Well considering at the minute the TIG are candidates that are in power and has resigned from a main party, I don’t think the Liberals have anything to fear.

It’s not like we’re ever taken seriously anyhow.

Yeah, I don’t know – I purchased a Window 10 Pro key to upgrade my laptop to Pro so I can use Bitlocker. Cost me ~£8 in the end (first key I bought was a key for new installs only and I couldn’t be faffed with that).

I also get free Office via work (5 installs per Office 365 license), though I can’t stand Office anymore really – they’re adding in online crap and it’s annoying. I’d rather pay for the one off fee for the “crippled” version. If only LibreOffice was a bit more polished – it does the job, but looks awful when you compare it against others.

Residents associations can get on my goat but mainly due to work. We’ve done some risk assessment work for one or two who then proceeded to ignore our advice. In the end in at least one instance, we felt obligated to report the breaches in protection to the fire service, who, as the enforcement body for the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order managed to get them to undertake the works we stated by issuing them an enforcement notice!

Kojaks aren’t very puncture proof, so you might be changing inner tubes a lot! They’re still made for the Brompton, but most people will run Schwalbe Marathons for those as it’s a pain to take the wheel off.

28×1.6 is your wheel size (28) and the width of the tyre (1.6in) in old money – the 42-622 also describes the tyre size in the ERTO number. Here states that the tyre is 700x42C (which 28×1.6 is about 700mm x 41mm so it would make sense).

If you change to skinner tyres then the rolling resistance can decrease, but the ride comfort can decrease as well, as well as grip etc. I’ve become a fan of a thicker tyre. When I did road biking, I ran 28mm wide tyres in comparison to the “standard” 23mm as they were comfier to ride!

Saddles are personal, so I can only say be prepared to try a few!

Training wise, rather than a single long ride at the weekend, two shorter rides on the Saturday and Sunday can help as well – as you are tired on the second day and that replicates the longer ride in total.

            Good luck!

I ended up ordering the Lenovo – will give it a chance and if needed, I can exchange it for the HP one I guess. I saw that generally the 2500U appears to beat the 2200U in benchmarks in both single and multi core and I’ve been happy with Lenovo products now for a while (couldn’t really complain about the HP Stream 11 I had previously either though).

Advice I was given at 18 was go to Uni, get life experience then go back – in fairness though, I was looking at the officer route. I tried again a few years ago when I was 29 and got rejected due to a back problem I’d had at 25. I certainly felt far more ready at 29 than at 18!

All the best with whatever she ends up doing.

Give me either and I’d be happy. If I was paying I’d probably go for the HP even though I’m a big Lenovo user.

That’s my issue – I’ve got a Yoga 720 from work and it’s good and I’ve had the X220 which has been excellent. I’ve also got a Lenovo 120S lying around that I had before work bought me the Yoga to replace the god awful and huge PC Specialist laptop they’d initially given me. Therefore, I know the Lenovo should be fairly good.

I can’t find any other reviews online about the HP one! Google and DuckDuckGo draw blanks.

Well looks like I’ll be ordering later.

I was debating on the HP one or the next one up cost wise on eBuyer is the Lenovo V330-14ARR. Benefit for the extra £50 appears to be the next step up CPU wise and it seems like it’ll support USB-C charging. Which would be handy as I have a USB-C charger and cable already that comes with me when travelling (an Anker multiport charger).

It’s got good reviews on eBuyer, but a number of awful ones as well, so I’m not sure.

Might be an interesting evening or two for the cadets there. I’ve got them playing with Simpleplanes on GOG. Teaches them some of the basics of aerodynamics as well as figuring out a power to weight ratio and structure! Might also get them Kerbal Space Program as well, as they’re looking to teach us more space stuff through the cadets shortly.

                        Congratulations!

We don’t tend to do a huge amount with the CCF which is a shame as we share the same command structure! Certainly the RAF and the RAF(CCF) is the case.

I’m down at RAF Cranwell next month doing my squadron commanders course, so I’ll be with a number of CCF officers then.

I’ve got another 200GE to build. Back to the MSI mobo and H17 case, pretty much the same spec but they want a 480GB SSD. I’ve also ordered 2 x HP 255 G7 Ryzen 3 8GB 256GB FullHD Laptops for a customer, not bad for £350 The benchmarks reckon it should be directly comparable to my Lenovo i5-6200u, we’ll see tomorrow.

Thanks for the recommendation. My X220 is running hot these days not really doing much and since I moved my office upstairs, I’m sitting on the sofa more with the wife in the evenings, so I’ve been on the lookout for a new laptop that’s a bit bigger, a bit cooler and means I can sit down there with her. Looks like it can do that – and I don’t have to go down the Apple route either which considering the price of them these days and the fact that almost everything I need now runs on Linux and Windows (with a minor exceptions) means I don’t have to go down that route.

I use Pocket Casts to listen to podcasts. It also helps you find podcasts. There’s also Podbay.fm to find them. I listen to a few regularly. My favourite has to be The Infinite Monkey Cage, though I also love Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History (his WW1 show, Blueprint for Armageddon was fantastic), History Hit, and Communion After Dark (alternative music podcast).

I listen to others occasionally, but those are the main ones. Try and listen whilst out walking.

Audiobooks, I had a subscription to Audible, but found I had to end it, as I was building up a backlog of books. I’ve got most of the Bill Bryson books that I’m working through on that and they’re good.

Modern power saving settings are also extremely good compared to what they used to be as well.

One of the benefits of installing Conky on my desktop was that I am able to see how often the CPU is actually running at less than 1Ghz!

In fairness, Libreoffice usually has a nag in the top right of the window asking to update (at least on Windows it does).

Tippon is right on how to find it for LO. Other software will vary, but similar steps. Control Panel Add Remove programs shows it for some as well.

Sounds like it’s the season to purchase one – I’ve ordered this one yesterday to be delivered on Friday. I fancied a 4K screen, but my Mac Mini wont support it (other than at 30Hz) and I’ve have issues with a high def laptop screen at work and some programs that I would use at home so I don’t think I’m ready to drop it on that.

Want to get a desk arm as well – can’t decide on this one or this one.

Atleast the theat of what could be in them, be enough to scare the US give into bringing alot of troops stateside fast. Its going to be interesting few weeks non the less. If it wad an inside job, or if they let it happen, I can’t see them (whomever them would be) ever letting out such a secret. As it would finish America, and crash global economies.

He could be preparing to invade Mexico to get the money to build the wall. 😉

There’s certainly a growing recognition about carry weight. For cadets (and the DofE award), we have to careful to let cadets only carry 1/3 of their body weight. Unfortunately, some squadron have old equipment that weighs a lot, that even with the bare minimum for a 2 day expedition, some 13 year old cadets are loaded with probably over 1/3 of their bodyweight! There’s isn’t a huge amount we can do then, other than suggest others help to carry the kit, but then that overloads those…

Light kit is more expensive and the last thing we do is usually give cadets expensive kit cos it gets broken!

Personally I have an automatic sync set up between my Google photos and my Synology server.

Didn’t realise I could do that. At the minute, my phone (my primary camera) automatically uploads to Google Photos as a backup and whilst I used to use DS Photo, I switched to using PhotoSync. Does the same job, but can upload to the NAS (and more) a but also supports renaming the photos and placing in to YY/MM folders in the desitnation.

I also use the Synology backup service, but think I’ve got the 300GB version as I backup documents as well for me and my wifes family and I was pushing 80GB when I bought it.

There’s a small fee for uploading, the big cost for Galcier comes if you ever need to download the data.

In the past, I’ve used S3 Browser  and been very impressed. At the time, I was using Amazon services to run out fire models – the quickest and cheapest method of getting the large amounts of data off the EC2 instances was to copy it to Amazon S3 using S3 Browser, turn off the EC2 instance and then download the data as required from S3.

They make FastGlacier as well which is purely to upload directly to S3. I think it supports staggered downloads to prevent large fees. I beleive Arq does as well but I never used Arq for S3 backup (it was backing up to SFTP).

Part of the reason I’d ben investigating Backblaze B2 was that it’s more straight forward in it’s pricing structure, charging for just GB’s stored, rather than uploads and downloads.

I don’t think IFTTT will upload to Amazon Glacier. Cost will be minimal though – both for that or something like Backblaze. You can use something like Arq to send it to there. Backblaze B2 doesn’t have any upload fees.
