Very nice lighting – are the flames ‘particles’?

Thank you,and no – Blenders own smoke simulation (physics tab). I considered combining with a particle system, but this worked out just fine 🙂

My only Windows 10 install is in a VM (cost £5.99 for a full pro license) and I have it on the insider program (so probably more up to date than the thread). Apart from it being Windows, no problems.

The thing that sticks in my mind is the assumption of armed. And, having watched the video, had I been her (and she isn’t pressing charges), I’d have punched his smug lights out.

Back to the topic, is there an acceptable face of Conservatism?

I’m probably in a minority, but my priority would be Linux compatibility.

Probably predictable, but Clonezilla, both to get a working drop in replacement drive, a fully restorable image, or, certainly with Linux, a mountable image that you can get individual files off.

ebuyer are about 50% dearer for mine, and even with the paper they throw in (only 50 sheets) is still not great value. That said, I rarely need spot on colour reproduction for printing, so not as much as a problem for me to get re-manufactured (the carts are genuine Canon – and in fact they insist on only genuine for recycling) so after-market inks are usually fine for me.

I went for the $5 (£4) version. Apparently takes up to 6 hours to register, but the trial will last just fine for that.

I haven’t tested 4K, but my GTX1060 6GB handles QHD (2560×1440) without a problem and benches pretty well. Maybe worth a look.

Thanks, Drezha. Fortunately, the warranty was good, so only without for one night, and no apparent collateral damage. The worry was, if my computer dies, so does my entire entertainment system. I have no HiFi, no TV etc. All those functions are served by the PC. I’d have been stuck with a book, a lamp and a small DAB radio.

Anyhoo, currently building an emergency backup installation on an external drive (not a thumb drive) so that in emergencies, if I have some hardware handy, I can always boot into my own system.

I need to configure a multi-directional sync on it for email etc. but, hey, Linux. Should be easy enough.

Well, turns out the gfx card was still under CeX warranty, and they had two in stock, so I have a replacement. The whole pulling apart and removing screwed up grub, but finally sorted out and I’m back up & running, so all is good again. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Ed has some sympathy from me now. At least I knew how to fix it all up again.

I’m starting to think someone, somewhere is having a real good laugh at me. At turned 10pm a neighbour knocked on my door. It turns out, the replacement monitor arrived today and left it with him. Now, that’s all well and good, and it works just fine, except the laptop is incapable of driving QHD, so I can only tell that the display works, but I can’t check native resolution with no gfx card for my main PC.

Right now, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

It’s not the refund that’s the problem. It’s trying to get the damned broken one back to them. Day four, and no solution. I’m inclined to tell them, according to the CPA it’s now their problem. I’ve gone out of my way to help them. Now, it’s up to them.

chroot should be your first port of call here. There’s every chance that something is resting unconfigured.

Arch wiki, but will work: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Chroot#Using_chroot (you’ll need to boot from your CD/DVD/USB)

                                      Once you are in, try:
sudo dpkg –configure -a
Let it run through. Watch for errors or failures, and if necessary, remove misbehaving updates. You may need to try:
sudo apt-get install -f
Just to be able to uninstall stuff (though that could, equally, help to fix whatever is breaking).

                                      EDIT: And damn –
tags not supported – but you get the idea.

My son-in-law is an ACA CTA with Deloittes in Cardiff – they often seem to need new people ?

I wouldn’t go back to one of the big players (I was with RSM Tenon and then, after they went bust, Baker Tilly). Too corporate for my tastes. I prefer a local practice where the clients actually matter rather than just their fee generating ability.

Bristol is an easy commute from Newport by road or train, and now no tolls on the bridge.

Both Bristol and Cardiff or on my “Places to look” list. Pretty sure I could find something in one of them, and pretty sure I can get a glowing reference from my current place. Not rushing into that, yet. Need to figure out when my lease is up here – dunno if it’s November this year, or next.

Oh, and not that it will matter to her (she’s not a material girl), but I finally caught up with my Civil Service pension and got a current statement. I have a healthy lump sum waiting in less than 6 years (not life changing, but certainly a bit of comfort), so I can at least offer her something. I also found out the ex-dragon is my named death beneficiary, so I’m going to ask Leanne if she wants me to switch to her, whatever happens with us. When you’ve been in love with someone as long as I’ve been in love with her, what the hell.
