He likes that and so do I, pmsl!

I put that one on FB Steve, just to annoy my ManU nephew.

I'm out.Apart from dumb, incompetent management and union stupidity, one of the things that killed Rover was the growing success of the 75 and other models. The 75 gearbox was sourced from Germany and I heard on good authority from a Trade source at the time, that BMW were upset about the 75 outselling Beemers in certain markets, so had the gearbox supply choked off. Rover did not have the finance for R&D of a new box, so that killed what could have been a great success for Rover. There is no doubt that Rover was making the right cars at last and the future looked good until the combination I gave above affected the industry. Now thanks to Brexit, it looks bleak again.
That is not meant to start an anti-Brexit debate. It’s the simple truth: our car industry now is owned by foreign companies. If they cannot get the right price for what is produced, thanks to increased tariffs, they will move production. Which is either happening, or being contemplated, as I write this. Vehicle exports represent a massive proportion of UK exports: if we lose them we lose so much more in the way of support industries. These are facts that cannot be wished or argued away.
If there is native UK investment in the R&D of electric vehicle manufacture, I don’t see it happening for quite some time. Although there are several companies including BP, that have plans to build a nationwide infrastructure of stations, that will take time. And where is the power going to come from?

I'm out. Thanks for that furniture link JayCeeDee. SWMBO and I were looking for a two seat sofa, high backed and low seat to allow my tiny (but feisty) Gert to sit with her feet on the floor, plus a swivel chair and footstool. We have already spotted exactly what we want although changed the setup to 2 chairs and a swivel chair. We are donating our big 3 seat recliner settee to our gdaughter, who is waiting to move into a first home with her bf. She is also getting what was her single wardrobe from when she was 4 and lived with us, along with her then 2yo brother. That will allow me to remove all the stuff I have in it and build the bookshelf I bought over a year ago, to keep it!
The family is digging out whatever we can find that will help them set up, although she has been buying stuff for 2 years and storing it at her long-suffering dad’s house, whilst living with her in – laws miles away. I will pass the link you gave to her, it will help her a lot.

I'm out.Promises, pie crusts and political expediency…
Before the ’69 Troubles resurfaced, I served with a Dublin mate who was an Air Tech like myself. He took me for a couple of weeks’ leave in Dublin at his mother’s pub (seemed more like a year!) and then for a tour of the West of Ireland. I found it amusing that the people in the West thought less of Paul as a Dubliner than they did of myself, a Brit: I was welcomed almost everywhere. But I also recall a guy in Cork, when the craic got around to the Six Counties of the North. “Oh dear God in Heaven we don’t want those people in our tidy Republic! Sure they would make a muck of it all! Keep them to yourselves England, we don’t want all the bother!”
Ensuing events proved him correct.

I'm out.wasbit, the last of the Rovers were very good cars. They must have sold a lot of 75’s, 25’s and 45’s in Louth, as there are still a heck of a lot around the area. The Italian motoring press voted the 75 “The most beautiful car in the world” and the Italians are motoring aficionados. There is one 214si, and I remember maintaining one of those in my old job. On road test it went like the clappers and held the road well. Oh, what could have been…
VFM, I understand that and sympathise. Atm, my Gert and I are holding each other together, both have problems but as long as we’re together we are OK.

I'm out.Actually I used to see Elvis in journeys from here in Lincs to my old county of Notts. He* was on Door duties outside The Fox pub/restaurant in Kirton, near Tuxford. https://tinyurl.com/y4zpupuy
*Well, a life-size and very accurate figure of him anyway, all dressed in his ’70’s Vegas concert karate jumpsuit. There is a steep downhill stretch followed by a hairpin turn at the bottom, before seeing the pub. Unfortunately, Elvis left the building after a bad winter. Can’t blame him, it’s a bit warmer in the chip shop.😆😊

I'm out.Fair enough Bob, I had finished venting my spleen (*not that I have one anymore) on this matter in any case
Know I said I was done, but I was a bit OTT and actually: *neither do I. Or a gall bladder, half my bowel piping, part of my pancreas, some of No.4 vertebra and peripheral neuropathy down my left side.
Think that’s it… Ain’t it great getting old and knackered?
VFM that is one of the most sensible and thoughtful posts you have made. But don’t let that compliment go to your head.😆😋

I'm out.I’ve stopped keeping an eye on MPG its far, far too depressing in London. 20 miles to the gallon, 20 minutes to the mile is how it works around here.
Don’t know why you don’t move out to somewhere where you can breathe air without lumps in it, find a cheaper home and more MPG!😝
Isn’t “VFM” meant to mean Value For Money?😉😊

I'm out.I use Macrium Reflect to carry out backups, clone a disk and restore when moving to 10 from 7. This is what Macrium Help says:
” UEFI supports hard disks with either master boot record (MBR) or the newer GUID Partition Table (GPT) system. GPT is a newer standard that supports disks larger than 2TiB and allows for more than four primary partitions per disk.
As UEFI and GPT are increasingly widespread, older images of MBR disks often need restoring to replacement UEFI / GPT systems. ”
Then there is this:
” Rescue media created on Windows 7 and later is dual boot, meaning it boots in both MBR and UEFI mode. Boot your rescue media in UEFI mode. Consult your Motherboard user manual for information on how to do this. ”
I would think that similar programmes such as Easeus, would have the same features. So it isn’t that much of a problem OT: as I said earlier, I moved my son’s PC to 10 from 7 and have been playing with it since he has been too busy to call for it. I have the ISO on a USB stick and I intend to upgrade mine to 10 asap. I also had Office 97 Pro and Publisher, left from my last work as a self-employed Designer and Printer. I had to change when the disc became corrupted and I moved to Open Office, which does everything I need and is free. The fact is that Windows 7 is a dead duck by January and I would rather change now than wait, especially as I can upgrade from 7 with no problems. and no fee. As it gets closer to January 2020, the Scam Vultures will be gathering over the corpse of 7 with fake Win 10 Keys and fake discs.

I'm out.Sometimes older people (like my batty neighbour across the Close) use the laptop on a fabric base. Hers was on a thick, folded tablecloth and the fan was seized, absolutely full of cloth fibres and dust. Heat killed it, she contacted me because it was dead slow. I stripped and rescued it, reinstalled Windows and all Drivers. It was an old Samsung and I advised her to get a new one with a good make. She bought a desktop, which was a relief.

I'm out.Whilst I am currently waiting for my son to come and collect the new Win10 box I built for him, I have been playing with it. I am going to upgrade my 7 system asap now: don’t know what has been holding me back, I really like it.

I'm out.The ER group are a bunch of nut jobs. They have an idea in their heads that can’t be shifted with facts because it didn’t get there that way. One of them was on the radio this morning complaining that he now had a criminal record for obstructing the public highway. Asked if he realised it was against the law he replied no but yes but no but. Ask them to move nicely once then lock up the lot of them. Who the hell do they think they are.
Most of them are not ‘nut jobs’, but young people afraid of the future that previous generations have created for them. That’s who they think they are Graham. Do you have grandchildren? I do and I fear for what might be in store for them. Ever stood up for your beliefs, your principles, despite what you know the consequences might be? That’s what they are doing. If was able to do so, I would join them, good luck to them.
Sometimes you talk garbage.

I'm out.My little Hyundai iX20 1.6 auto gets between 40 to 45 depending upon the journey. Considering how I drive around our country lanes here, that’s probably pretty good. Apparently my gdaughter’s mates who get lifts with me* call me “Racer Granddad”. There are very few cameras per 20 miles, even less police vehicles and I keep my eyes open.
*Even though gdtr has moved, first to Stamford and now with BF to new house near Spalding, her mates still ask for lifts. I am regarded as an honorary, unofficial granddad to about half a dozen young lasses. It is very pleasantly fragrant in my motor sometimes. But noisy!

I'm out.Angela Merkel does not bluff, I could have told the Blonde Buffoon that myself. I would have hated to play poker with the haüsfrau.
As an aside, the real crusties in Parliament, starting with Barking Boris, simply do not understand the XR protests.
– Tory peer: ‘Sinister undertones’ to Extinction Rebellion protests. – They do not understand this is people fighting for the planet’s future. As so many of them are closer to the Grim Reaper than most of the protesters, some cannot bring themselves to care enough by giving it some thought. I am ashamed that Baroness Williams has to be reminded of this by Baroness Jones. Battling Welsh Baronesses, indeed.

I'm out.The security services of this country, backed by the Establishment and US security services, have always tried to undermine any Socialist representative bodies. It is the great fear of the real rulers of the UK, that the people will one day rise and throw out the less than 1% who own everything.
The problem for the people is that their heroes usually turn out to have feet of clay. Look at certifiable people like Scargill, union reps like Red Robbo. Figures such as those, inciting others to violent protest, have done the real damage to Socialism, not Maggie or any other Tory PM. Harold Wilson was a far different leader to Tony Blair, with far better principles that he retained all his life. Blair took us into wars that were unwinnable, cost us lives, billions of pounds and left us hated by much of the planet. Harold kept us out of Vietnam, despite American pressure. That would have cost many thousands of British lives and mine might have been one of them. For that alone, Wilson should have been given a statue bigger and more prominent than others less deserving. The way he met his end, through Alzheimers, was totally undeserved.

I'm out.Oh how I love it when that happens!
After my 6 points several years ago, which almost left me without Motability transport*, I take more care about speeds. Two years ago I was approaching the local spot where non-locals and boy racers decide they are Lewis Hamilton. Behind me is – yes – a BMW 1 series and behind that, a black Insignia. Now this spot is a double hill, the A16 Louth bypass, which has two bends. There is an overtaking lane to pass slow traffic and the National Limit of 60 mph applies. I am doing about 50 going up this hill: over the top is a descent, followed by another lesser gradient and a bend, with staggered junctions either side. After the bend is a speed camera. The BMW has been tailgating me impatiently and I have been slowing down to annoy him. At the crawler lane, he shoots past me, waves a middle finger, and accelerates, the black Insignia follows and both cars vanish from my view until I pass the bend to see the Insignia with bells and lights pulling over the BMW. YES! Probably also taken by the camera.
Why do drivers of the less powerful Beemers think they have to overtake everything in sight, simply to show that they have a BMW? I know a local businessman who has a big old 635 CSi and he drives quite sedately. Tells me that he has had Jags and Mercs, but the old 635 is still the most comfortable car he has ever had, Having been a passenger in it, I have to say he may be right.
*A humbly composed, begging letter to the authorities saved my wheels.😚😇
