No Deal = No Trade = No money = Bankrupt Britain.

Hello IMF, can you put a little something in our hat please? Pretty please?

No, we don’t care what you take in return. Did we ever?

If TM PM is insane, it’s because she has been driven mad by the contrary, dissenting voices in her own Party and the constant drain of resignations from her Cabinet.

Her decision – making and her pathetic inability to take a strong line with both the EU and her own Party, have been inconsistent and incompetent. However, comparing the present situation with 1938, Hitler and Chamberlain, is facile and incorrect on many counts, including the mangling of history that Dave points out.

There is complete failure of politicians on all sides of the House to understand that they should have reached an agreement to find a solution and negotiate a better deal with the EU, as the Parliamentary representatives of those they serve, and not as a bunch of children arguing over whose ball it is, before the game begins.

We are still doomed. There are going to be some tough decades ahead.

We are doomed. It’s the kids I feel sorry for. They are going to have to deal with the aftermath for a long time. The present crop of ministers should make sure they have a foreign bolthole to escape to, because this next generation are boiling mad and will only get more hostile as the situation develops.

There is a complete failure to create a policy that would deal properly with the EU, by facing up to them and to the reactionaries at home. An ugly compromise that suits no one and solves nothing. A government whose right hand has never been in contact with its left. A PM who adopted the Maggie Policy of loudly declaring hers was the only way, whilst she must know that she is wrong. Too weak to change, to incompetent to find a better way.

Doomed. There will be financial collapse, shortages and price rises.

Thanks guys, the best thing about coming back (apart from my missus’ hugs and lamb chop dinner) was the shower. First proper shower in almost 2 weeks, I stood under the flow for ages.

Dave and Richard: in Grimsby hospital it is Lloyd’s Pharmacy running the service. They have a large Pharma ‘shop’ in the centre. The gradual, creeping privatisation of the NHS worries me, but this gov is determined to carry on with it. Apropos of nothing, I just learned that one of the biggest hospitals in the country, Queen’s Medical in my old birthplace of Nottingham, is £33 Million in debt and may be refused further funding. I know the place well, having been treated there when I was a Notts resident. It is a nightmare to navigate to the area you need, but it is also a centre of excellence in research and development of new treatments and medical technology.

I have discovered from the document concerning my meds and a timetable for taking them, the name of the condition I was suffering: Febrile Neutropenia:     http://tinyurl.com/y9jwbs5j

It lists the fever as being > 100.3ºF, or 37.95ºC. For my first week in Grimsby, I never went below 41ºC, or 105.8ºF. I gradually came down to 39ºC, then 37ºC, which is the ‘norm’ of 98ºF. For that first week, I was cold on the outer body and shivering, whilst having a high core temperature. I was shaking as if I had malaria and I felt really, really ill. I was permanently hooked up to an antibiotic drip and a liquid Paracetamol drip. I lost another few Kg and I still feel wobbly, keep expelling big lumps of nasty (fortunately dead) crap from nose and chest. This all stems from the chemo, which as others here will recognise, lowers the ability of the immune system to cope with infection.

I have gathered more medical education than I would have wished for…..???

Hello guys, I is returned to Williams Towers.

Apparently they killed the bug off yesterday, no problems today, the very nice Asian Doc gave me an “all clear” to come home. Everyone else did their job, I was washed and brushed-up, packed by 30 minutes after a lovely lunch of chicken & vegetable casserole. All that was left was Pharmaceuticals to sort out all the several dozen potions and pills I have to take now. By 3:30 pm no show from them. At 4:00 I went down there with Boss Nurse (caring, lovely, but you don’t mess with her!) and we sorted them out. By 4:45 I was in my little Hyundai and off home, after thanking Security for parking it under their office and looking after it. Each shift had been informed about my situation, I thanked those guys for their attention. My poor little iX20 had been sat outside under the weather and the security lights, but started on the button and soon got warm.

I have to complement Grimsby DPoW hospital staff (excepting Pharma layabouts) for the best of care from every (other) department: nothing was too much trouble. Food was all good, my only problems were caused by my prostate. I struggled to release myself from the pipes and machine when I needed the loo!

Back soon, but remember the internet trouble I had? Came home to find that BT OR had cabled us up properly, check these speeds out:

I get almost as much as No.1 gson, who is on BT Business Broadband.

Thank you all for your concern and good wishes, I could read but not login in hospital. Special thanks to Lee, who kept Forumites in touch with my problems. Hope you are recovered from your several disasters, Lee?

I get this with Brightview, a children’s and young person’s Toy and Science site. They were deaf to my pleas to take me off the database, then Youngest gdaughter took a look and realised there were some tasty Maths, Art & Science stuff on there. (She is a polymath)

This is approximately what I had as a workshop foreman:

Cost me a bomb to buy and set up, but I knew the boss/mate was paying for 50%.

The boss’s youngest son and I got along well, because he became a very good mech under my tutelage. His two elder brothers were Body men and very skilled too. at one time, that garage was my life: (as SWMBO never failed to tell me!) I still remember those days with great pleasure, a solid working life.

When I became disabled and out of the Trade, I sold the lot to my 3x great- (step) nephews for £500. Daft? No, they looked after us both for a long time, even after we got back on our feet they still ask if we want anything. Good, honest, hard working men.

Many thanks for the encouragement guys. Unfortunately there was a massive hiccup: got there and they told me it was cancelled and I should have had a letter telling me so. I received no such letter. “Oh it might be at home when you get back!”! Not a lot of good to me, show me the copy of the letter. “Can’t, it’s gone!” But you keep copies, don’t you?

I didn’t blow my cool: for one thing I had a 44 mile round journey fer nowt and I was not well again. So I went to Grimsby P.A.L.S. Office and asked them to look into it, with a view to finding the person who should have despatched the letter. They did find the guy, I found his desk and asked calmly where the copy of the letter was. “Can’t find it!” “You have not even looked, were you forewarned? Listen to me (calmly) : if that letter does not turn up within 2 days, at my home, there will be further action. I am a cancer patient and people like you do not appear to understand what that means. Get a grip!”

So now it’s next Wednesday. That had better happen!

NHS Admin is riddled with incompetence, IMHO. I will study the date on the letter (if it arrives) very carefully.

I have OTT navigation wasbit! I also take a map, stick my phone in the side window on Android Auto, have been known to put up the Satnav too. Map is for double check if something goes wrong, as in Roadworks not notified the day before. I spent too many years directing Exercise convoy packets around Germany, I think.

I use Bluetooth to setup my tablet if I’m waiting in the car for the missus. Which is often. Then I can read my Kindle books or watch videos. Car also uses Bluetooth to contact phone, which to my uneducated eye must mean that’s how it all hangs together. Maybe…

Get 4G in the house now thanks to the EE Brightbox: once we are out of the village and going towards Louth, we get 4G from the Mast. Unfortunately, going East the other way towards our son & daughter’s village, we get zilch again until a few miles later.

It was much, much better than I expected JCD. There were two former band members, not originals, but guys who played with them later for many years around the world. It was about as close as you can get to the sound and it was faithfully reproduced, I really enjoyed it. My missus only liked “Go Now” and the War of the World songs from Justin Hayward, but she is now a convert. That’s because their music, done properly live, sounds better than on CD or vinyl. Check them out:

The venue is Thoresby Hall in my old Nottinghamshire county, but they are touring again in February 2019. Thoresby is a very nice place to stay, a bit pricey but very comfortable.

I have always loved the Moody’s, they were so much different from anyone else. Going to see these guys on Saturday:

I particularly like Chris Farlowe, whom I met years ago at a Stones concert and is, IMO, the best of British Blues artists. Met Mike Pender about 25 years ago after a concert in another Notts venue about 5 miles from my village, after the Searchers had broken up and he was attempting to reform the band with other musicians. He signed a vinyl album for me. Amen Corner good basic Blues, SWB Jeans and Fourmost are of course original Merseybeat, same guys and still good last time I saw them. Today’s Searchers are really getting on now: John McNally (Lead guitar) is well over 70 now. I knew him through his cousin in the AAC, also named John, also played in an amateur band and I sang. The Germans liked us, we had a good few bookings, mainly because I talked my way into them.??

They are all getting on in years now. Aren’t we all?

                                    Yes happy Birthday Mark!

I am an ex-soldier with 12 years of service, in several areas of the world. But I don’t do Remembrance and I don’t do Reunions, or the Legion. All of these are great and wonderful activities and organisations, but I have several reasons for shunning them. I don’t like “collective” meetings, don’t like to hear the Last Post: it brings back too many powerful, upsetting emotions about mates I have lost and people I have seen killed and maimed. One mate was hit in the head by a device in Belfast and I was at his side. He spent his last years in a Cheshire Home, drooling into his shirt and completely incontinent. I don’t do reunions because there are too many ex-squaddies telling tall tales and exaggerating or lying about their service. The Legion is a fine organisation which helps many people, but the only two halls that I ever went to, had a good ration of liars.

I hope this does not upset anyone here: these are my true feelings. I have my own private memorial, whenever I see a War Memorial, outside of Remembrance Sunday, I take off my hat, bow my head, stand quietly and remember.

With reference to the alleged spy round ups, I have said it before but it clearly stands to be repeated, the recruitment of unskilled and possibly unsuitable staff to the so called intelligence service in the USA is a real stain on their personal management abilities. Their performance reminds me too much of an old Navy Lark script, but is that Google’s fault?

                                      Definitely not Richard!

A good reason why the USA rely so much upon UK Intelligence sources. As once expressed to me by a UK Int. spook in BAOR: “They could not find their (Rs’s) in the dark with a torch!”

I agree with Dave, it is defo not a myth, it is an actual reset. During the recent village blackout and dropouts caused by BT, I have witnessed repeated, agonisingly slow returns to the miserable 1.8 Mbps I now get. BT cut off my FTTC line from Plusnet, who had to put me and others onto ADSL. In our village, ADSL is like wading through treacle with weighted lead boots!

On the 15th I go back to Plusnet’s FTTC for a MGAL of 15.1. Can’t wait! Although the most noticeable effects of the low Download speed, is when I use Freesat On Demand. Particularly on BBC Final Score, or other BBC OD services. FS takes ages to load, lots of spinning circle. The Humax box is Ethernet-connected.

If and when Normal (?) Service is resumed, I will invest in a new VDSL router, probably this one:

VDSL v2.0, should be future proof.

BL, I remember my time with Sky Q and the horrible WiFi performance from that router, which I could not change for something better. Just 2x LAN ports, occasional Signal dropouts, loss of programme, dozens of channels I could not delete and never watched. I was on FTTC then, getting 15 Mbps. When I switched to Plusnet and Freesat, it was fine. Until current problems, that is, but BT are solely responsible for that. If all Sky services and channels were £5 a month, I would not buy.

Totally agree on several counts there Steve. I have a Parastomal Hernia and have been packing and disposing of my effluent since 2009 and it gets no easier, I know exactly how your missus feels! I was getting all kinds of emails and calls from different companies, then I informed each one that:

1- I had a very good supplier who delivered my stuff within 2 working days, after a Scrip was emailed from my Surgery.

2- if they did not stop calls & Emails, I would use Data Protection and have them officially stopped, probably with a reprimand. It all stopped, but the Surgery Dispensary made so many mistakes over the years, that I almost lost my cool, reported them to NHS and it all changed. Now I order online and leave instructions in a Message Box that tells them what to do: ‘Please Fax or Email the scrip to (my supplier) DIRECT and they will deliver.

I don’t care who takes an interest in my life, who decides to listen to my calls, messages, texts, Emails or whatever. If they want to waste their time and electronic resources on my boring Oldphart life, they are welcome. The thought of some Russian or Chinese Int. Officer with headphones on and Listening Station employed to spy on my doings, just breaks me up. The thought of my own country doing that is uncomfortable, but let them squirrel away whatever they want. There is still Free Space in my head, the Thought Police are not there yet.

I found the Brightbox easy to setup and just capable of being left alone to get on with it, it just keeps on working and keeps our phones receiving 4G, 24/7. This cannot be said of all devices!

I hope you firmly instructed your friend to leave everything alone to get on with it. I speak from experience, having been to the IT aid of several friends and neighbours. Two disregarded my verbal instructions (also left as printed documents). I returned, fixed again and stated that I would not return again to help EVER, if they continued to mess around with what was working fine. One did not learn and had to employ someone: hope it was expensive. T’other has not bothered me except to say it’s all working well, whenever I see her. Nowadays I refuse categorically to offer any IT advice or help, exceptions being family and one close, infirm, housebound friend who takes in parcels and messages for us when we are out.

mine is high on a bookcase top..” – If I could get them to put stuff out of reach (except for isolation/ power on/off switching) I would set that up on a wall or ceiling! Out of reach is good, sole exception being the one who turns it all off before going to bed. Wonders why he does not get the speed he should all the time, I expect. Or is oblivious, which may be more to the point.

We found the same good service you speak of, at the Grimsby EE shop when we bought our Wileyfox phones and transferred from Orange to full cream EE status.
