May be Zen, but also damned true.
Who is going to write the book in 20/30/40/50 years: “What happened to Britain?”
A lot of the population need to remove the blinkers and take a good hard look at the Real World. (Most of them work in Westminster.)

I'm out.In my case Nolan, C4 was damaged for 15 years before I got the correct diagnosis, treatment and surgery. It was gradually breaking up and tiny, scalpel-edged pieces (neurospinal surgeon’s description) were detaching and cutting into nerve sheaths and nerves. Which is why I became more and more paralysed and numb down left hand, arm and leg, for 15 years, thanks to previous diagnoses of that old medical chestnut, “Slipped Disc”. The surgery involved detaching the damaged C4 and nerves, positioning the broken C4 in a carbon fibre box made to replace the C4, replacing everything in situ pinned to C3 all via a long incision and several hours of deep, welcome unconsciousness. ?? Looking at the image from its left profile, you can see where the incision was, at a downward angle of approximately 35º, from behind my left ear to slightly left of Adam’s Apple. A very delicate operation, the sutures behind the ear for about 3″ were so fine that only a very faint scar remains: more evident up to the Apple. This all began with a fall into a Truck pit, not noticeable for some years until pain then pins & needles, then numbness and paralysis over several years. Now they think L4 and/or L5 may have some damage. Never rains but it floods!
On a brighter note, I have hugged, apologised and been instantly forgiven. I am married to the most understanding wife in creation, I can be a real PITA at times. Did I tell you that her mum’s maiden name was Griffiths? Still trying to find the Welsh roots.
EDIT: dumb of me, forgot the Pic:

No blood was spilled in displaying this image! ??

I'm out.Steve amongst all that was some very good sense and an effective summing up of the bloody mess our useless politicians have left us with.
I see the feelings behind your statements and I share the feelings and the meanings.
Ed, maybe all those truths need to be repeated until everyone understands what a mess we are going to be in within 12 months time.

I'm out. Thanks for those links, Nolan.
The YT video is particularly helpful and gave me to realise that the personal effects of my current problems are being made worse by a sudden increase in left side spinal pain, running down my leg. I think that has made me snappy with SWMBO, exacerbated by all the work we are doing atm. I have to hug, explain and apologise. ?
You do find some good stuff! Helped me/us anyway. Hope you find a light at the end of your tunnel, mate.

Amen to that, brother!

I'm out.Definitely a Bengal Nolan. My daughter used to live across the enclosed, shared green space from a lady who had one, but had to take it out on a lead. It would attack other cats, once chased a dog away. I understand from the ‘owner’ that you never know what you get with a Bengal: some are not aggressive and some are. Tell your mum to be careful if she has a cat or a small dog. My daughter has a lovely, quiet, affectionate cat which used to dive for home when the Bengal was about.

I have recommended Conn Iggulden books to locals and mates, they get hooked as well. Maybe I should ask his publisher for commission?

I'm out.I’m going the opposite way, chucking out stuff we have harboured for years. Shed has been part-stripped, had an outside storage box full of old paint and various decorating carp that we will never use. I was contemplating getting my son and gson to come and lift the shed out so I can get to the wet back wall, but the generous workman who took out our fireplace gave me some stuff to paint on the inside, that gradually works through to the outside and seals all the cracks. Put on the next layer, it waterproofs it. Thankful that my Magpie missus has given up saying “we might need this” and left my clearance efforts alone.
I have to start on my PC’s and components next, loads of stuff I will never use again, most of which is old tech. Files of “Help” printouts for various computing problems, most of which is in my head or retrievable anyway.
It’s all gotta go.

I'm out. This is what I made of the Elvis photo: imagine it as larger, not squared-off and the King surrounded by miserable American faces (because they were seated behind him in the Cheap Seats)

I will add a legend as a title above the pic: have just finished cheapo white undercoat to new plaster, returning to next coat now. My team is losing, so I’m off…???

I'm out.I just bought a battery for my original Wileyfox Swift as mine is on its way out and the new W(T)F company has kept no legacy parts. I asked Ali Baba if the wife’s original Spark could be supplied: they said no battery stock available. Sent my £4:28, parcel came to USA from China, then to me. Inside were TWO batteries, including SWMBO’s Spark. Both genuine, correct electronics, both marked Wileyfox. Both work fine. A note inside said the Spark battery was “a goodwill gesture.” I will not be leery of Ali Baba again.

I'm out.You are in a worse pickle than me, Dave! My ankle biters are now 48 and 50, theirs are 13 t0 24 and only the 13 yo comes to stay, usually no more than 2 nights when Mum & Dad are off somewhere. I look forward to granddaughter having a ‘sleepover’ though, as we can both go out together and indulge in some ‘daft granddad’ time.
But I once had the world’s Untidiest Son and got sick of picking up after him, clean & mucky stuff all over the bedroom floor, tools and parts everywhere. Came home from the garage for lunch, son at work: threw the lot out of the window. In the rain. Cue B********g from missus and son, but the threat to do that every time, cleaned up his act. Somewhat…
Has his own place, our senior Gdaughter left to live with BF and he is left with senior gson, who is just as untidy as he is. He has built 5 sheds on his backyard, gradual additions over the years to cope with all his Stationary Engines and associated projects. Backyard (very rural village) is littered with parts of engines and the cradles he makes to wheel them about.

I'm out. Thanks Bob I will put the tips on my list, I hope I never come across one in the home again. I never did see it it to pour salt on. The housing group fitted new windows recently, the fitters laid all the plastic/windows on the front lawn did it hitch a lift on a window/plastic trims?
Definitely! They turn into racing Slugs on a slick surface like that. I watched one on polythene once, went like the clappers before I salted the bugga.

I'm out.Marital pressure causing most of it Steve. My missus has not missed me getting better, so the Jobs List is dug up again.
You know how it goes…
But I don’t mind, because I really am feeling good atm. When I am OK, I have to be given some work to occupy me, or I would probably get into some kind of trouble.??

I'm out.A great reason to have a referendum to reject Brexit is that the EU are going to have permanent summer, no more winter times! Truly a statement worthy of the great Bojo dissembler! (link)
Read that this morning before setting out to the Crem and say goodbye to a great old mate, Ed.
That link will be Lead Balloon time up here in the North, especially Scotland. I suspect that Scandinavia will not be impressed either, despite Finland first proposing and putting the idea to a Petition. Now the EU is ignoring both the curvature of the planet and its axial rotation angle, which gives us our seasons. Bitter laughter from here, where our nights will be longer but winter days will be darker for longer. Not here, please: leave us alone with our Daylight Saving Time, EU bureaucrats.

I'm out.I got away with it, after a battle. The Elvis photo was a B&W shot taken from the ’68 US TV Comeback Special. It always looked odd, he was surrounded by an American audience, some of whom look indifferent, because it was “in the Round” and these were behind him, looking at the camera. The only damage was to the outside fringes, so I cut the whole thing to fit just The King into the black border of a 12″ x 12″ Wilko’s frame. It now looks better than it did before, just himself in black biker jacket.
I love it when a plan comes together better than I first envisaged it!??
Steve, I use IrfanView to edit and print my main photos. I use Google for others. here’s one from Mablethorpe RNLI Station:

I'm out.Dave, the investment is moving, has moved; East to the Humber Ports. Over here not a month goes by without a new European-based company moving in and planning more work. The daft thing is, this area of Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire voted disproportionately for Leave- go figure, as the Yanks say?. I was worried about my grandchildren’s future prospects if all these German, Danish, Norwegian and French companies left, but all are staying and have built and are working on some extensive projects. Engineering was always almost as big as agriculture in Lincolnshire, but is becoming bigger, especially since Siemens built a huge new Renewables factory on the Humber and matched that with a new Engineering campus at Lincoln Uni.
Kids here are getting opportunities never available before: new smaller supply factories are being setup. The knock on is expanding our county and even sleepy old Louth has a fast-expanding population, with new housing planned.
All we need now is for Central Gov to get off its backside and listen to our MP’s about our 20th century infrastructure to sort out our truck-choked roads, which need more dual carriageways and bypasses.
Even out of the EU, these firms are staying. The future looks good here, but who knows what will happen 20 years down the line?

I'm out.JB, salt kills them if you pour it onto the vile things. They shrivel up and croak, but only if you pour it directly onto them. Save eggshells, crumble them in large pieces and pour around any places they can get in, with the inner surface of the shell facing up. They can’t travel over the sharp pieces, it is painful for them: Slate sold in garden centres has the same effect, laid around your walls outside, but it is expensive. if you have a pet, don’t use slug pellets, they can eat them and be very ill.

I'm out.I’m currently wondering if I can use my 8″ Lenovo tablet as a Satnav, with Google and Android Auto. Tablet has a slot for a SIM, but only to receive messages, not send. Would I need that? Don’t need Speech as I just follow the maps, but it would be useful. It has a good camera too.
That would make one heck of a Satnav and even I could see all the info. Got me thinking now..

I'm out.Thanks guys.
Steve, I remember that Final very well. I was back in Germany in a local pub whose landlord was ex-Bündeswehr and liked Brit squaddies in his pub, crackers about English football, watched every English game he could see on German TV. Unfortunately they were not showing the game on German TV live, only highlights later. We listened to it around a Tranny radio: me. a mate from Hull and an absolutely bonkers old mate from Birkenhead, Danny Mc, still a phone & FB mate today and still crackers, never knew another bloke to know so much obscene language and fill his conversations with them all. ???? I have since seen the game and agree; great football from both sides, but the best team won. Liverpool seemed to get stronger and faster as the game wore on.
After the Forest-Newcastle saga above, there were 2 Geordies from our unit listening to the game as well. As you probably imagine, after each Liverpool goal I cheered. When they held up the Cup, I cheered. (A rare occurrence, me cheering another team ??) One of the Geordies came over and stuck out his hand: “Good game Bob, no hard feelings eh?” – then swung a punch which I mostly avoided. It was his last mistake, I had been wanting to punch him after he laughed about the Forest result when it happened. So I decked him and Danny did for his mate.
Gooodison was still a ramshackle old barn then, but I have to say that the Blue Meanies at the game, were (unusually) pleasant and actually wanted us to win. There was a very good chippy behind the Gwladys Street stand, a Chinese chippy which served fantastic Cod & chips. “You wan’ sal an vinga wi that?” So that was a bit of a consolation, good scran before the long, miserable trip home.

I'm out.Yes I have an ice scraper, blow me down that did work. It left a faint black scar, but that soon went with a sponge scourer. Problem solved

Have to report having the same potential problem JB: I am currently restoring my chimney breast surfaces after the fireplace was removed. Apart from TV and audio stuff, this meant removing a large black & white Elvis photo from the ’68 Comeback Special, the King dressed in a leather jacket. I am a bit concerned about taking this out of the frame atm, after reading what happened to you, because it was a pressie from my daughter. It has never fitted the all-glass frame properly: I think that a warning should be put on these frames about photos sticking to glass after some years.
