If my missus did anything with her (original Mk.I) Kindle other than just read books, that might be useful for her BL. as it is, she won’t consider any other function.
You’re right about Pocket though, it’s very useful and it was Steve who first put me on to it. Got it on my phone, tablet and desktop, also installed on SWMBO’s laptop, although she still just saves webpages in Firefox. Resistant to anything different and/or new, my missus.
Pocket is now part of Firefox.

I'm out.If they do manage to remove TM PM Keith, what alternatives are there amongst the squabbling, divided rabble that was once the Conservative Party?
If you say BoJo again I shall doubt your sanity!

I'm out.Les my slightly older cousin Alan Peach from Porthill had Rheumatic Fever. He was more than a cousin, more of an older brother: I spent a lot of time over in N.Staffs over my younger years, with him and my cousin Bill from Wolstanton, all 3 of us maternal cousins. Alan contracted the fever after jumping in the Etruria Canal to rescue a drowning puppy, one of 5 in a bag with a brick, obviously intended to kill all 5. All 5 survived, which made our Al glad, he loved animals.
He married and had a son and daughter, but in his early 30’s developed serious heart problems. As this was long before transplants were carried out from human donors, he had 3 separate surgeries to replace leaking valves with pig equivalents. I was on leave from the Army shortly before his 4th op was due and went to see him, something I did every time I came home on leave. As I got ready to drive home, he said “I’ll show thee a shortcut our Bob.” I was puzzled: he knew how many years I had been driving between Notts and Staffs and he knew that I probably knew all the roads and routes better than he did. But something in his voice and face told me to let him drive in front and he went the tried and trusted route, pulling over in a layby near Ashbourne. I got out and he put out his hand, “I shan’t see thee again cuz.” I was obviously affected, even though he was very thin, he still seemed OK. “Don’t be daft our Al – you’ll be here next time I come over.”
But he told me he had nothing left and could not see himself surviving the last op. Apparently one of the pig valves was failing, so he might need two. We hugged and I left, driving through what appeared to be a blurred windscreen. Next month my dad wrote and told me had not made it. If heart transplants had been in operation then, with two kids he would have been at the front of the queue I think. If they had not talked him into the pig valves, he might have survived just as you have.
Whenever I contact his son nowadays, I am reminded of his dad. His 6’4″ son left the Army as an RSM, Alan would have been very proud of him.

I'm out.To anyone and everyone looking for the possibility of something better in UK politics: check out The Independent Group.
I have signed up and am supporting them. I am so sick and tired of the same old carp from the same old talking heads. If these guys can make a real difference, I will continue to support them. Take a look at “Read Our Statement.”

I'm out.Two jumps ending in bad landings are probably responsible for some of my spinal problems, exacerbated by an industrial injury and Ricketts in early life. I wore leg irons and big boots for my first years, as did my elder brother, who was determined that I should get over it as he did. He got me on a bike and on roller skates, which got my legs working after several painful falls. He and my dad are responsible for me becoming a runner eventually, they pushed and pushed me. I bless their memory, they gave me the ability to have a great life and perform physically far better than I might have done. Although I was often in tears of despair at all their efforts!
What I have experienced, can never be taken away, as long as my memories last.

I'm out.If you get migraine Les, you have my sympathy: I was struck down with those after a bad injury some years ago, only after an RAMC doctor sent me for a scan was the problem found and solved. A tiny sliver of bone in my sinus was intermittently contacting a nerve, was removed and my nose re-sectioned. I have never forgotten that pain. There is apparently a relief from symptoms:
Although I don’t know how cold the Irish Sea might be at this time of the year!
Glad you like the reader, Happy Reading!

I'm out.Dwynne I agree with every word of that. The result should have led to Parliament getting together as a voice of and for the whole of the British people and presenting a united front to find the best way forward. Instead, we have had the totally disgusting, unedifying spectacle of MP’s attempting to form power bases and improve what they see as their own standing. All they have achieved is a political mess, their constituents largely repelled and looking for something better.
I am as fed up with the whole odorous, incompetently organised process as yourself and I should think 99% of the UK. I also voted Remain as I shared your feelings that your kids would be better off in than out. Now I just want it all to end.
More problems for the EU: when the German economy catches a cold, the EU sneezes:
This is not over yet. I know Germany and I know the German people. The thoughts of a depression haunts them.

I'm out.Yes very good Ed. ? Always disliked the Guardian.
Never mind, we will always have the memory of two of these:

And the memories of the flawed genius holding one of them.

I'm out.Churchill may have committed several errors in his lifetime, but he was indisputably intelligent. Boris Johnson is not. He is the complete Public School buffoon. We think we have a bad PM now: less than six months of BoJo would have us wishing for TM back.

I'm out.Ed:
” the brain is one of the larger consumers of energy in the human body.
[edit] it has since been shown that accumulating data also has an entropy value. ”
Might be a factor in the existence and apparent growth of Alzheimers and dementia amongst the population, Ed. May sound cruel, but I don’t think my brother’s dementia was caused by accumulating data though. You had to know him before he was stricken with the dementia, to understand that: I am not being unkind in saying that he lived always for the moment and had very few hobbies and interests that did not include a good long swim, a holiday in the sun, or several beers. Or a combination of at least two of those factors.
Being trapped in a commode chair and trapped inside his own body, mind long since departed from brain, is the worst kind of entropy.

I'm out.Nolan it’s the osteoarthritis that led to aggravating my spinal injury and shortened my height by almost 2″.
I hope you are feeling less pain very soon mate.

I'm out.You have that correct Steve, see the Wiki link:
1911, my dad would have been 7 years old, granddad 35 and as a founder member of the Independent Labour Party, he was probably involved in some way. An even better link to that time here, with the great Bessie Braddock:
How our ancestors fought in those days, for rights that are now being given up or gradually taken away!

I'm out.My missus has Fibromyalgia Nolan, has suffered with it for years. Unfortunately the injections did nothing for her. Last January she had a new hip and I have taken her back to the GP several times after the pain has not subsided with time. GP has sent her for Physio, (made it worse) ultrasound and now he has fixed an MRI scan for next week. The consultant who gave her the new hip was insistent that nothing was wrong: said once that she had “soft bones”. I asked for a medical definition of that, to include in a diagnosis, which appeared to upset him. I have to say that our GP’s are very good, they always support us in dealing with their supposed ‘betters’.
It’s the Rheumatoid that is tormenting me atm: fingers and toes are really painful. I need some sun!

I'm out.Intriguing, Keith.
I have old components, gadgets and devices that I cannot bring myself to dump. Until last year I had even more similar stuff, then I began a search for something* and it turned into one of those “Why am I keeping this carp?” episodes. I took a lot of the carp to the bin, after attempting to sell some, reality kicked in with No Sale and the rest joined it at the local WEE centre. This led to the outdoors, when we began a major redesign of the garden. Two huge conifers and several bushes were felled, roots dug out by a local firm, turf laid, new fence, new bird boxes, old ones disposed of. Now I am looking at my rotting shed and hoping to get it replaced later in the year.
After all my medical problems and losing various bits of my deteriorating bod, I have to agree with you that we are as subject to entropy as anything else.
*’something‘ was two sticks of DDR2, an old mate with an XP PC inherited from Noah needed replacements. It did not work in his machine, joined first the Sale items, then the No Sale items and was WEE’d.
Entropy is best considered without reference to nostalgia, I think.

I'm out.Churchill isn’t loved that much in Liverpool either.
Why is that Steve? I know my dad and granddad both hated the man, for reasons connected with the 1910 Miners’ Strike and the 1921* and 1926 General Strikes. Dad told me that Churchill, acting as Secretary of State for War, had the Army fire on some strikers, but can’t remember which city dad talked about.
That very long Wiki article about him, shows his many mistakes, some of which were critical. It also demonstrates his unshakeable belief in the British Empire and the British ruling class, at a time when both were being questioned and resisted by modernisers and the growth of the Labour Movement and the unions.
*You won’t find that mentioned anywhere, but dad always said that it was worse than ’26. Lots of strikers killed.

I'm out.We need a new political party, with a strong and determined leader, to speak for us all in this country. Sadly, it may take a revolution to bring about effective change. Change like that is never achieved without bloodshed and great disturbances. The whole political and economic structure of the UK, needs to be picked apart and reassembled. The hidden Establishment represented by the Civil Service mandarins, needs to be unseated from its power base.
I fear for the future of my country and I feel for our descendants who are going to have to live in a nation far removed from even its present economic and political influence in the world. I just wonder how far the British people will be pushed, before realistic change happens.

I'm out. Thanks Ed. You’re right, Spreewald was in the inaccessible East for me then. I will contact Rolf at the weekend and ask if he eats gherkins still and if they are from Spreewald. Although he does suffer a bit from the old FRG West German attitude towards products (and sometimes people) from the former DDR.
Personally, I cannot stand gherkins, but each to their own!

I'm out.Good luck with them Dan. I had a few teething troubles with my missus’ two at first. Mostly the daughter, who is now the most affectionate, caring daughter I could wish for. After I dragged her out of a night club at 16, after 2 am, she didn’t speak to me for a week. Last year, with a 13 yo daughter of her own, she said thanks and understood why. Our son was and is the most laid back lad you could meet, but quizzed me about what I represented to his mum, sister and himself. I said, “I am just going to be myself, I love your mum and am fond of you two. Let’s just see what happens, because I won’t stop being me and none of you have to change, although we may have to adapt to each other.”
Now he is my Mr. Reliable: no one had a better son and we are very close. All I can say is, just be yourself.

I'm out.I believe that this Forum is a good reflection of sensible, reasonable, intelligent people across the nation. That being correct, I further believe that the vast majority of the British people now see the real enemy as their own politicians, and not just the EU. They are incompetent, divided, self-justifying, ambitious and power-hungry. Maybe this is what we need to unite Leavers and Remainers?
This might be his opinion of them:
