Thanks guys, clear and concise advice. Ryan, I will go with an HDMI connection, think this will clear your blank – SCART to RGB:

      http://tinyurl.com/ybth7v8c

I know that converter, have one somewhere in one of my boxes, used it on my old Panasonic 32″ TV, to play through an older DVD recorder, before I bought an HDMI one. A bit sobering to look back at all the different audio/video stuff I have had over the years!

Wasbit, I will go along with this, thanks: ” Remember that the DVD player outputs only so connect it to the TV & on the TV select the correct source. The Humax doesn’t even need to be turned on because there is no need for any channels. ”

That is what I was originally thinking, but sometimes I overthink things. Buying a DVD player today.

Spain v Portugal best game so far Dave, that will be a classic video for a long time I think. Very disappointed in  Nigeria just now. A Croatian team that is their Golden Generation, quite a few over 30 now, almost completely in control.

Whenever I watch Iceland play, I am taken back to the England Euro disaster. SWMBO and I were in Chester on holiday at the time and I had persuaded her to let me watch from the Guesthouse 50″ Panasonic. Can’t tell you how many times I was asked “Was it worth it then?” over the next couple of days.

Definitely do not get these that we bought a few years ago, John:

My daughter borrowed them and out of interest, SIL had them checked at work. They were miles out, reading light by several Kg.

Peru were good in parts, but just could not get the ball in the net. For Denmark, everything went through Erikson, who was making the low crosses that Dele Alli and Kane profit from. There was no one in the Danish forward line who could deal with them properly, until they got the break. They do break quickly, and were more direct than Peru. Can’t see either going far.

Iceland were at their brutal best, knocking the Argentinians about all over the pitch, but scored a great goal from a young player. Messi missing a pen was almost unbelievable and he was bossed out of it I thought. Has he gone behind the shadow of Ronaldo?

Croatia v. Nigeria should be better.

I bought my son a DAB radio for his car at Christmas, good antenna to suit and he gets better DAB reception than in the house. His village is 5 miles from ours, suffers the same dead spots for mobile and DAB. He loves the 80’s stations, plenty of them on DAB.

He was 50 yesterday! My lad is 50! Where did it all go? Makes me feel ancient…

To be fair to Karius, it is now being said that he was suffering concussion during most of the game, but this from the Liverpool Echo has another former goalie blaming Jurgen Klopp!

                  http://tinyurl.com/yanpy29d

I think if the concussion had been noticed, he should have been substituted and Mignolet brought on. Although it’s all done with now, time to forget and move on. I just hope that Karius uses the experience to improve and fronts up, gets better, doesn’t let it affect him. All rests on the first reception he gets from Liverpool fans next season and I expect they will give him the support he needs. I remember the Kop giving Peter Shilton some grief at the start of games, mainly when Shilts and Ray Clemence were competing for the England No.1 spot. They later applauded Shilts off the pitch for some great saves.

Dave, thanks again for that. Yes, I am on the mailing list and thanks to Richard‘s words about shorts, I am going to order a couple of pairs. Out of the 4 pairs of shorts I have possessed for about 10 years, only one pair does not fall down when I put them on, mainly because they are a lot more than 10 years old and I keep them because they were my running shorts. They are absolutely shot, must be about 35 years old and my missus turns up her nose even when I am just going into the garden in them. That’s what losing 2+ stones in weight, inside 3 months, can do. I can get both arms inside the shorts and trousers, while wearing them!

Just found a great High Waist store Richard. White Rose Clothing, got my first pair today and they fitted perfectly:

                      http://tinyurl.com/y7r8rxyd

They are described as Ostomy clothing, but don’t let that put you off. The trousers are better made than my previous store, Chums, unless you buy the premium price Chums stuff, which is more expensive that the trousers I just bought from White Rose.

Too heavy for Kane Steve, he would have to get Phil Jones to do it.?

Now, what a helluva game was Spain v. Portugal! First half Spain hardly in it but Portugal did not take enough advantage, then the human torpedo that is Diego Costa went through them. At Spain 3-2 up it looked over for the Portuguese, with Ronaldo looking invisible except when moaning about anything and everything. Up he steps with an incredible free kick that De Gea did not see until he turned to look at what everyone else had already noticed. Same De Gea who let the ball slip through his fingers for DC’s goal. If he has a drop in confidence, the Manc’s “Best Goalkeeper in the world” might be moved on by Mourinho next season. If The Special One is still there himself by then, that is.

Les, I have a Pioneer X-CM32BTD-K, ‘CD receiver System’:

                          http://tinyurl.com/y9rw45fn

Don’t these things have some unwieldy names now? Anyway, mine plays almost anything and is also plugged in to my record deck, for recording vinyl via USB. I can also record and/or stream stuff from the huge music library to a USB drive and play it all through the Pioneer there are RCA Line In sockets at the rear. It is a DAB + FM radio receiver, plugged into its own DAB antenna, but I also had a very good FM circular aerial fitted to the high-gain TV mast some years ago. That has its own FM socket at the rear and reception is great.

I have found that the stupid number of DAB stations that have grown in the UK, together with uncertain reproduction in most, has sent me back to FM. And I am appreciating the better, stable quality of FM reception and sound, plus all the stations we want to hear, are still on FM. The excessive numbers of demented, ad-infested DAB stuff just produced a divorce from DAB for me. It’s great to know that the government is not going to end FM for the foreseeable future: DAB cannot serve some areas well, including my own region, which has high TV masts and no mobile coverage whatsoever.

While on the subject of clothes: I bought a really nice all weather jacket on Sale at M&S, reduced to £49 from £95. This is what I found when I got home, why was I not stopped at the store exit? Could have saved £49 there, and some hassle removing the anti theft device, I will never make a shoplifter! Pic:

Mo was obviously heartbroken on the bench Steve, send him a Get Well card! Egypt were good technically, some good players, let down by not enough bodies upfront when they very occasionally broke from way back. Goalkeeper was magnificent, felt sorry for the guy. Thought Suarez was going to bite the legs of the guy who committed the Yellow card foul on him.

Les, Open Office and LO are still separate programmes. LO was started up by a few dev’s from Apache OO I think, who left to produce their own version. Never tried it myself as OO does what I need, but glad that you have managed to sort out your problem.

Ever get back to North Staffs lately? Not been for a while, my relatives over there getting fewer. Last time I went was about 8 years ago, visited Rudyard Lake, beautiful area.

I started using Dickies T-shirts and Polo’s, after a tip here (Dave Rice?) and have loads of them. Same price always for a bundle of “cheapos” often cheaper than those in Lee’s link. If they last a year each for one from a bundle, I’ll be happy. The better ones are thicker, much better quality, mostly cotton and are standing up to my ironing, which means they will be hard wearing. Supposed to be workwear, but are smart looking and the necks don’t sag, which is not true of the last M&S and FotL ones I bought a couple of years ago. I buy XL to cover the bulge of my parastomal hernia, which after losing 2 stone + is more noticeable. I get tired of explaining it is not a beergut and the explanation to some interfering goboffs, can make them ill. Preferably.

I am also getting fed up with buying new trousers, after dropping 2x waist sizes and 2x inside leg sizes (spinal problem). About to sell 6x pairs of High Waist 40″ Waist, 29″ leg trousers, all on local FB. 36″W & 27″ now fit, although still a bit baggy because of High Waist.

Not impressed with Uruguay from first half. Lee, I’m fairly sure that some high rank Saudi Mullah would have asked for special dispensation for their players. Certainly does not appear to have affected the Egyptians, who are full of running first half. Might be a few Alexandrian Orthodox Christians in the team, though. Oldest form of established Christianity, created in Ethiopia.

National pride beginning to overrule orthodox faith in all 3 main religions? Already happened in mostly-secular Britain, of course.

Single screw each side of the caddy frame I think Dave means, John. The SSD has mostly 4 threaded mounting holes and the screws go through the plastic caddy holes, use any 2, 4 if you are being ultra cautious, but unnecessary really. Videos HERE:

Nolan, when a long-time Motor Engineer and workshop foreman, previously an aircraft tech, I worked with some exotic and some heavy fuels and lubricants, in the days before thin latex gloves. Leaded Petrol, Avgas, Avtur, diesel, fancy aircraft lubes, and Trike (Trichlorethylene, now banned, used with bare hands as a degreaser) Trike fumes were toxic, we did not now that, may explain my breathing problems which only improved in my 50’s and finally went before 60. Crack detection of aircraft components, especially helicopter landing tubes and turbine blades, involved a deep red aerosol spray for which we were given face masks. As we were not given those for the Trike which occasionally made us choke, we always wondered: how bad is this stuff? In the motor trade, we blew out brake drums, shoes and discs with compressed air lines, asbestos braking materials on the pads and shoes. I started wearing face masks for that, got called a pansy (only once, until the miscreant realised he was getting the krappiest jobs I could find him. ?) I once had a half – tank of Land Rover diesel fuel dumped on my neck by an idiot with unsafe hands. I also once had a tiny piece of metal insert itself into my little finger. Before I could get it out, it went red. Next day I had a useless, swollen right arm and blood poisoning. The list goes on… don’t know how I am still here!

I stick my BBadge in my door pocket until I park, in the wallet which has the clock and badge showing. The iX20 has no badges showing 1.6 and 125 bhp, just the “iX20” bit, which produces some astonished looks when I zip away from the lights, etc. Corners well too, in fact for an auto 6-speed, I am more impressed than I thought I would be. Motability sales guy told me it was faster than the Premium above it, which was weighed down with electric seat motors and other gimmicks. Deposit was £500 less, too. It’s growing on me, but SWMBO moans that it is not as comfy as the Tucson, which of course she could no longer get into without lifting gear. (Sigh!) Can’t win.??

????, she looked more like Deidre Barlow or whatever her surname was after I last watched Corro about 1985. Same tragic look, same glasses.

I felt really sorry for the old lass actually, spent a long, wasted life wanting to be someone she wasn’t, couldn’t give up on it until I proved her wrong, which I really did not want to do. She was obviously well educated, (at Cambridge, Mathematics)  very well spoken and otherwise intelligent. I knew what it would do to her, and then to be taken in by a bent solicitor who only saw £ signs in a job he knew was not provable, must have been such a sad ending to that wasted life. She showed me old photos of her mum, an actress, in company with the PoW during the late 20’s or 30’s, before he became King and met the American divorcee Wallis Simpson. There were letters, not on Royal letterheads, signed just “Edward” or “Your darling Eddy”. We know now that Eddy VIII had loads of lovers in the 20’s and ’30’s, rumour was that he was AC/DC. Good job he abdicated before WWII, because he was also a closet Nazi. There were pic’s of him with Nazi leaders before the War and I have read accounts that suggest he may have acceded to surrender proposals which some British Parliamentarians wanted to make. Lord Halifax was the leader of this group of absolute Appeasers. Even Chamberlain was opposed to them.

                                          Another History lesson!??

Saudi Arabia were poor, made the Russians look good I think, however the Russians took their chances and had a crack at goal whenever they got near enough. They pressed the Saudis all the time, in their faces, never giving them a minute to play their slow, studied game. The Saudis must rely on midfield a lot in their own League, because that’s where they played for most of the game. When not passing back and playing their own half, that is. They will not go far.

Have to see the Russians against a better team, but I can’t see many teams will have a 5-0 starting game. Make me wrong, England!
