Malton is nice Lee. The East Yorks coast is good if you go a bit further. Hornsea is a great little town. Beverley is really good, but property looks expensive. The surrounding villages are all nice, but it depends on broadband and WiFi speeds, which I guess would be crucial for you.

As for Bradford, it’s listed as one of England’s worst towns, along with Hull, Halifax, Wakefield, Keighley, Doncaster and Huddersfield. Good luck on your move, wherever you choose.

A wise man once told me “Wherever you go, you take yourself with you.”

That one hasn’t made it onto my telly yet Lee, but it certainly took some creativity to make. Ran it back again in Full screen and HD, the ad must have taken some complex CGI and there are aliens everywhere!

A good take on the 1966 SF movie “Fantastic Voyage”, which probably cost a lot less than the Ad.

Very wrong that they are forcing you out after all those years Lee. Anyone who thinks an Englishman’s home is his castle, should take a look at all the cases like yours. Hope you find somewhere to stay.

Both of us had the Covid jab last week. The only side effect we have noticed is itchiness in a few small raised skin areas.

Snow is bad here, we are directly in the path of The Beast From The East.

I have nurses calling twice daily. In the evenings they fit a new intravenous feedpack and in the morning they remove it. This morning we received several texts from the nurse, who was trying to get over the Wolds in the teeth of a blizzard and had to change her route twice to get here. Eventually she got through and asked if I could let her connect another pack immediately, setting it to start at the usual time and finish in the morning. She was worried about repeating the journey, with more to come, in the dark.

Of course I agreed. These nurses are the real heroes, thy all go the extra mile and I would be very upset to learn that she would have an accident or become stranded, trying to get here. From BBC Lincolnshire:

Lincolnshire County Council’s network resilience manager Darrell Redford said gritting teams had been out several times.
He said it was also likely the county’s farmers would be asked to help pull stranded vehicles off blocked roads.
“We might have to get some tractors out to give them a pull and get them moving. Once they get stopped and stuck it’s difficult to get them moving again.”
Roads closed include the A158 (Horncastle to Partney) and the A153 (Louth to Horncastle).
As well as the 30 collisions, Lincolnshire Police’s force control room tweeted reports of 18 hazards on the county’s roads since 07:00 GMT.
It urged drivers to take care and allow extra time for essential journeys.
The force has also asked drivers not to remove road closed signs as it had received reports of them being moved on the A153.

That last points out the stupidity of some road users. Some years ago came to a similar blocked highway and turned around to find another route. Then I watched as a Granada driver removed the barriers and drove through, to come to a halt. He had to wad back through water up to his chest. And no, I didn’t wait for him.

                        I bought this Lee:   https://tinyurl.com/y5mrspaf

It was about £2 cheaper then and I use it as a NAS, it works well and takes all my backups with a Seagate 2 TB installed.

I also have an SSD enclosure, mine was an “Eaxer” brand but this is equivalent: https://tinyurl.com/y43xhhed

That was cheaper as an Eaxer, but I can’t find it on Amazon, probably taken over by another company.

In East Lindsey we are surrounded by the stuff in other areas and counties, but not one flake here. Very wet though. My carers all come from different areas and they tell me it is bad there. E.L. is usually like that, has the lowest precipitation in the UK, over 12 months. The sea is close, and the sea retains warmth longer than the land. However, we have not forgotten 2009/10, when my old village was snowed in: it came straight down the Lincolnshire coast in November and didn’t stop until March.

That was just after a month: it almost thawed, we thought we had survived the worst. It kept part thawing, then freezing and snowing again. The freeze was the worst part, it was almost impossible to get the car out. It went on like that until my birthday, when it thawed and didn’t come again. After March we had a very warm April, we were on the beach.

What a daft climate we live in. Only us Brits can stand it.

The red car in the first pic is my old Motability C-Max. 2.0 litre turbo petrol, fast, comfortable and the first of the C-Max models.

Thanks Ed, a reasoned summation. No I would not like to revisit my former German relationship thank you! If it were at all possible, I would like to have met and married the current Mrs Williams a lot sooner, before she met her first. That would have saved us both a lot of pain. However, our kids would not be the wonderful people we have now. Swings and roundabouts ….

Les I hope to see that video. I was not actually expecting a Next Life, just musing on the one question everyone must think about towards The End: where does Mind go?

Thank you all guys, I found a lot of comfort in your words.

As the Poet advised, I will not “Rage, rage against the dying of the light”. Well, I’ll be somewhat annoyed, put it that way.

I will definitely give my gson Forumite and ask him to tell you when grandad’s perch is finally vacant. Bearing in mind my Humanism and atheism, I still have the question: what happens to Mind? Afraid I will not be able to report back on that one! Btw my 90 yo brother who was a long-term Dementia sufferer, passed away in his sleep two days ago. That was a mercy.

Lee, you didn’t think I was going to stop contributing did you? Thanks for the thought, but the site and this circle is worth a lot more.

I gave my No.2 gson my old TP-Link router to connect from the house router downstairs. (It’s an old building with thick walls)

I have sent him the details you give here, with suitable changes for a different router to the Virgin Hub. He will probably say he knew that, but don’t they all?

                                      Thanks Les.

I haven’t been here much because I am in a lot of stomach pain and reflux atm. My intubation stopped drawing up bile for 2 days caused that. Then last night it started working again and today it filled to bursting twice, just been emptied and began filling up again immediately. I may get some sleep tonight, ready for the op tomorrow. That may take away the worst of the pain. My missus is getting some good support, because I contacted my oldest friend Mary (grew up together from babies, lived next door) Mary has organised a bunch of other friends to call my Dianne and chat. All the same age, some have had cancers. Two of my niece’s also call her and cousins from Stoke.

Guys as I say, tomorrow is the big day. I know it’s wrong, but I can’t shake a bad feeling about this op. Oh I’ll fight, but I never had this feeling before. Hopefully I will be here in a couple of weeks to say how wrong I was.

If I’m right, then let me say that I have enjoyed your company and appreciated your help when I requested it. This forum has been something else, but a forum is only as good as its membership. And that makes it something else!

Thanks guys. Feel a bit brighter after some sleep, I find that if I go to sleep thinking about a problem, my attitude towards it has changed. My subconscious is smart!

JCD, thanks for that. Time is basically what I am hoping for. I want to sit with my missus and teach her stuff that she has always resisted. I know I should have been more forceful before, but my tiny SWMBO is an immovable object at times.

It’s better in here now that there are 2 more blokes: I was alone in a 4 man cubicle for a week. Anyone who has been in a cancer ward will know how busy the staff are, due to the nature and demands of cancers. I am now convinced that there may be a case for some treatment and ops being –  ? – delayed. In 2018, this very same ward was full and patients were shuttled in and out asap, to be replaced immediately.

Just been weighed. I am 10 stone 8 pounds. Never been that weight since I was first an adult. Now trying to be released from “K9” the appendage connected to my piping and bags of various liquids/ substances.

Consultant brought bad news and worse news earlier. Bad: after the PET scan, now Monday, because I still have the bowel blockage, he goes in to take some bowel and the cancer, once the PET shows exactly where it I.

Worst news, he finds it has spread. In which case he takes the bowel to give me time.

First option: if successful I am a diabetic. Second: a matter of time. Guys,if you don’t hear from me for a month after Tuesday week, draw your own conclusions. The only part of all this that upsets me, is the effects upon my wife and family. For myself, I had a good life, a blast in many ways. But it breaks my heart to leave them or to be a burden on them.

But I am still here, still kicking.

                                            I'm out.
