Nice one Ed. Back in 2008, we went on a Rhine cruise in reverse, taking a coach to Breisach near Switzerland and returning via Holland. Before we left Holland, we stopped at a “Cheese and Clog factory” where we met this guy, photographed with my Dianne:
He boarded our coach before we left and gave us two messages: “England, keep the Pound!” and “Perhaps you should not have joined!” We found all the Dutch people we met to be very friendly, but so were the the Germans we met. I recall making a beeline for a hot Bratwurst stall in Wesel Markt and enjoying a Röst Bratwürst mit Zemf ” (German mustard, nice and mild.) Made me dig for that pic and reminded me of a lovely holiday. We love River Cruising. We still have two pairs of clogs somewhere, engraved “Bob” and “Dianne”. Never worn them, who needs splinters in their feet?

I'm out. Thanks guys, big mention for Lee. Sorry about the home phone call, made the next to your mobile.
Actually, it was a resurgence of the previous infection and I learned more about it from a very young but efficient consultant who signed my discharge at 10:00 today*. During the previous stay of two weeks, I had kept mentioning the blood and scabs coming down from my sinuses, receiving only platitudes and disregard for my words. At my discharge interview this am, the young consultant informed me that I had “Sinusitis which developed into a deep-seated infection.” He had prescribed the powerful intravenous antibiotics which wiped it out: he said that I had not been given good alternatives for a Penicillin-allergic patient and I watched as he collated all my information, then spent some time obviously deep in thought about medication choices. The infection was responsible for my inability to eat, sleep and walk, having taking up residence in my system. TBH guys, when I went in this time I felt like crap. After just 2 days of his prescription, I was eating, sleeping and off walking a long hospital corridor, doing my old Army leg exercises on the bed. This morning after breakfast I did the walk 4 times on the trot, turning (Right about, Steve!) at the ward ends and repeating. After lunch I did it 5 times. I now feel better than I have done for ages and will hopefully resume walking the countryside again at home.
*I learned that all the medical and medication information was at the Pharmacy by 10:45, so they knew what medication to issue. It still took from then to 17:00 this evening to get the last item, and the ward Staff Nurse actually went down and rushed that through. Same thing happened at my previous discharge: I have made an official complaint against Lloyd’s Pharmacy, specifically stating that it was nothing to do with the nursing care, which was excellent as usual.
Ed Wrote:
” Hospitals like a quiet ward if they can arrange it, so most will get thrown out – unless they forget you! ”
The nursing staff didn’t forget me Ed, it was the Private company running the Pharmacy. I had some choice words for the Pharma person who came up with the Staff Nurse to bring the last item. I think he intended to whinge about me causing him hassle. He got as far as opening his mouth, before I asked him very firmly, why it took almost 7 hours to get all my medication together. Exit one Pharmacist, red faced, Stage left.
A word of praise for the food, which was first class. Never had a bad meal at Grimsby DPoW Hospital.

I'm out.My daughter cannot stand the sight of blood or to be injected, she usually faints. (which is helpful, lol!) When she has had to come see me in various hospitals and wards, I could see her blanch at all the stuff hanging off various parts of me. Which is why I loved her so much for coming anyway, and told her so. But if someone came to take blood, she would have to leave until done.
Strangely enough, her daughter our 13 yo gdaughter is unmoved and actually wants to know what’s happening. That probably comes from her dad, who has had to catch mum a few times when she faints.
Son says he can stand the sight of anyone’s blood but his own.
EDIT: Richard if I say “Steve” it means The Duke. I refer to the other Steve as “Stevie P.” Hope that clears it up, but no worries.

I'm out.tadka, if you haven’t tried these, take a look:
I get all my shoes there now and they are a really good company. No hassle returns, quality stuff throughout the Menswear range. I get my High Waist trousers there too and they always fit.

I'm out. Will that work with a 1TB drive spinner (old/current system) transferring to a 480GB SSD? I may then look for a smaller case, as all I will have in there would be the SSD: the DVDRW is going, I cannot recall when I last used it and I have a portable USB Sony DVDRW for emergencies anyway. Checking ‘C’ drive Properties, I am only using 128 GB of the 1TB. Wasted space in a mechanical device subject to wear? No thank you, going SSD. Spinner is a WDC, probably about 3 years old now. I have the NAS and an external USB caddy, both with 2TB spinners, both new.
If I can find a suitable smaller case, I will give up on buying a laptop. I love the HP HD monitor in here and would want to use it with the smaller case. My No.2 grandson is hoovering up any cases, parts, etc and will take this case. I think he and his mate are putting together systems for sale. Told him that’s a blind alley, but let him learn the hard way!
Any advice, thanks guys.

I'm out.I just had one of those “fill up” moments. I had told our lovely neighbour about ringing the bell in the cancer suite to announce my All Clear. Yesterday she lost the last of her two white Westie’s, a lovely old dog who was almost blind an deaf but always recognised my smell and submitted to being stroked. Later she came round with a small gift: a tiny golden bell to remind me. I was completely overcome. She burst into tears over the dog and I asked my Dianne to give her a big hug. I would not do it, as Nasty Neighbours over the road were watching and they are scandalising morons.
I have it over the PC on the NAS shelf:

And yes, I love American Muscle Cars! Always wanted a ’67 Pontiac GTO or a ’68 Fastback Mustang in Prairie Gold. That pic is a much-modded Chevy Camaro SS.

I'm out.I agree. Don’t we get enough of people having a nasty go at each other in the media and (worse) in the pub?
It seems my area has become a bit of a football here. Let me explain a bit: The whole of Lincolnshire has a much smaller proportion of Ethnic cultures, than the rest of the UK. East Lyndsey has an even smaller proportion. They are not made unwelcome, but the only ones we get are in the NHS and I for one am deeply grateful for them. Why, there were even two Scots Lassies in my Chemo treatment suite! (Joke, OK?)
Most of the Primary schools, especially in villages, are C of E. Whatever your opinion of religion, and I am an atheist, the fact is that they give the kids a very good grounding. The problems, if any, begin when they enter Secondary Education. All of my grandkids attended C of E Primaries except one. He was at Mablethorpe Primary, was and remains Dyslexic, and received none of the promised one to one help. His Asperger’s cousin attended a C of E Primary in another village and I have talked about his progress before on here. He had a permanent 1 to 1 tutor/advisor, who had learned about all forms of Autism and helped him so much to survive and prosper in a large Technical College.
You can travel through East Lyndsey to see England and Lincolnshire flags everywhere. It is an area that contributes greatly towards the almost 70% of British food produced in Lincolnshire. Tourism is growing, but it remains a Farming economy and many farms go way back through generations of owners, with recognisably English names.
In short, it is an area that is quintessentially English. The people are very proud of this, extremely patriotic and very Tory. When they vote, they are not casting a vote for or against British Exit: they are voting for their England to leave the EU. I think they are wrong, but they are a democratic majority.
Engxit! Victoria Atkins does not understand this of course. She talks about “My constituents” but has struggled to understand some of us, in public and before the Media Eye. Her much-missed predecessor was a local man, Sir Peter Tapsell knew us well and I was content to vote for him twice. That comes from a lifelong, now disillusioned Socialist.

I'm out.You know how to do that yes ?
Hopefully, but shelving it for now until after the commercial madness that Christmas has become. I will celebrate the Equinox with a couple of like-minded friends, if I can get up to the local forest, which has a very ancient clearing where the Sun rises straight through a gap in two equally ancient, unevenly-shaped lumps of rock. Not Standing Stones, they are huge lumps. Whether placed there in that position by huge efforts of many people, or a natural fixture, no one knows. Most people don’t know about it, which is great as it keeps away the nutters. Many of my old friends who passed on the information are gone. I have told 2 grandchildren, not interested but may remember later.

I'm out.Victoria Atkins can afford to be heavily censured with her majority, and so can a lot of the rest on that list. I’m still not sure what the thoughts of <0.5% of the electorate show about anything. If 48% can be ignored why should the tiny percentage of hard liners be listened to?
That’s my MP Dave. She was absolutely taken aback to receive lots of angry correspondence, mail and electronic, after her advice to her constituents to vote Remain. The following Leave landslide shocked her I think. Since shortly after that, she has never stopped working to resolve local issues, ensuring that the media are there to record her Good Works. She has risen in the Tory ranks, was a Cameron favourite and is now a favourite of the current PM. As an ex-Barrister, she has had a hand in much government legislation. Which demonstrates her ineptitude. Given a Hard Brexit, after a collapse of government, she may either wind up as Party Leader, or tootle off back to Lancashire. Whatever the outcome, people in Louth and Horncastle, East Lyndsey, always vote Tory. Except for at least me: I look at the contenders, research them and vote for the best of the bunch as I see it. Voting for the person, not the Party.
Your last comment is totally relevant and I agree with it entirely.

I'm out.I’m like that Steve: as you can probably imagine, this year has been all about needles. I don’t mind them, I can watch them going in and whatever comes out or goes in does not bother me. But I think I would have trouble doing it myself. Having said that, it comes down to “This will save my life. Do I want to live or not?”

I'm out.Well I wound up in a 3-cornered ‘dispute’ between me,the cancer ward and suite, and the GP. Eventually the GP “lost” and I had a Surgery appointment this morning at 10:50. Turned out to be with a Nurse Practitioner and I was not best pleased, until she turned out to be the most useful, efficient and caring of all. She listened. Yes, listened, which is more than her so-called superiors did. She acted upon everything I told her and she examined me with care, then offered me a course of antibiotics, after checking that they did not conflict with what I am taking. She took my bloods and urine and took the urine to be analysed, taking the bloods for analysis and results later. Put my mind at rest by saying the urine was clear of blood or anything else: something I had worried about until this morning when it ran clear.
Stevie P I can relate to that: having CT & MRI scans for Prostate in January, to find there was nothing wrong except for an enlarged prostate, BUT there was cancer in Pancreas tail and Spleen was full of it. I can still recall that hollow feeling, something totally unexpected and scary: I had seen my dad, grandad, brother, 2 nephews, a great FIL, all die of cancer in various forms. A really awful operation removed the pancreas tail and the spleen, but further scans later showed that I had Lymphatic cancer. Six months of Chemo “fixed” that, then a couple of weeks later I was in the cancer ward again with an infection that earned me a one-person ward. I wish you all the best for a recovery Stevie.
Richard, I hope you soon recover from this latest episode, plenty of fluids and many boxes of tissues!
Steve I hope the family recover soon. As I recall, your youngest likes Unicorns. Here’s something to cheer her up: found in Morrisons. –

First one is a bit blurry, steadied my shaking hands to take the next. Looks like the love-child of “My Little Pony” and a unicorn!?

I'm out.Do you want to actually move any files or just have them appear under My Pictures ?
Relevant WoF, that’s exactly what I want to do.
All other replies: thank you very much. Going to consider my actions carefully, probably put everything in My Pictures as that is backed up twice: on the NAS and a new 2TB spinner in an external Hdd.

I'm out.I may have taken a few steps back over the last week. Initially I had 3 days of constipation, which for a Stoma sufferer is no picnic! Severe pain across the whole of the abdomen, followed by a whole day of full pouches: 3 changes in a day is not normal. I have been feeling “bloomin’ crook” as my much-missed Aussie mate Vic would say. By a lucky coincidence, today I have a first appointment with a Stoma Nurse in several years. I will unburden myself upon this lady because it is a quicker way to see a GP at our Surgery. I think they view it as ‘Can’t handle this, I’ll fetch a Doctor.’
Massive wind problems, still have stomach pain, no energy, tired all the time. I could not make my Oncology consultant understand that there is something else happening: “Take some exercise, that will increase your energy levels.” Well Doc, I would love to do that, but every time I set off, I was so exhausted so quickly. I think, outside of their field of expertise, they don’t want to know.
