A4 page at (21 x 29.7) cm is 623.7 square cm in area.

A3 page is (29.7 x 42) cm is 1247.4 sq. cm in area. That is exactly twice the area of an A3 page, but remember Les that is with both A4 and A3 in Portrait mode. I cannot see a reason why a ratio of 1:50 would not work, or rather a ratio of 1:2 (A3:A4) as long as both pages were worked and printed in either Landscape or Portrait, together.

Could anyone else point to an error in that concept?

I use Collect Plus occasionally John:

          https://tinyurl.com/y6pumqdb

Go to “SEND”, Click “GO” without inputting a postcode, which will give you an idea of prices and weights. They will even print off a label for you in the collection store you choose. I use a local Argos, but you can choose a store local to you.

Interesting article Ed. I will definitely not stop taking Pravastatin. I was originally prescribed Atorvastatin but that did have side effects of making me dizzy and short of breath. My very good West African GP was quick to prescribe Pravastatin, telling me to report back if the dizzy spells continued after two weeks. In fact they stopped within days and I am now even more aware that the benefits of Statins outweigh any disadvantages I had. As I was not aware of the skin effluent until now, if that is all the problems caused, I shall continue with it.

I do take a cocktail of other tablets, although the same efficient GP spoke to my two consultants and had 3 medicines removed as either unnecessary or actually conflicting with others. Having reflux, Barretts Oesophagus, a hiatus hernia, parastomal hernia, no gall bladder, no spleen and a partial pancreotomy after the cancer, requires a medicinal balancing act to restore at least partial function to my battered old internals. The medicines chart on our kitchen cupboard is interesting, let’s say…

The one thing I do appreciate is that I have never needed medical assistance to sleep. My mother took sleeping tablets for many years and would snore heavily, then wake after 4 hours. I would pity my dad if he did not have the same heavy natural sleep that I share, albeit broken twice nightly by the effects of an enlarged prostate. My missus will say that I can sleep for England, but it is a good thing that the prostate usually wakes me in time!

No way am I going to inflict our hard water on my precious vinyl Graham! Finger grease is avoided if you don’t handle the surfaces without a cloth.

I have no direct evidence that Statins are to blame for the chair damage, but I do know that ever since I have taken them, my coat and shirt collars have become marked with a greasy streak. I researched myself and read that older males produce fatty acid, as Ed has found. I eventually concluded that I am indeed an older male, despite my brain still refusing to believe I have not been 18 for quite a long time. So I did more research and found so many conflicting reports among supposedly professional bodies. More confused than ever, I eventually found The Lancet:

                https://tinyurl.com/y6qhjlrd

This proves that Dave is right to believe that the side effects are worth the act of taking Statins. Quoting from the Lancet’s long and worthy but verbose report: –

We found significant reductions in major coronary events in all age groups (including those older than 75 years at randomisation), but the trend towards smaller relative reductions with increasing age persisted, even after excluding heart failure and dialysis trials. ” ….   “However, as the absolute risk of these events was higher in older people, the absolute benefits were similar to, if not greater than, those at younger ages.

Reading so many other sources has also convinced me that too many medical and health “experts” can never agree on any one subject to save either their own lives or anyone else’s. Many of the American publications gave screeds of apparently authentic information, followed by an “offer” to purchase something. I then recalled an appointment with a former GP, the late Dr. Terry Butler. in my previous home village. This was at a time when the Cholesterol was the latest medical buzz word and the surgery had recently taken on an enthusiastic Practice Nurse, who organised “Well Man” clinics. (for both genders: pre-feminist) This young lady tested me, asked my diet and told me to stop eating eggs, which I love in all their cooked forms. Weeks later I had a work injury, saw Dr. Tel and told him. He looked at my Cholesterol reading and laughed, checked it again and laughed a bit more. “It was within limits, just slightly higher. Are you eating eggs?”   “No Doc, I took her advice.”   “Well ignore it. She’s new, but eggs are not. In moderation, properly cooked, they are a good source of protein. Your work is demanding and physical, you need protein. Eat them.”

More fake news, more half-trained experts.

Chris – this is the later version of my tiny USB 3 – to – Android device flash drive. Amazing that they can get up to 256 GB in those little things now. Really chuffed that I rediscovered it: I can either use it in the car’s Media audio port or in the tablet. Can’t use it in the Sony Xperia, as it has a USB C port. Better watch out for that if you decide to get one. I don’t know why you wouldn’t be able to play music directly off it though.

Do not use Windowlene 😁 do use mild soapy water with a soft cloth and rinse under the tap, don’t get the label wet. Remember records are made of plastic and do not dissolve😀 If you are worried about tap water residue then you can wipe them with a micro fiber cloth when they are dry.

Graham, even the softest tap water has impurities in it, like lime. Ours is particularly hard. It would leave microscopic bits of Calcium Carbonate, chalk and other impurities between the grooves and some of that stuff is hard, thus reducing the life of the vinyl. I use “Pure” record cleaner, comes with a microfibre cloth and makes a great job of it. I didn’t really believe until I used it on records that had been played just a few times, some only once. I had always used an antistatic cloth, but the muck that came off shocked me. Only needs a slight spray, but makes a difference to the sound, even to my knackered ears.

Update – Mozilla has hurriedly fixed the bug and tells users to update asap to 39.0.3 or in Linux to ESR 38.1.1 (tough if you have to wait for Mint’s normally slow response). In the unlikely event you get attacked by visiting Russian/Ukrainian sites then just do the usual shutdown/restart of your system. Pi has its own problems too as the Android port has to be done first.

Ed, my FF is 64 bit and last updated yesterday to 70.0.1. I don’t know where 39.0.3 comes from.

That’s the problem, right there: the staff working at the DWP benefits have always been under pressure to keep down the number of successful claims. They wriggle and twist, massage numbers and try their best to deny people their just rights.

It should be backdated to your first claim Nolan. Keep all paperwork, from DWP and all the papers you signed. I photocopied everything after a tip from Welfare Services. Eventually I scanned everything and saved to computer. I still have the details of my first claim in 1995 and was able to correct things said at Tribunal 13 months later, from their own documentation. They hate that: “This is what we said.” – “No, this is what you said, look.”  “This is what you said.” – “No, this is what I said, and this was the date I wrote/said it, read please!”

Took me 13 months to get Incapacity and Higher Rate Mobility. It cost us a house, because Dianne was also having problems after a failed operation cost her the use of her hand and arm and her job as a PA to 3 directors. In the space of just over 15 months, we went from home owners with a very good combined income from very good jobs, to broke. It almost broke us physically too, but it’s true what they say: what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. To say I heartily dislike the DWP and their so-called Medical experts, is the biggest of understatements. “Put down your crutch and stand on one leg please.”  –  “I will fall over.”  –  “Of course you won’t: do it!” BANG! “And now you can help me up. If you are a doctor, you had better have a look at me, because I now have paralysis to my left side limbs. If you are not a doctor, I will lie here until you fetch one. I may sue. What is your full name please?”

That was my last Tribunal, I won a hollow victory and they had to back pay me, because I had all the first claim paperwork. Two years later I was living here in Lincolnshire, receiving my DLA as a car and my Personal Care DLA paid into the bank. The Personal Care payments stopped. It took 3 months and the intervention of the Minister for DWP to discover that Blackpool had sent my payments as a payments book to the PO in my old village, where I had not lived for two years. A year or so later, they paid my PC DLA to another Williams in another town. It only took 5 weeks to get that back.

The DWP is a creaking, incompetent, inefficient, uncaring system run by bureaucratic morons. Those are my kindest words for it. When you consider that it is a system created to help the most vulnerable, it really makes you want to punch something.

Sorry, didn’t mean this to turn into a rant.

@Bob – SD card is present, but just can’t be encrypted, or used as internal storage. It can function as a storage medium fine though. Beats the Oneplus, which doesn’t even have an SD slot. ”

Ah – I understand that Chris. But if I find my next prospective Tab won’t allow Internal storage for an SD, it will affect my choice. Although I have just recently rediscovered a tricky little 60 GB USB Slider gadget which has one USB 3 connector and the other end will connect to the tablet. I was going to use that to install music tracks to the tablet and phone, then forgot about it. That will be good for overspill tablet storage in the desktop.

Thanks, made me think of an alternative. Brain kick started once again!

I had thought you were with Motability Nolan, obviously wrong. Are you able to claim for PIP (DLA as was) with any disabilities/conditions you have? It is listed as “for help with getting around” but the definitions for that have just got wider under new reg’s. Excuse me if I am incorrect here, just a thought. Maybe speak to your consultant/GP?

I forgot to mention that I need new front tyres as well: a few months ago I noticed tread wear on the inner edges of both fronts, which to me means “Toeing-in” in old Sweaty-Mech talk. Took it up to Grimsby Kwikfit and they checked, not enough tread gone. They carried out steering alignment, asked me to call again in a few months. So a Grimsby trip sometime this week, as soon as the screen is fixed. I hear all the Kwikfit bad reviews, but tbh I have never had anything but good treatment from them since they took over tyres and steering issues from dealers. When I had the C-Max I had a Kwikfit fitter come to my house, fit new tyres and tracking, all in the dark and with snow on the ground. Big arc lights outside my front window, what a hero! We fed him hot Oxo, home made cheese scones and coffee, gave him a warm inside after he finished and wanted to go. During a trip to Dulwich relatives, road works overnight threw me off my way to the M25 and I got lost became detached from my route. Called in to a Kwikfit place, manager gave me the best route back.

Might come as a surprise Ed, but I was almost born a Kiwi. In the late 1920’s my mother’s paternal cousin Lizzie married and the couple left for a farm in NZ. They had a very large acreage, drained, developed and worked around half of it until early 1939, when they wrote to my parents to ask if they wanted to come over and take the other half, with a house included. Dad was all for it, so too my then schoolboy brothers. The maternal grandmother I never knew, was very ill and mam would not leave the UK. Dad had always wanted to be a farmer instead of a miner all his working life. He never appeared to be bitter after War broke out, grandma passed away on the evening of September 3rd 1939 and put paid to that dream, but now and then over the years he would say to me “You should have been born a Kiwi.” in mam’s hearing. I loved my life growing up in a Nottinghamshire village, but the area of the North Island where the farm was then, would have been open and relatively empty: what a glorious place to live! Then in the Army I met a lad from the area who told me more about it; how he used to ride to school on an old mare, picking up two more kids at other farms on the way.

We never know where life will take us I guess.

How long does your PC take to boot just Windows Les ? I just upgraded a 2006 laptop with an SSD and it boots to a fully responsive W7 desktop in less than 1 min.

Recently did the same, Graham. 480 GB Sandisk SSD now boots in about the same minute. 1 TB spinner now wiped, formatted and relegated to overspill storage. I used to have time to put the kettle on, now I have to employ SWMBO for that. Doesn’t always work…

That’s a divorce for Lenovo and myself, if they do that for my next Tablet purchase. The Tab3-8 is beginning to show its age somewhat: slowing up, SD storage reaching the point at which I would be looking at a 64Gb card soon. I will revert to the Hudl I think as main tablet, only using it as long term storage atm. It takes a 64 GB card and is really quite as good as the Lenovo in many ways. I can appreciate the reasons regarding security and encryption for business and military uses, but not for most of ordinary users. I’m already p****d off with SWMBO’s Lenovo laptop for several reasons: can’t see me ever buying one for myself.

I do clear caches and data regularly, but I have loaded the Tab with all kinds of goodies. Next one will be a more expensive item with more internal and external storage. Unless some bright spark finds a way to stuff it all directly into my brain. Not helpful though, considering the parlous state of my memory!

Some of my vinyl is worth a few quid I believe. When I was first buying at the end of the 50’s, I never gave that a thought. I just considered the state of records owned by mates and gf’s, then decided to buy a cheap Grundig tape deck. That served me well, I recorded vinyl and put it away. Same happened when cassettes came out, then the Akai tape deck. Most of my vinyl has only been played a few times, some just twice, it’s all mint and there are hundreds of LP’s, dozens of ’45’s. I bought a lot of US imports in Germany, having made a few American buddies who got me into the PX. Best mate there was Popeye, a hulking great black lad with a lovely family and an air tech same as myself. That’s why I have some Sam Cooke, Otis and old blues stuff that never made it here. I just cannot believe the prices advertised for some Beatles stuff that I have, for example. That is going to either be sold or left to my son and daughter. Sil is a Dylan fan, daughter loves Motown. Son likes certain 80’s krap, but also Elvis and Stones, so he probably won’t go to Hell. 😆

I have a Woody Guthrie LP that I bought for 5bob, because I read that Bob Dylan based himself upon Guthrie. It’s mint because I hated it, but it got put away after one play. It’s now worth a lot of money. Might take us to Bavaria next year, if I get the right buyer. I always say, buy it for the right money or it’s either a plant pot or a vase!

Perhaps, Dan, domestic peace is best served by Wales and England not meeting in the final! 😋😚My Welsh ancestry, was always reinforced as a child by my granddad: he was 2 generations away, but remained a fierce champion of Wales. My missus also has Welsh ancestry, her mum being a Griffiths. We both feel torn whenever any sports match between the two nations takes place, but at least torn in the same way.

Wife’s (very Welsh) aunt Gwenn was a little put out when we first met her together: “A Williams and a Griffiths? Oh damn, can that work?” Eventually she was convinced and we got along famously, until she passed away at 95. Lovely lady, family sang “Cwm Rhondda” at her passing – written by a 17th century William Williams, naturally. I managed some of it, harking back to granddad’s teaching. The effect of some singing the English and some the Welsh, had to be heard to be believed… Fortunately it ended peacefully!
