I think I’m in need of an upgrade. My 965 x4 is still very serviceable, but I have to admit to being intrigued by Ryzen. Having said that, I’ll be sitting back and waiting for the early adopters verdicts before I splash out.

Since whether I go for AMD or Intel will pretty much need a complete rebuild, I need to be sure I make the right choice.

Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.

I just wanted to add to the title, “before you go go”.

Sorry, you’ll have that running through your heads for the rest of the night/day (depending on when you read this)

Got my last fix this morning before I went to work. Cried a little bit tonight 🙁

I read the moral as don’t use Windows. But hey, that’s just me.

OK, no problem, as long as it’s known.

                Thank you.

I’d love to, but I’m not a 24/7 guy. Work full time, and go to the pub the rest. 🙁

I’d be happy to mod the Linux forum in isolation, if that helps?

@ John. I assumed that was for quoting the post. Duly noted for the future.

@Ed – Which is why I said the structure may be different, though I’m surprised something as fundamental and universally accepted as xorg.conf has been banished on the Pi. Maybe I should buy one.

I don’t have  pi, and so don’t know the file structure too well, but assuming that regular Linux structures are followed, try editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and adding in the “monitor” section:

                      Option       “DPMS”   “false”

                      And in ~/.bashrc

                      xset -dpms

(Why does this forum not support

tags?)

I’m not much of a gamer, but I can’t understand why you have problems, unless it’s Canonical’s patching that’s doing it.

On Arch, wine happily lets me play Trackmania, and I have Steam installed with no problems, and games advertised as Linux compatible just run. (I may even purchase Trine 2, since the demo is fun).

I suggest trying a non-ubuntu distro to rule out canonical carp.

Yo. First time I looked here it looked like a US camouflage test. Not sure what happened, but it almost put me off. Dropped in again, since I’m now terrified that I’ll click my MM bookmark and there will be nothing there, and looking much better, so hi from another refugee.
