I was considering it with this for when I was travelling and to replace the god awful connection at cadets but Three doesn’t get a signal in the cadet office. Travelling between Manchester and London in the future it could be useful but equally, I could plug my phone into my laptop and do things like that so it’s hardly worth the initial outlay – I may crack when I move house and have no internet for weeks…

Well true – though there’s a mix of an impressive increase on the house price (28% increase over just under three years because London and suburbs are insane) and a relocation package and I thought I’d have a crack.

I’ve also cleared out a lot of kit recently on eBay (last night one of my bikes has gone, though I’m doubtful as the buyer is in Hampshire and I’m not delivering!)

About £400 odd with one of the accessories, sometimes hit £350.

Better not cos the SE version was £350

Luckily for it’s Argos, take it back! £350 + 1 moth goody bag at GiffGaff for the full fat version.

I took it back yesterday 😉

                                      The scam is simple.

                                      1. Hack an ebay and paypal account.
                                      2. List valuable stuff at silly prices.
                                      3. Appease punters with tales of ‘supplier problems’, ‘ill health’, ‘unexpected order volumes’ and such.
                                      4. Take the money and run.

I hope for you all this isn’t a scam. But it is.

How? Because Paypal will refund the buyer if they don’t get the item. If anyone loses out, it’s Paypal. I’ve not purchased anything but I was just wondering.

Can anyone explain the scam here? He’s obviously selling stuff cheap. Are they knock offs/stolen goods?

If they’re broken or something, I don’t see how Paypal wont side with the buyer and then he’s not gaining anything but losing out.

Well I did have that setup to auto unlock when in the car and I’m sure there was an option that did allow you to run it when locked (as there’s an option to access sensitive info at the lock screen if you want it).
