      Thanks guys.

I now have another cannula in my arm, to match the 3-line one in my neck. I only need fairy lights! Promised a PET scan this morning at 0830, still waiting at 2031. Par for this place.

Best bit of the day, missus and son came to bring stuff I needed. I had told them to look for my window because they cannot visit the ward ( cancer ward, low immunity) but after they left we had a loud convo from my first floor window. It was so good to see them.

Off toned now, night- night!Well guys it’s been such an exciting day that I am exhausted 😊

Thanks JCD, I have just learned from yesterday’s unread email from my GP’s, that porridge is not suitable for me now. Apparently the small size of some grain messes with the enzymes that have to be allowed to leave ASAP. That was sent yesterday: they are taking turns to ask me to post what I eat each day, then tell them any reaction. Well, last night I was sick again, finally got to sleep around 3am. Posted that, will have a response tomorrow. Hey, do I have a great surgery or what? They are determined to keep me breathing! Tonight, small Salmon fillet, Farfalla pasta and broccoli. Small snacks throughout the day is advised, instead of 3 larger meals. Earlier, thick, proper Tomato soup, which I love. Cornflakes for brekkers. I feel OK atm, things appear to be moving in the correct direction, if you get me. Going to beat this.

Ed I will borrow some of gson’s Soy for the pasta I think. Pasta sauces are not recommended, got to keep out any oily stuff.  Do not fancy fermented veg though! Any advice regarding a non-oily sauce for pasta? A bit monotonous without. And I think I am giving myself overlarge helpings of pasta. Weight still falling: 68 Kilos now.

          Thanks Nolan & Ed.

As I have a Parastomal hernia, I carry my bog around with me!

Today we took in a delivery for our senior grandson, to collect on his way up to his flat above ours, when he finished work. It was all Japanese foods and sauces, direct from Japan. Some had to be removed from the boxes and chilled in the fridge: that was in an insulated jacket that had remained chilled, all the way from Japan in less than a day. Big bottle of Sake, all kinds of sauces, many different noodles.

He has been working his way through Japanese and Korean foods and recipes for a while, has even received recipes for Japanese burgers. Twice a week he has resumed inviting mum and sister for meals, but not for Asian food. He experiments with making his own burgers and other dishes, then serves them up to mum and kid sister.

Nolan, I see the Autistic reference: gson has Aspergers but obviously no digestive problems, quite the opposite. He does have social interaction issues and is only OK with work people and family, others he knows very well for a long time. In view of his Asian food kick and IT expertise, I jokingly suggested that he learns Japanese and moves to a Tokyo workplace. He gave a thoughtful look…

What have I done? But his severely dyslexic cousin has digestive trouble. Can’t eat veg, makes him ill. He’s a carnivore.

Thanks Dave and Steve, can’t use oil or any kind of grease, but can use the spray oil, just a tiny squirt. This morning I was back on the porridge, one egg for lunch, crusts off the soldiers. No biccies now, just a Natural yoghurt. Thought I would hate that, but took it slowly and liked it by the time I finished. Can’t eat fruit pulp, so I am juicing lots of oranges. Lots of stuff I can’t list it all, cannot eat any more. Never did eat lots of chips, but loved cod in batter, that’s out. Tonight, thick Tomato and Basil soup, a fresh Salmon fillet. Going to our fresh fish seller tomorrow, looking for Sea Bream.

After speaking to my GP, he explained what happens: Pancreas is damaged, slowly recovering some function, but the damage is causing it to produce the wrong sort of enzymes and they are causing pain and other problems. Hey ho, on I go, down another dark path.

Her dad has been ejected by her mum and also by their daughter, for spendthrift and lying about the fact that he had lost his job, but still continued to spend money as if he was working. Guy has 2 other (male adult) kids by 2 different mothers.

Strangely, he bought a huge Winnebago and has moved about 50 yards up the road to a large pub car park. He took out a loan for this and also has a 750 cc Yamaha and a Mondeo. He pays rent to the pub landlord and lives actually atm directly opposite our son, works shifts in a dead end job. His debts must be enormous, but the house is daughter’s and she wanted him gone. What a weird situation.

Gd is not at all interested in ACF, even though grandad insists that the AAC is in many ways an improvement upon the RAF! Dad is far more interested in the sons than in his daughter. I would not trade her for the world, but my daughter has always had terrible taste in men. Gd’s words when mum said she was ejecting him, “When does he leave?”

She asked us for astronomical charts and a wall display for the bedroom. Maybe considering an astronaut as a career. Whatever she decides upon, she will take an A* education and will have the backing of us all.

You misunderstand me Ed. I would have loved junior gd from the moment of birth, whether she was tomboy or princess. Just as I love her 22 yo cousin, who is most definitely princess material, although a bank worker. All my 4 grandbrats are different, which makes them individuals. which in turn is what life is all about. My philosophy with children has never changed: allow them to develop in their own way, but provide checks, balances and borders from the day they can understand them.

I suspect that any daughter of yours will not be allowed to grow up in ‘Princess mode’. Equal opportunity is usually the norm today. However she develops, is of course the business of you and your lady, but of all my grandchildren, I have had to try hard to repress  favouritism of youngest gdaughter. Always a tomboy, hated dolls, hates pink, loves jeans and is in RAF cadets. At 15 now, latest (jokey) ambition is to be a burglar! Takes after her mum, who I taught car maintenance and tells mechanics exactly what is wrong with her motors.

Our other gd is 22 and totally different, which is how it should be: all humans are individuals and it shows as they grow.

Three Motability leases ago, I returned to Ford and took a Focus. Might as well have top of the range, I thought, so had a Titanium 1.6. That’s as far as I could get on Motability with an Auto. It was quick (when it worked) but the trim was much worse than the basic 1.6 I had in 2001, which is still driving around the Mablethorpe area today. Everything that could go wrong with the ‘Tit’ Focus, did: electric windows, doors, front and rear windscreen wash/wipe. ECU packed up. In fact, the only other Motability car I leased that was worse, was the second: a Vauxhall Astra, which developed too many faults to list. That was preceded by a smashing little Corsa 1.6 auto, which went like the proverbial greasy faeces but had a very hard ride.

The last fault on the Focus was a rear windscreen wash/wipe, which kept blowing fuses. I checked it out myself and advised the workshop foreman to get in an Auto Electrician and check out the rear wiring. Ignoring the Oldphart, he had the car 3 days: dash out, carpets up. Around 11 am I walked in and they were still at it. The manager heard me asking them to take out the rear trim and parcel shelf, made them do it. 15 minutes later, they exposed wiring over a weld, chafing and shorting out. Laid incorrectly in manufacture, of course.

Oldphart 1 – modern ‘technicians’ 0. I had a conversation with the young foreman, to the effect that I am a Motor Engineer for a reason: when I was stumped, I found the knowledge I needed, or called in someone who had the relevant expertise.

What with expecting our first child in September, I’m not sure I’ll get the chance for much gaming going forwards!

Congratulations, hope the pregnancy is not as tiring on you as the missus! Another tip: the Expectant One is usually fine until around 6 or 7 months in. Then Ratty Mode can emerge. Expect missiles launched at you if you make the slightest error in speech. But babies are a great gift and the birth of your own is just unbelievable. Picking up your new sprog is a feeling like no other.

                        Hope it all goes well.

Oh boy, do I relate to that!

Working on a Datsun Laurel, don’t now if you knew them: the unburstable Datsun 6 – cylinder inline engine, 2.4 Litre. Same engine in the first 240Z sports cars. A somewhat floaty ride, but that suited a long-time customer at our garage. Big George was a trucky, then in his early fifties and doing it since Pontius was a pilot, so he loved that ride because it helped with his ‘Trucky’s Back’.

He came into us with such a rattle, (on the car) said it wasn’t loud but he was used to a peaceful ride after his noisy old Foden. So I did the usual: shoved an unwilling apprentice into the boot, motored off. Apprentice climbed out a little shaken, heard nothing. Next I had him lying across the rear floor, then the front, a bit folded up. (It’s a good job we taught and paid them well!) Put on the ramp, had someone inside, rocked it. Stripped out seats and trim, checked every square inch, nothing, replaced them. Even did a Water test with the pressure jet, no leaks. Drove at all speeds, still rattling, worse at below 40 mph. Then I had one of those brainwaves that should not happen: leaned below the car with engine running, heard something from an engine mounting. Supported engine, loosened mountings – out fell a pebble! Connected it back up, drove out: no rattle. Phoned George: “Oh well it’s due a service next month, do a full service now if you can.”

Bonus! I don’t know how we could have honestly charged all that labour, for a rattle.

Had a few like that, but most were found and solved quickly. Mechanics hate rattles!

The business of America, is American business and American profit. Everyone and everything else comes second, including any “Special Relationships.”

As rural dwellers until we moved into Louth, our village had several buses a day, from Louth Bus Station, connecting Lincoln to Grimsby, Mablethorpe and until last year, Skegness. The Grimsby bus is supposed to wait for the Lincoln bus and the Mablethorpe bus, for both. With the large distances between villages and towns, skewed timetables are a fact of life. The patient long-suffering expressions of locals at bus stops, is a fact of life here. Very occasionally, a driver loses it and drives out without waiting. The result is chaos: travellers alighting one bus, see theirs has departed, leaving them stranded. Out come the mobiles (Stagecoach on Speed Dial!) and heated conversations ensue. In the fullness of time, another bus may appear. Or not.

Catching the 51 Louth to Grimsby bus is an experience I dread: another reason to thank Motability for. By car, a shade over 20 miles, 20 minutes usually. By bus, any guess will do. It goes around every village, off and back on to the A16. We live about ¼ mile outside town centre, along convoluted Georgian streets, some below sea level. Walking to shops is not possible for me atm, so I drive.

Ed I remember Dorset well from my time at Blandford Forum APTC in the ’60’s. BF was then a very small place and I loved running the Downs and walking them later, all the small hamlets with perhaps one old fashioned pub, or none, in which case a friendly soul would direct me to the next. That is where my Army running really took off, up and down those hills and valleys. Beautiful. IIRC Hants, Wilts and Dorset was a very good bus company in those days.

Trouble with some younger (and not so young) people in Britain, is that they have been denied their packed boozers and heavy drinking, their Raves and Festivals. Being young, they head straight into major denial about any risks to themselves and others.

Problem I have with that is that I remember my own youth and wonder if I would have been so different under the same circumstances. I would like to think I would have acted responsibly, but I was a wild and headstrong lad when young.

I am tired of reading comments by certain people, quoting nonsense such as the experience of countries like New Zealand, that a similar immediate lockdown here would have stopped Covid in its tracks. That is true for an island nation with low density population, with no near densely populated neighbour, and very nearly self-supporting. Statements like that use 20/20 Hindsight when formulating their comments.

One thing is certain: the continuing mass idiocy and selfish behaviour of nations such as the USA, Brazil, India etc., will ensure that this disease will plague the world for some time to come. Then there is THIS: –

As you see, there is now a silver chin beard attached to the ‘tache. This was 2019 on a Riviera Danube cruise, Anniversary night. Missus looks happy enough there, also hates photos but I think the wine helped somewhat! You will gather that I don’t do Dress Up…

This me holding my sadly deceased nephew Pete, later my companion at Forest games, all over the country and Europe. I was 18 then, obviously before I joined the Army (the hair!) I had dark brown hair, with a crazy dark red streak through the centre: legacy of my red haired mam and black haired dad. Had 5 nephews, lost 3 to cancers and heart attacks. Have 5 nieces.

All photos of my previous family, plus many more family photos, were burned by my ex in ’75, before having me ejected.

Reviving this because they actually delivered a replacement this am, just 5+ weeks after the original order was made: this package is also damaged. TNT Driver refused to take it back and refused to take first one back

I emailed them yet another complaint, with photos of package damage. Since they already have my solicitor’s letter (from a free consultation, done business with them for years) they came back with choices:

                                      *Take another replacement

                                      Accept a discount to –

*Open second package, check damage, if contents damaged, use both package contents to make a table that is fit for purpose.

Opted for the second choice, IF a significant discount is offered and IF a table fit for purpose, can be built, after examining both package contents. If not, I will have my pet shyster send them another letter, with a demand for a full refund and his fee. I await their reaction, firmly gripping their Corporate Scrotum. I could even use the first table contents, to add another shelf, they don’t want to collect it.

But I am still bloody angry about the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Being ill does not help.

This place is weird: sensors in every room, apart from the CO2 and other detectors, there is a movement sensor in the upper corner of every room. The Gas meters are all in 3 banks of meters, under a box on the floor. The Electric meters are in banks behind a door, set into the outside wall. When I moved in, couldn’t find the leccy ones. Told they were behind a door, it was locked and they had to send a minion to unlock it. “That is not supposed to be locked!” – as if I locked it.

Gson has a solution: well yes he does but the landlord will not let us do anything with the sockets. So he is in the same boat, but has Plusnet Business via work and some really high speeds. He has servers in the spare room and is connected to work, has a massive desktop. Work is his life really, that and gaming.

Never suspected you were ginger JayCeeDee!

Had a mate from boyhood (sadly passed a few years ago) who was 6’2″ and bright ginger hair. We mates in our gang of 9, used to call him ‘Belisha’, after the Zebra crossing lamp.

Still, GLM – Ginger Lives Matter? :-)

With SWMBO’s help, I shaved my bonce some weeks ago. Now it has mostly grown back, apart from the Solar Panel in the middle, which refuses to produce more than a few strands. In the hot days over lockdown exercise, I had to wear a hat to avoid having a luminous head, but I have a collection of hats from all over the place, including two baseball caps. The beard, I began growing during chemo after chin cuts and a staff nurse advising me to do it and to dry shave. Now it’s a permanent silver fixture and I like it!
