The work machine is not a VM. It could, potentially, be an Intel driver issue. My issue is, if I update my Linux system, and I have a failed update, I can see exactly what failed, and concentrate in fixing that. MS, OTOH, has been hiding more and more of the system behind a pointless progress bar, meaning debugging failures is practically impossible.

Amen to both. The potential to destroy the Good Friday agreement, front line emergency services cut to within a hair of functionality, the NHS in meltdown.

This is not a government, it’s a badly run cartel.

Not always. I had updates at work today that made it through. Took an hour, but hey, free hour at work.

However, I’ve had to pin it at 1507. Anything later honestly refuses to boot. I’m sure my machine doesn’t know about my disdain for Windows (I certainly haven’t said anything within earshot of it), and the H/W is much the same as others. The only differences will be in software, since I’m the only one doing my job, I’m the only one with specific (expensive) commercial software, so it could be that. However, software by Thomson Reuters, I expect to not be a problem on Windows. The only other unique software would be Moneysoft Payroll Manager which will, honestly, run on a calculator if you put the effort in.

EDIT: And for the record, as long as I looked at it, the percentage update stayed the same. Gaze out the window and glance once in a while, it had progressed. Watch it again, and nothing.

My work machine is Win 10, and I have to be extremely careful about updating that. The last three full updates have left the machine in a non-booting state and forced a rollback, which means attended updates only for that one.

Noooo. I will never, ever support anything Lib again. I was foolish enough to give them a chance, when they whored themselves out to Cameron.

I’d much rather see a Labour (Corbynite style) majority, now.

Having said that, TM jumping into bed with the DUP, whilst at the same time supposedly being the stable voice in NI could, if Sinn Fein choose (and they may), give us another bonfire night, so, sticky toffee in summer.

Honestly, the veto power that smaller nations have is exactly why I voted out. We were a proud, inclusive nation. We had an empire, and as much as it was mismanaged, at the time it was the norm. Now, we are almost meaningless on the world stage, and that’s because we have been overshadowed by the undemocratic Union.

At least, with the power to determine our own destiny, we can be a worthwhile power again, done with the modern philosophies in mind, and honestly, I believe that is what Corbyn would fight for.

Right now, we have May’s promised coalition of chaos, though I’m not so sure she thought it would be her doing. The youth are fed up to the back teeth of being those that suffer in the name of austerity. Hell, I’m a tad fed up with it myself.

The Tories had the opportunity to make a meaningful difference, and May promised it for the first week, and then her true colours showed and she’s been going downhill since. I honestly don’t think she anticipated the groundswell of opinion against her, and even after a slim win, the polls continue to swing against her.

I would hate to see a New Labour government as much as the next man or woman, but perhaps Corbyn’s return to grass roots socialism could not only win, but fix this country. I hope I’m around to see it tested.

To say that anyone that voted leave voted for a hard exit is simply wrong. That’s the Tory spin machine at work, rather than reality.

I voted out, and would do so again, but I most certainly did not vote for “No deal is better than a bad deal”, nor did I vote for prolonged uncertainty for EU citizens living in the UK and vice versa.

We do, it was once called the Socialist Democratic Party, and Corbyn is a return to Socialist democrats.

Personally, I say good luck to him. I’d much rather have Corbyn’s Labour than May’s Conservatives 8 days a week.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on the C&U Party negotiating with Brussels. TM still has to deliver a Queens speech to Parliament and have it approved by a majority, something I don’t see happening with such a narrow lead and a rogue backbench. If she fails, JC will be invited to try to form a government, with the same challenge.

Sadly, I don’t see him being able to pull it off, either, which then sends us back to the polls.

Now, if Labour can keep the momentum of recent weeks going, a second bite at the polling cherry could very realistically see Labour win a majority next time around. Personally, I welcome this. I’m fed up to the back teeth of the Tories and their friend loving policies at the expense of the rest of us.

Even if TM can make it work, how long before England, Scotland and Wales voters get fed up of a small NI party effectively having a veto?

Revolution could be coming, with the youth at the forefront. And as T-Rex said, you won’t fool the children of the revolution.

I also have to comment upon previous posts here, regarding immigrants who first came here, having children who looked ‘different.’ I remember the first black family coming to my old village.

I hate to be pedantic, but I’m going to be. The first immigrants here eventually became what we consider to be the white, indigenous group.

I work in Manchester city centre, and for the record, apart from armed police when I got off the train this morning, and many fewer commuters when I got back on tonight, the people of Manchester are showing the same resilience that the British  have shown nationwide after acts of terror.

I took my lunch at Piccadilly Gardens today, as I usually do during summer months, and there was no sign of terror, no sign of worry. A busy place, equally busy today. The only difference was a (quite good) busker who had brought himself in to sing songs of hope.

The moral, no matter what these evil *******s do, we will not be scared, we will not abandon our lives, and we will not relinquish hope.

I have a VPS and host my own server. About as secure as I choose to make it.

However, some services that use email to sign up with don’t believe the addresses are real, so for those I use my (practically redundant) BT account.

Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.

On a Monday, The Old Monkey on Princess Street (Holts house, but has a good range) shouldn’t be too bad. It does get busy, but worse closer to weekend. If you fancied the meet up on 3rd, I could probably do it, and maybe I’ll book a days leave for 4th 🙂

EDIT: Of course, you’ll get work me, which doesn’t dress anything approaching free-time me. Damn, I had to buy a Fedora because the Stetson isn’t work friendly in my game.

I work in the city centre. I’ll almost certainly be in the city at around 4:30 – 5pm on 4th. Can’t do late though because 1. Work next day and 2. Have to travel back to Warrington by train.
