      @d-dan,

Its only 6 if the 3 vote against the government. If they abstain its 3 of May’s majority lost.

I appreciate that, but the calculation of a majority is done on the basis that Government can out-vote the rest of Parliament, and not on the basis of “If”, which means that 2 more defections puts Con, even with the DUP bought votes into a minority Government by the standard measure.

Incidentally, anyone noticed ALL of the media can’t do basic math. They all claim that the Tories have lost 3 off their majority. No, they lose 6. For every Tory that goes, that’s one less for the Tories, and one more for the the rest.

If two more go, the Tories lose their majority, even with the DUP bribe.

And May’s running down the clock, being the blackmail that it is, why have the police not launched an investigation into government bribery and blackmail?

And I voted Leave – woe is me.

Personally, I predict both Labour and Tory being somewhat decimated in the next 6 weeks. Come March 29th, there are MPs in both parties will be ready to jump ship.

Well, fortunately, my /home directory is on its’ own drive, and I have media softlinked to that (music, videos and pictures) from another drive again. If I was forced to reinstall, I wouldn’t lose any of that. However, running Arch, which is a minimal installation initially, I’d have a lot of work getting everything back up and running.

I do keep a backup, but it is rather out of date, and this was a timely reminder to create a new one.

@ricedg I haven’t seen it with Windows or Linux for a long long time, but a completely non-booting system on Linux is still fixable. never found a way to repair Windows outside of the OS.

If you want to do it for free, and don’t mind dipping into the command line. rsync from a Linux live CD will do it just peachy.

Glad the HP worked. I have one the desktop for ad hoc use, and one plugged into a Pi running MotionEyeOS as surveillance. Both work a treat.

Just a quick update. The monitor arrived on Sunday, and it’s huge. After adjusting the default settings (which were, frankly, horrible, causing a muddy image with poor contrast – I think in no small part due to the colour temperature used) I now have a crisp, clear picture with good contrast ratio.

I was expecting to have to adjust fonts to accommodate the higher resolution, but text is clear and readable without having to do so.

Obviously, frame rates in benchmarks have suffered a little, but nothing to cause any concerns. Video is fine with no stuttering.

Surprisingly, even at 2560×1440 I’m still only using 200Mb of VRAM (out of 6Gb) for the standard display, and testing with GPU renders in Blender and usage when running unigine benchmarks, it stays well within operating tolerances.

Overall, for a shade under £200, this is a good buy.

My original was a slip of the keyboard. It’s the HPs that I have, and work faultlessly (including the audio).

                              My apologies, my bad.

Well, it seems like a hot item. All sellers across Amazon ran out by Wednesday. Late yesterday, it reappeared with just 9 in stock. By this morning, it was down to six. Now, it’s down to 5 (on account of, I ordered one).

                                Delivery expected tomorrow. 🙂

I have two Logitech HD cameras (one on the desktop and one on an RPi) and they work fine on both. V4L legacy was dropped, and support for her webcam may have gone with it.

This won’t translate directly, but take a read of the Arch wiki and see if it helps. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/webcam_setup#V4L1_support
