Drez, tesco is O2, surprised that’s lacking in a big city.
It’s got full 4G signal, just it’s unusable because it’s so slow. Clearly too busy and not enough masts. In fairness though it’s more of an inconvenience than anything.

Currently with Tesco, but was considering changing at the end of the 12 month period, as the service in central Manchester is pretty poor. Not enough masts perhaps.
Currently on 3GB data for a £10 a month and I can go to elsewhere for cheaper.

How did you get on? I ended up bringing this one out of storage yesterday to complete an online jigsaw puzzle, as I found that the vertical mouse was giving me grief (not sure why, perhaps I was gripping it to hard?)
Either way, this made it easier on the wrist.

Dan, convert is part of the Imagemagick suite like mogrify as well – only difference I believe is that mogrify edits the file in place, whilst convert creates a new image. I had to check Imagemagick, but that’s what the website says and must have been what I’d read and chose convert.

Managed to solve it – not entirely sure how, but it looks like combining the last two commands in to one did the job.
Working script can be found here. Creates the thumbnails on the desktop by dragging the photo on to the .desktop file (working in Mint at least, yet to try on Kubuntu). Gif shows it working. previously, it would run the first command and therefore create only the first image, but not the smaller thumbnail image. All seems to be working now.

TCBarrett – thanks for the effort in putting that together, I’ll have to read through it, as I’ve not done bash scripting for a while.

It does appear on some reading that the RANDOM variable gives a different number each time it is called, though I am assured I can get it be stored as variable (see here).
The temp file isn’t being created but with some playing, I think I could probably abolish that (in fact, playing about with it on the Windows laptop, I’ve managed to do just that – now to try that command on Linux and see what happens).

Considering that the first command gives me a picture with a random number, it would appear to be a value.
It’s when the second command (resizing to the smaller image) tries to run it doesn’t. That’s even if it’s the only command in the script. Annoyingly, Windows runs the command fine, but I’ve been trying to get away from it recently (and the Mac, as I’m not sure I want to pay out £1100 for a new Mac Mini…).

Infile for both is $1 – I assume it can be used for both variables. However, even removing the first line and running the script with only the second line, it doesn’t work nicely. However, run the command manually with the input set within terminal and it works.

I’ll give it a go – I’d just started playing Fallout 4 again with a new build so it might be a good call to try this. Always did prefer New Vegas to Fallout 3.

December 14, 2018 at 9:17 am in reply to: Firefox Live Bookmarks (or specifically, RSS feeds) #29127I hadn’t noticed them go to be honest, as my feeds are all dealt with via Feedly (though I’m looking at switching to TinyTinyRSS but it’s not playing nicely on my Synology).

It’s not eggs in one basket if the files are backed up properly. 1 locally and 1 remote. My customers backup to a local USB HDD weekly and to my Synology daily. My Synology backs up to another local one daily and also to C2 weekly. I also have it backing up to a Digital Ocean C2 Spaces which is much faster than the Synology C2 but $5 for 250GB a month.
Yeah, I currently backup locally to a external, work and Synology, so I guess I’ve got my 3-2-1 covered really. It’s a shame that the Backblaze B2 isn’t a Hyper Backup destination, but thinking about it, I might be able to use the S3 compatible. I’ll have a play anyhow.

Interesting to note that I was about to give the Cloudberry backup a trial to backup to the cloud, as was looking at the Backblaze B2 storage for offsite backups, but debating if that’ll be overkill (considering I have my Synology backup to the Synology C2 cloud and backup to a 4TB drive at work daily) as at this point, I actually have some photos that I’ll need saving (wedding photos!) and I’m wondering if all my eggs in one basket is a bit much (using the Synology)
I’ve used FreeFileSync in the past to backup my Home folder – whilst it does sync (and I use this to download the backups from my NAS at work), it can also do one way sync, including over SFTP, though on Linux this needs to be mounted, rather than using the inbuilt SFTP client. Again it’s perhaps a bit more hands on than the others to get setup, but once it’s setup its really handy. Can get it updating via Cron as well.

Sorry to hear that Richard. All the best.

Ah, none of the games unfortunately., as I would have jumped had that been the case.

I’ve got one of those. It’s a monster. Can’t recall why I’m not currently using it. It’s a pretty good replacement for the Logitech Trackman I used to have. I also bought one of these – it’s a bit smaller than the one you’ve just purchased.
I’m debating dropping the money on this one as I think it’s a bit of a goldilocks situation – the smaller one is a bit to small whilst the bigger one is perhaps a bit big!
I think I lost the productivity and accuracy a bit from my vertical mouse I use at home and work (and my wrists no longer ache). (I use this at home and work).

Like other people I still like the convenience of a wristwatch and the minimal movement required to check the time. My favourite watch is the Pebble Steel with its e-ink screen and >1 week battery life but I recognise when the battery finally dies a new watch will be needed. Having checked around the market I think I am going to go hybrid when that evil day arrives. The Nokia Steel looks nice with a reasonable price point.
Consider a Garmin? I’ve the Vivoactive 3 and it’s got an eInk display that last about a week. I think it could get longer if you turned off activity tracking. They also do a the Vivomove (though I see that’s on the link as well). I did have one briefly, but it didn’t get notifications.

Is it going to run an app? If it’s web based, the Amazon Fire tablets are cheap as chips. Not much grunt but works well enough. However, it’s a modified version of Android, but locked to the Amazon app store, rather than Play (unless you download APK files etc and sideload them).

It’s EMUI as well. Or at least based on that, as the launcher is here. Even with Nova as the default launcher, it didn’t work.
Not tried the 6T in the car yet, but that’ll come tomorrow as we’re off out.

I see the nVidia Shield TV has been reduced. I’ve been tempted. I’ll perhaps check John Lewis tomorrow when I’m there (as whilst it’s out of stock online, they might have it in store for that price but I’m not holding my breath). If I can get one this week for cheap, I’ll replace the Apple TV, as that has never really taken off for what I wanted it for (some casual gaming on the TV) as there hasn’t been many games released for it.
