Smashing pics Chris, might use one for a background if that’s OK with you?

Ed, I followed that link and lost 10 minutes!

Interesting Ed. Might get some Oat bran and add it to the mix.

I am reminded lately that I may be turning into my dad. He was working nights for years at the pit when I was a nipper and every night he would have Scotts Porridge Oats before going to work. On the nights when mother went to the CISWO women’s meetings, or up to my aunt’s house (actually a very close family friend, not related) I would have to make the mix at 7 pm and cook it slowly in the coal oven. At 8 I would take it out and put it in the oven top, with a knob of butter on top of the porridge. I don’t cook my Oatabix of course: just heat it in the microwave with a little honey.

I am not a “Donner” type, just plain old fashioned English cooking. We have a Rayburn oil fired cooker which is always on, and we use the bottom oven for slow cooking. A piece of beef which would normally be somewhere between bloody and tough as old boots, put in the bottom oven before 10:00am, is beautifully soft and tasty by 6:00pm. After a recent suggestion from Drs that Tamara’s Cholesterol was getting a bit high, we have now changed breakfast cereal (muesli for me and “Fruit ‘n Fibre” for Tamara) to porridge. It goes in the bottom oven in a casserole last thing at night, having been brought first to the boil with plenty of fruit, until morning. Very enjoyable. Long live the Rayburn, if the climate gods don’t stop my kerosene supplies. Les.

I’m with you Les, proper English cooking. Brisket in the slow cooker, on low all day, is delicious and makes plenty of equally delicious gravy. My SWMBO’s gravy is not as thick as my mother’s was, but stand a spoon in it and it slowly falls over: just right. Some of my mam’s gravy was more like jelly. Family joke was to pass the gravy and ask politely “One slice or two?”

SMBO’s cereal is a mix of Jordan’s cluster Muesli and Kellogs corn flakes. I have Weetabix one morning, Oatabix next breakfast. Slice or two of Hovis Seed Sensations* with a thin layer of Clover spread, big dollop of honey, which I love and which was recommended by my Gastroenterologist to combat damage done by reflux: hiatus hernia and Baretts Oesophagus, which shrinks the Oesophagus  by coating it with a layer like the lining of the stomach. Natural antibiotic, the man said.

*Bread with bits chucked in at the mix, according to my missus. I cannot stand white bread, it’s a waste of dough.

Lee that sounds like fancy lamb casserole to me.😋😄

My missus cooks a lot of stuff in the slow cooker. Steak & kidney casserole is my fave: steak (not just beef, it’s fatty) cubed, ox kidney, red onions, several dollops of Red wine. (cheap Sicilian is best) Creamed tates, Brussels, carrots, maybe a roast parsnip, broccoli. The gravy is fantastic. A chicken roasted in the bag just falls apart. Steak mince is also good, cheap meal but tastes really good if prepared right. Tonight it’s Turkey steaks in white wine sauce. I’m drooling now.😊😋

Discovered why the laptop would not accept the PIN: SWMBO confessed to forgetting that she had set up a new 6 digit PIN.

Booted my SWMBO’s laptop this morning, won’t accept her PIN. Had to use the Microsoft account password. Updated the same KB’s as mine, but added lots of driver updates. Nice.

Fifties to Eighties westerns got like that, same plot, same desperate situations, same Happy Endings. (Cow) boy finds girl, loses girl to Bad Guy, some gunfights, regains girl. Chuck in a few Indians Native Americans for added danger.

Come to think of it, Tom Cruise’s “Missions” are a lot samey. Although casting him (5’7″) as Jack Reacher (6’5″, built like the proverbial outhouse) was ludicrous. That was when fiction became fantasy.

Seals are all pupped now Mark, record numbers this year again at Donna Nook.   http://tinyurl.com/w93gno3

Have you been to Cleethorpes? Missus and I go there a lot, if you have kids the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway is a good trip, we used to take the grandkids but the youngest is now 14 and has other stuff to do. The Pier has great fish & chips, all Grimsby fish as fresh as can be. But there is an even better place in the town, up on St. Peter’s Way: the Ocean Fish Restaurant.

The Armed Forces Weekend at Cleethorpes is a great day out: usually a flypast by the BBMF and lots of other aircraft, with a Para display. Place gets packed, so if you decide to go, ask me nearer the time and I will tell you where to park.

Steve I agree I go fishing down that stretch quite a bit park the car up come back its full of shit I think all the holiday parks down that stretch have played a big part in the amount of gulls that are present. Bob we normally go over to Skeggy for a long weekend at least once a year I have seen the extent of the wind farms part of the North Wale coastline is pretty much the same with more and more being erected as Steve probably sees everyday.

Have you been down to Gibraltar Point while in Skeg Mark? There is also the North Sea Observatory at Chapel St. Leonards.

Haven’t seen it but will get around to it. What is currently bugging me on TV is the dumb, excessively loud music that the BBC plays over dramas. It is ruining the credits and some passages in the otherwise excellent “Silent Witness”. I have used the BBC online complaints form to have a mild rant. I received a sniffy reply from some ass-polishing Suit, to the effect that it was the Producer’s choice and it ‘enhances the drama’. *No it doesn’t you muppet, SW is good enough dramatically anyway. If a story needs dumb, out of context squealing music to ‘enhance it’ then it is not good enough anyway.*

                            End of Rant.

**Those are the exact words I used in my reply. No response: have I upset them?

Updated this desktop and will update SWMBO’s asap. Also came with 2 other updates:

                              .net framework 3.5 & 4.8 (KB4532938)

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for January 2020 (KB890830)

No problems so far. After my last post regarding SWMBO’s laptop, I think I will carry out a fresh install of 10 on this desktop. After backup of course.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I understand what you say about leaving it alone Dave but SWMBO has a Plan (OMG) which will require more GB, and the Lenovo Backup has a total of almost 14 GB spare. So I will take Ed‘s advice about a backup. actually wanted to install another SSD in the DVD drawer, she has never used it and I have a USB DVD RW if needed. No, said milady.

Thanks Mark, I can use Easeus to remove the partition, not going into cmd if I can help it, but that’s good advice too.

Graham, thanks for the useful info, I understand things better now.

Spent last night switching SWMBO’s Laptop to 10, some of today sorting it out. That’s 3 I’ve done now: my desktop, son’s desktop and Gert’s Lenovo B50-80, 128GB SSD, which naturally is giving me grief. 🙄😏🤐 I am now trying to remove Windows.old and the Lenovo Recovery partition(s) and it will not let me. Gone to Properties – Permissions, tried to get access there. Downloaded Aomi and had a look. I found 4 Partitions:

                                    *:SYSTEM-DRV   Capacity: 200.00 MB     Free Space:165.4MB

                                    C:\Windows7-OS  Capacity:106.21GB        Free Space:48.76GB

                                    *:   Capacity: 599.00MB                                 Free Space: 87.94MB

                                    *:PBR_DRV            Capacity:12.25GB          Free Space:1.32GB

I cannot work out which are Recovery partitions. I suspect that the first one listed above is MBR? Second, although it says Windows 7, I think must be the Win 10 C Drive. Could the 3rd and 4th be Recovery and Windows.old?

I have tried to remove the Lenovo carp from the laptop, but it will not allow that. I want to remove the Recovery partition with Easeus, which will delete partitions, and also junk the Lenovo stuff. Any ideas? Won’t be back until tomorrow, just about to watch Spurs get thrashed by Middlesborough.

                                    Thanks for any input.

One day last summer my Gert and I went to Skeg for a 60’s show. Of course loud noise at those venues is necessary to allow oldphart ears to actually hear the music! But before that concert, we had a meal in town and walked back past a local pub with live music. There was an Elvis impersonator crucifying some of the King’s music, live on an outside stage. Across the road was a cafe with a few middle aged bikers. Two of the biggest old bikers walked across when the ‘singer’ asked for requests; “Stop performing!”   –   “Why should I?”   —   “Because you don’t look like him, you don’t sound like him, you can’t bloody sing and you are annoying me and my mates. Added to which your audience is leaving, which means the pub is losing money! Now P*** off before I get really annoyed!”

                                        The Impersonator left the building.

Well I started something here! Pro and Cons regarding wind farms, interesting debate.

Ed your comment regarding improved reliability proves that whatever humans invent, manufacture and put into use, certainly will be improved, usually on grounds of unit cost. BL that’s why other designs do not make it into production: when something is found to work and is put into high volumes of production, the companies involved become wealthy by producing and installing the product. There is no further incentive for R&D, especially when shareholders are taken into account. Incidentally, IMO the view of the North Sea is improved by the mass of turbines, breaking up what is just usually a flat seascape. It has also brought thousands of jobs into an area of poor employment, prevented any more onshore turbines being built and allowed much larger, more powerful and productive offshore turbines to be deployed. Onshore turbines are the REAL view spoilers and both Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire County Councils fought to stop them.

Mark this is what you refer to I believe:   http://tinyurl.com/y4ryckz7

Research from the London School of Economics (LSE) estimated in 2014 that by 2020 there could be anywhere between 9,600 and 106,000 bird deaths a year from wind energy in the UK – in other words, we’re not sure. ” (my bolding)

They are “not sure” with a huge discrepancy in their estimate, which means a proper study has not been carried out.

                                            Think about bird vision: http://tinyurl.com/ychkshol

Not only is a bird’s eyesight far superior to ours, it is stereoscopic, sees through a very wide angle and picks up fast movement very, very quickly. Spotting a rotating object is no problem, especially for seagulls that can spot potential food from high altitude, whether that is a shoal of fish under the waves, or you eating your chips. We might be helping them evolve actually: any bird that might be struck by a blade and killed, will not pass on its genes! Incidentally, around Lincolnshire beaches we have the quietest seagulls anywhere, rarely do they vocalise, unlike at most resorts, where the racket gets annoying. And here they don’t steal your chips! Every day at about 4 pm, hundreds fly from the beaches inland, bound for where I do not know, over our village, flying west. There was a huge field over the road from our bungalows where they used to stop and feed from good grassland, but a new development of “executive homes” has been built there. The gulls are confused, they circle now for at least 20 minutes before flying on. I love to see them, a real spectacle there are so many. They fly back before dawn.

I took some photos on Sunday from a spot between Chapel St. Leonards North Sea Observatory and Skegness, which may give you some idea of the extent of the current windfarm, which will eventually be twice as big.

The second photo is a continuation of the first. A bit washed-out, it was a sunny day with glare of the sea.
