Yesterday my missus attended an appointment with a new consultant, to attempt further diagnosis of pain from the hip replacement that was carried out in January last year. 2018 being out own Annus Horribilis, when SWMBO had her new hip and I had the cancer op in April and chemo.

Three previous consultants, including the one who carried out the op, have refused to consider that it was a result of the op. Instead, several different scenarios were proposed, including ‘muscular’, ‘lower back’ and ‘a blood clot’. One by one these were discounted, until we met with this new chap, possibly Portuguese. He asked for a day’s delay before the appointment, so that he could consult all my wife’s notes. When we arrived, he had obviously used that day well, because he stated, after examining her, that it was in his opinion, a result of the operation. He discounted all other causes, listing treatment, tests, scans and ultrasound which proved unequivocally that it was the op. He recorded his decision and recommendations into his Dictaphone.

To say both of us are relieved is an understatement, but I cannot believe it has taken more than 12 months and 4 consultants to get us to this point. It has been growing more and more difficult for my wife to accompany me on our walks. She struggles to rise from sitting and then struggles to walk across the room. There does not appear to have been any consistency from these people and it strikes me that this latest chap was the only one to really read and digest her notes.

Now I have to hope that I stay well when she probably has to go for the op again, because I will have to do everything there is to do in the house again and look after my courageous missus: not a difficult job in itself, but complicated by not doing things the way she would!

I cannot help but contrast the wonderful treatment and help I received during my own problems, with the offhand treatment my wife has received.

Hope it does give you pain relief Nolan. And continues to do so.

I have an unusual date for 3 CT scans, which will hopefully provide me with the right verdict after my problems last year. The unusual part is that it is an appointment for Sunday May 26th: Bank Holiday Sunday. I know I am much better, because I am putting on some of the weight I lost. Thoughts on that:

*You have lost weight due to illness when you have to buy new trousers.

*You are putting the weight back on, when the new trousers become tight. (Sigh!)

*You are still replacing weight loss, when the old trousers do not fall to the floor. (Heavy sigh!)??

Thanks for that Ed. I can now give my neighbour down the road another reason why Mc.Crappy is garbage and not to be trusted. Not surprised about them or Symantec, but a bit surprised about Trend Micro. Never used them, but thought their rep was good.

I am NOT helping this neighbour remove McC and/or install something else: have spent too may times digging him out before and he listens but never takes it in.

Back when John Logie Baird’s black and white idea was fairly new, I had a mate whose dad bought a magnifying screen for their TV, which had a screen of 21″ or thereabouts, IIRC. Certainly not as tiny as my brother’s 14″ Vidor, a good bit bigger. The magnifier assembly was screwed to the edges of the screen with a framework and almost obscured some controls. It made the picture almost ‘goldfish bowl’ shape, but no comment was allowed as my mate’s dad was a big drunken control freak and he had bought the thing: you did not oppose this bloke, or denigrate anything he possessed. No idea why he thought it was a good idea, as the set was a nice Ferguson and the picture was very good.

A plot was in order, with a cast of 3 other mates. Waiting until his dad was well into a pub session and mam shopping in Mansfield, we made sure that all of us were seen in a local beauty spot, sneaked back while his dad was at work, removed and dumped it back at the spot again, where it would never be found. We messed up the lounge as if for a break – in before we transported it. His dad came home so plastered, missed all the mess and went to bed. His mam apparently found the mess and woke dad, who raged about thieves, called the police but did not suspect a thing.

We kids used to stand up for each other and we still do now we are older: still in touch with the survivors. Most of whom are women, of course. Mate’s dad eventually died in his 40’s of a heart attack and the fainting attacks his son was prone to at school, stopped. So did his bruises. Pit village solidarity, long gone.

Currently tormenting my misguided Man U supporting nephew about his anti-Liverpool FB posts. He has not been back since I said this:

Blue Mancs spend lots of money and put together a team that wins PL by ONE point and may win a Treble. Liverpool spend lots of money and lose PL by ONE point, and are in Euro Final for SECOND year. Red Mancs spend lots of money and win… nothing. All neutrals love to watch the first two teams play.

Remind me again, who spent their money wisely and actually built a TEAM?

Silly boy. Rest of family not talking to him since he made some nasty anti-Forest comments. Some have actually blocked him.

Worse than that JCD: Yesterday we went to Cleethorpes and it was a perfectly clear day. So clear that we could see East Yorkshire on the other bank very clearly. We had to go into Papas for some excellent fish ‘n’ chips, to get over the shock.??

That pic is from Feb 2018. Yesterday we had a 20 minute wait for a table, last Bank Holiday it was 45 mins so we went elsewhere. Very popular place.

It will be a heck of a game though, BL. Two teams that have shown they can play great football, although Spurs cannot match Liverpool’s pressing game on their day. Two teams that do not know when they are beaten, either.

Having said that, my mate and his family in High Barnet are all Gooners and they support your wish for a life not pestered by any Spurs triumph. They are all good pals so I have to go along with that, and their desire to win the Europa (Mickey Mouse) Cup.

I have read that Doggerland was originally the site of a river that would rival the Nile: it joined the Rhine to the Thames. What a sight that would have been!

The renourishment of Lincolnshire beaches is due to begin again this year:

The area covered by the scheme is my “stamping ground” and I will be doing my best to visit, photograph and present here whenever possible. A little ironic that it starts on what would have been my mother’s 119th birthday. Mam hated the East Coast and loved Blackpool. Dad and I loved the East coast and fished it from Scarborough regularly, using the same boat and skipper for years. My old dad would have loved all this! Tomorrow, or shortly after, I will take the camera out.

The ‘best’ scam we have been subject to, from about 4 or 5 years ago, was supposedly from my missus’ cousin in Thailand. Can’t recall it verbatim, but basically they were desperate for funds in Bangkok, having had all their money stolen from clothes on the beach whilst windsurfing.

We phoned them in South Lincs and had a good laugh for several reasons:

*They are older than us and windsurfing had been beyond them (and us!) for years.

*We had just returned a couple of days before the ‘desperate’ email, from a big celebration at their home.

*They are definitely not the people to leave anything on the beach!

Sadly, the cousin, a very good and very funny mate, passed away a little over two years ago, but we still have a chuckle over this with his widow.

Nolan you can put that threat in the same place that I put the two offers of  $1,000’s offered to me over the last few weeks. And the offer of marriage from someone called ‘Dolloress’. All I had to do for Dolloress’ hand, was send $5,000 to her bank. Or someone’s bank. I don’t believe SWMBO would allow that, so I had to pass.

Thanks for that Ed, great read as you knew it would be for me. I think that the researchers should check out the Lincolnshire coast as well, although I am loath to see even the professional archaeologists picking up “my” flint tools and knappings! I know a guy who works the windfarms and gets in a little – ahem – ‘lost fish’ retrieval at the same time. He tells me that he has found a lot of interesting stuff whilst engaged in this – erm – activity.

A few years ago I met the Dutch foreman of the Coast Renourishment team working our local beaches, pumping sand from far out and piling it up the beaches to make a bulwark against erosion.*  This gentleman and I have corresponded occasionally and he tells me that they have trawled up Rhino horn, Mammoth tusks, huge deer antlers and literally thousands of flint tools and knappings. We have the tools to remake civilisation on our doorstep! Well, our beaches, anyhow.

Graham, you may be interested to learn that the local routes back from the coast hereabouts, have red-signposted routes marked to help us escape flooding. If Global warming turns out to be as bad as predicted, you could paddle your canoe from Leicestershire to the Lincolnshire Islands. Which would have been the Lincolnshire Wolds of course. We will, however be ready for immigrants and will employ the usual obstacles to protect ourselves.??

*This work has been ongoing for many years now and the results are outstanding: Maram Grass has taken root and dunes have formed around the grass, which is spreading more each year. The spring tides have not killed it, the seas just drain back through the compacted sand dunes, which is a much better than the original Sea Walls. Which are now completely buried at some depth. I remember coming to this coast many years ago and watching the sea break over the sea wall. Today the tide is much farther out.

What also helps is the coastal erosion further north, which is very slowly adding coastline to Lincolnshire.

Sorry Yorkshire, that must be the law of unintended consequences. Nowt to do wi’ us, honest.

Nolan and Graham: I managed to remove it by contacting Yandex via Email direct, so no necessity for a Reset. Although that is what I was prepared to do, before I carried out my usual research and discovered that there was no one behind it wearing a black hat. (even though the guy who answered me in perfect, courteous English, was named Vladimir!) Incidentally, my Spellchecker wants to call it Spandex, which conjures up a horrible picture of Vladimir Putin wearing — no. I’m not going there, thank you!

Steve, BL has it correct I think, dragged in with the Cyanogen update. I realise now I have looked into it that it is a responsible company and is actually one of the world’s top browsers; did not know that. What put me off it was the amount of ads in the News service. I get Google, Reuters and BBC news, plus I dive into the Independent now and again. All of these together (discounting the BBC of course) do not give me 5% of the ads I met in Yandex.

I was a Cold War soldier in BAOR: it is difficult for me to trust anything Russian. For the 8 years I was there, my units faced them and their erstwhile allies across the Oder-Neisse line. We used to be there for weeks sometimes, after ’emergencies’ blew up. (some of which were not recorded back home) It was so boring after a while that we organised a “Mooning Display” which spread amongst BAOR troops. The Bundeswehr lads were horrified and disgusted by this display, which only made it more fun!

We were once punished by having to wear NBC suits for 48 hours. Like a sweat bath.

And I go sailing Off Topic again….

Not up to any one of us to decide the death of this or any other thread. However, I join Dwynne in wishing it was dead. Dave, you are allowing yourself being baited by others, which is one method (perhaps the most effective) by which it survives. Those others may be getting some weird satisfaction from it, don’t let them.

To that end, why don’t those of us who wish to do so, leave it to the circular arguments of those who seem to need it?

I will leave now and not return. Anyone wishing to insinuate Brexit into another Thread, should expect a good flaming. Keep this thread for Brexit, leave it be and those who want an argument can argue with each other.

                                        Bugga Brexit, I’m off.

Been down to my daughter’s house for a chat, turned into an all day yakfest! Gdaughter had the cheek to say that mum and granddad can both talk for England, wife had even more cheek to agree. ??

I luvs my daughter, we have the same SOH. I suppose we did laugh a lot, my ribs still hurt a bit.

As a bonus, I convinced her to ditch her krappy John Lewis ADSL and go for full cream proper Plusnet FTTC. Their village now has Fibre, goes past the end of her private road. I warned her that Plusnet will set up and then find she needs a new copper line from the cabinet, new BT socket and replacement for the old GPO connection bloc in the window.

I have to applaud that post Dave. It says everything I would have liked to say to every rabid Brexiteer in my neck of the woods, and there are plenty! 70%+ Leave vote in East Lindsey.

I get your bitterness, that is how I feel. These people are living what they think is the dream: when the nightmare arrives their blame will be reserved for others.
